Magical Journey: The Other Shore Blooms on the Other Shore
Interlude of Chapter 34: The Sick Witch
"You seem to be in very poor condition." Qin closed the book.
The broom was wobbling, as if it were a little drunk.
This wasn't the style a witch like Elena would drive. In the past, she always drove her broom very smoothly, even if the speed was slower because of carrying an extra person, it never felt like riding a horse.
"Ugh..." Elena felt her head getting hot.
I had this idea as early as yesterday. I thought my body's resistance would hold out, so I was a little greedy and didn't go to the pharmacy to save money on medicine.
It seems my condition worsened this morning.
With her groggy mind, Elena tried hard to recall when she had contracted the virus. She figured it must have been because she had gotten caught in the rain a few days earlier and hadn't made it to the hotel in time to dry off.
But Qin, who was also soaked in the rain, acted as if nothing had happened.
“Fly one mile east, and you’ll find a small town,” Qin said.
"I……"
“You won’t be able to fly to the next country in this condition,” Qin insisted.
Elena tacitly agreed with Qin's suggestion and turned her broom around, flying towards the town Qin had mentioned.
What should have been a journey of less than a minute took Elena a full ten minutes to fly. Upon arriving at the sparsely populated town, Elena wearily put away her broom, nearly collapsing headfirst.
This small town should be a place where travelers gather and stay.
Or it could be a market town established by some wanderers who fled the kingdom.
In any case, the appearance of this small town has been a lifesaver for Elena, and all she wants now is to get a good night's sleep.
She had initially been concerned about the hotel's price, but without even looking at the money, she paid it off and then collapsed heavily onto the soft bed, soon starting to snore.
But before falling asleep... she took out a broom, waved her wand to cast a spell, and then cleared her mind to sleep.
Then, to Qin's slightly surprised gaze, another girl appeared in the room. A girl who looked very much like Elena, except that her hair was peach-colored.
This girl seemed to have appeared out of thin air.
"Hello, Lady Qin," she said politely, placing her hand over her chest.
"No need to call me sir... Who are you?"
"Well... Lady Elena didn't give me a name, so just call me Miss Broom for now," Miss Broom laughed. "Just as you guessed, I am Lady Elena's broom~"
The magic of turning objects into people...
Qin immediately understood the magic that Elena had cast before going to sleep.
This was truly the first time he had ever witnessed such magic.
Indeed, every witch has her own unique qualities.
"Since this is our first meeting, we should have had a proper chat, but Lady Elena needs me to buy medicine, so I must excuse myself for now," said Miss Broom.
"Don't call me sir."
"Goodbye, Lady Qin..."
Does this broom not understand human speech?
So objects really do have feelings? That's amazing magic...
After Miss Broom left, Jean continued to read to pass the time. Now that Elena was collapsed here, he couldn't leave the house.
Even if you ask him to go out, he doesn't know what medicine to buy—in this respect, he's more of an idiot than an idiot.
Even witches get sick; that's to be expected. After all, magic is never omnipotent, and witches are simply among those whose magic is slightly more advanced.
But Qin has never been sick since she can remember.
Or to put it more accurately, he was always sick, his whole body constantly cycling between illness and regeneration.
Qin had no idea what this meant, but he didn't care at all.
As time slowly passed, afternoon arrived. Miss Broom's trip to buy medicine didn't seem to be going so smoothly; she hadn't returned yet.
That's true. After all, this is just a rather small town, and it's not easy to buy the right medicine here. If you're unlucky, you might not even find any.
Elena slowly woke up before Miss Broom returned.
After all, I've already slept for half the day.
"Qin..."
"What is it?" Qin knew, of course, that Elena was awake, even though he was mostly focused on his book.
"water……"
Qin neatly closed the book, then took out a bottle of drinking water from her travel bag and handed it to Elena, a distance that Elena could easily reach with a simple stretch of her arm.
"Hey me..."
ha?
Are you out of your mind or have you had a fever?
Qin looked at Elena's serious face with some confusion.
Any normal man would probably feel his heart flutter and lose control if he saw such a lovely girl with a flushed face (from a fever) looking at him so pitifully.
Some people might even have already decided what to name their future children.
But Qin is clearly not a normal person.
He just thought Elena was acting strangely.
As for a heartbeat? What is that?
Let's just assume she's lost her mind. Qin opened the bottle of drinking water, lifted the back of Elena's head, and carefully poured water into her mouth. Elena, like a newborn fawn, sipped this source of life.
"Am I going to die?" After drinking the water, Elena seemed to have regained some of her energy.
"No, it's just a cold," Qin said expressionlessly.
"I feel terrible... my illness is incurable..."
"It's just a cold..." Qin retorted.
"I'm still so young... I never thought I would... sob sob..."
Has she really lost her mind?
Qin couldn't understand Elena anymore. The usual Elena was sharp-tongued and narcissistic, completely different from the Elena who was now so insecure; it was as if she had a completely different personality.
If the common cold could kill people, humanity would have gone extinct long ago.
Qin stopped paying attention to Elena's complaints; he didn't quite understand how to properly care for a patient. He'd just do whatever she asked of him for the time being.
After all, they had been traveling together for a long time, and he knew how to help each other out.
"Don't go... Qin, stay with me..."
what……
Just as Qin was about to go back to her book, Elena called her back.
"So, what am I doing here with you?" Qin moved a stool over and sat down next to Elena's bed.
"Tell me a story..." Elena's coquettish manner was just like a child's. Qin believed that if Elena were to truly wake up and remember what she looked like now, she would definitely want to find a hole to crawl into.
"What would you like to hear?" Qin asked. "If there are no requests, I'll tell you a fairy tale."
After all, he spent his dark childhood listening to fairy tales told by his teacher, Alice.
"No, no... I'm tired of fairy tales. Tell me your story instead."
"My story?" Qin thought about the question seriously. Was there any need to tell her story, which was utterly devoid of any substance?
"Uh-huh."
Looking into Elena's hopeful eyes, Qin sighed softly and then casually recounted his travel experiences after leaving his hometown and arriving in the snowy world beyond.
It seems... someone else asked me to tell a story before.
"I feel like I've heard that name somewhere before," Elena mumbled, still half-asleep.
But her brain was completely shut down; she listened to the piano music and then fell asleep again.
Shortly after Elena was put to sleep like a child, Miss Broom pushed open the door and brought back bags of medicine jars, and it seemed she had also brought back a lot of bread.
She gently approached Elena and touched her forehead with the back of her hand while Elena was fast asleep.
"It seems the fever has subsided a bit; it's not too serious," Miss Broom said. "Lady Elena should have woken up by now."
There was only Qin in the room, so Miss Broom was obviously talking to Qin.
“It doesn’t feel like it’s Elena who’s awake,” Jean replied.
“That’s right, Elena seems like a completely different person when she’s sick,” Miss Broom said. “This isn’t the first time I’ve taken care of her like this.”
The zither did not respond.
He silently continued turning the pages of the book.
"Thank you for taking care of Lady Elena." Miss Broom knew that Jean preferred silence; after all, even in her non-human form, as a broom, she had always witnessed the outside world.
"It's ok."
"actually……"
Qin had just finished reading the textbook about magical items when she closed the book and met the gaze of the person she was looking at with her broom.
"It's nothing." Miss Broom didn't say anything more.
She originally wanted to say that Lady Elena was actually a child who was very afraid of being alone, and that she was very grateful for his constant companionship... as well as for the help that Magic Cloud had given her back then.
But then I thought of Qin's nonchalant personality.
There's no need to say more about these things.
……
"Please forget what happened when I was sick." Elena, who had just recovered from her illness, said solemnly to Qin. Those embarrassing secrets were originally only known to Broom, her close friend, but now there was another one.
Fran... Saya... No one knew that Elena's other side was actually a spoiled child.
This undoubtedly adds another layer of complexity to her already tarnished past.
"You said you were about to die?" Qin said.
“Yes, please forget about it,” Elena said earnestly.
The thought of those words made her want to erase Qin's memories, but even if she did know such magic, it wouldn't work on Qin at all.
"And then there's the part where you're given medicine by the broom and you're screaming like a banshee?" Qin continued.
"You did that on purpose, didn't you? How can it sound so awful, like a ghost wailing?" Elena said angrily.
"besides……"
"Shut up!" Irena thought Qin was doing it on purpose, whether she was or not. But she knew she was being unreasonable and had no point, so she gave up.
"My lords..." Miss Broom originally wanted to come over and mediate the fight, but seeing Elena's expression, she knew that Elena wasn't really angry at all.
"They seem to get along quite well." Just as Miss Broom was thinking this, Elena turned her back into a broom.
“Promise me you won’t tell anyone about this,” Elena said.
"Oh."
