A passing traveler through the heavens
Chapter 36 The Flying Tigers are Established
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the white gauze curtains into the spacious and luxurious bedroom of the Presidential Suite at The Peninsula Hong Kong.
Ji Lin slowly woke up. He opened his eyes and was greeted by a scene of luxury and comfort. The scene of sleeping together in the same bed last night seemed to be still vivid in his mind, which made him smile slightly.
Ji Lin sat up from the soft bed, stretched, and then slowly walked to the huge floor-to-ceiling window. He stood quietly, gazing at the magnificent view outside the window—the shimmering Victoria Harbour stretched out before him.
A gentle sea breeze carried a slightly salty taste, and the bustling scene before him filled him with an indescribable sense of satisfaction.
After washing up, Ji Lin tidied his clothes and said goodbye to Rose and the other two.
Afterwards, he set off on his journey to the Yau Tsim Mong Regional Headquarters to report on his work.
When he arrived at the Yau Tsim Mong Regional Police Station, he saw Chan Ka-kui, Lee Ying and Sung Chi-kit already waiting in front of the gate.
They stood ramrod straight, their expressions slightly tense, but their excitement was palpable.
Ji Lin walked towards them with a smile. After the four greeted each other, they entered the police station building together.
Soon, they arrived at Ji Lin's office in Yau Tsim Mong.
The office is spacious and bright, with a simple and elegant layout. Various documents and office supplies are neatly arranged on the desk.
Ji Lin calmly walked to the desk, gently placed the three documents he was carrying on the table, and then gestured for Chen Jiaju and the other two to pick them up and take a look.
Chen Jiaju eagerly grabbed a document and began flipping through it quickly. As he read, his expression grew increasingly astonished, until finally he couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow! This...this is simply unbelievable!"
In contrast, although Li Ying and Song Zijie did not outwardly lose their composure like Chen Jiaju, their slightly trembling hands and gleaming eyes revealed that they were equally excited.
After the three of them had carefully read the documents in their hands, Ji Lin slowly asked, "Well? Have you finished reading these three documents? Tell me what you're thinking and where you all want to go?"
A brief silence fell over the office.
Song Zijie took a deep breath and broke the silence, saying, "Brother Lin, do you know? The reason I have achieved what I have today is entirely due to your careful guidance and support all along."
"To be honest, I am not interested in being transferred to another region to serve as a detective, because I would rather stay by your side and serve you, after all, I know my own abilities are limited."
"I'm quite adept at following orders and carrying out tasks; but when it comes to managing a region or something similar, I really lack confidence!"
Ji Lin nodded slightly, indicating that he understood Song Zijie's idea.
Then, he slowly turned his gaze to Chen Jiaju and Li Ying, and asked softly, "So, what are your plans?"
Chen Jiaju and Li Ying exchanged a glance, and then almost simultaneously shouted, "Brother Lin, we'll follow your orders!"
Hearing this, Ji Lin nodded in satisfaction, and then said methodically, "Alright then, Li Ying, I have decided to appoint you as a detective at the Yau Ma Tei Police Station."
“That’s our foundation. I have complete confidence in entrusting it to you. With your maturity and composure, I’m sure you can keep things in order.”
Li Ying nodded solemnly and replied, "Please rest assured, Brother Lin, I will certainly live up to your expectations!"
Ji Lin smiled slightly, then looked at Chen Jiaju and continued, "As for Chen Jiaju, you should go to Tsim Sha Tsui. That place has always been a hotbed of smuggling, drug trafficking, and triad activities. It's a dangerous and complicated place."
"But that's precisely why we need a valiant general like you to take charge."
After giving his instructions, Ji Lin put the document for the Mong Kok detective position into the drawer.
After carefully signing their names, Chen Jiaju and Li Ying did not linger and turned to leave. Their figures disappeared at the door, leaving behind a silence.
As for Song Zijie, Ji Lin specially arranged for him to serve as his secretary in the Yau Tsim Mong District.
Ji Lin instructed Song Zijie to retrieve a list of all personnel within the Yau Tsim Mong district. He wanted to study it carefully to see if he could discover any outstanding talents among them.
After all, his current resources are still somewhat limited.
Not long after, Song Zijie returned to the office with a thick stack of personnel lists and handed them to Ji Lin. Ji Lin took the lists and began to flip through them page by page.
It must be said that Yau Tsim Mong truly lives up to its reputation as a major district. Not only does it have a large population, but it also boasts many outstanding individuals who will become famous in the future.
The list prominently featured the names of plainclothes police officers: Cai Yuanqi, the former Commissioner of Police in the movie "Cold War"; Li Shutang, the father of Li Wenbin in "Cold War"; and Zhuo Jingquan.
In addition, Ji Lin also saw a familiar name - patrol officer Leung Siu-tong, the future Laughing Gor.
Just as Ji Lin was pondering how to make these people his trusted team, there was a sudden knock on the office door.
Immediately afterward, Song Zijie walked in, his expression somewhat grave, and said, "Brother Lin, the foreign executives are waiting for you in the conference room."
Upon hearing this, Ji Lin frowned slightly, wondering to himself why the foreigner wanted to see him.
When Ji Lin stepped into the conference room, he immediately saw the current Commissioner of Police and two other deputy commissioners sitting at the conference table.
Upon seeing this scene, Ji Lin couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity and amusement, finding the scene quite intriguing.
After Ji Lin was settled in his seat, the foreign section chief broke the silence and asked him directly and seriously about the entire jewelry robbery.
As time passed, Ji Lin gradually understood the purpose of these foreigners' visit.
It turns out that after the jewelry robbery was over, Ji Lin had submitted a detailed case report to his superiors.
This report not only fully records the details of the case, but more importantly, Ji Lin put forward a highly forward-looking suggestion.
Given the frequent threat of terrorist attacks on Hong Kong Island, a new police force should be established, and efforts should be made to create a special forces unit that is fully subordinate to the Hong Kong Island Police Department, possesses high professional qualifications and strong combat capabilities.
That's right! It was the later famous "Flying Tigers".
Ji Lin initially didn't expect the foreigners to grant his request, since setting up a new police force would mean spending a considerable amount of money to maintain its operation.
For those foreigners who value money more than life itself, this is practically the same as taking their lives.
However, something unexpected happened. The foreign executives were so farsighted, forward-thinking, and insightful that they actually approved Ji Lin's request.
During the subsequent conversation, Ji Lin went to great lengths to explain to the other party the specific construction plan and future plans for this special forces unit.
This special forces unit, designated as the Special Duties Company, will be directly under the unified command and dispatch of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, and will be under the overall management of an experienced and capable superintendent.
The headquarters of the Special Task Force is divided into three different groups: the administrative group, the training and support group, and the most critical operations group.
The action group was further subdivided into several specialized combat units, including an attack team (which was further divided into two squads, A and B), a sniper team, and a water attack team.
It is worth mentioning that this special mission company has extremely strict standards and requirements when recruiting members.
It will only select elite personnel from within the existing police force and will never conduct open recruitment activities to the general public.
Moreover, once successfully selected as a member of the Special Missions Company, one must remain highly vigilant at all times, ready to be deployed around the clock to deal with any possible emergencies.
Then, the foreign chief asked slowly in his not-so-standard Chinese, "So, Detective Ji, what should this special mission unit be called?"
Ji Lin straightened up slightly and then answered in a steady and powerful voice: "Special Duties Unit, abbreviated as SDU."
"However, I also gave it a very catchy and impressive nickname—'Flying Tigers'!"
