Return to before death

Chapter 64 Fainting

For some reason, he felt that the silence was like a weight pressing on his heart, making it hard for him to breathe.

"It's nothing much. It's all because of Zhengqing. I can't rest easy until he's cleared of suspicion." Yan Ran said this with her eyes downcast, but her face remained calm.

But in Zong Zhengjing's eyes, she was just a wife who worried about her husband, and his heart couldn't help but ache.

Even so, she still can't let go of Zong Zhengqing, right?

In her eyes, that person was her husband, and as for him, he was just her brother-in-law, nothing more.

Zongzheng Jing took a deep breath, driving away the strange emotions in his heart.

"Just ask me anything, I'll tell you what I know." If he continued acting like this in front of him, he was afraid he wouldn't be able to control himself...

However, Zong Zhengjing would never say the latter part. From the moment he agreed, there was no turning back. Even if he expressed his feelings for Yan Ran, he would not receive a response, given that Yan Ran had no affection for him.

Although that's what he said, Yan Ran knew there were some important things he would never tell her.

"I heard that Zhang Xinyi was pushed out by a doctor before the accident, and she never came back." Yan Ran calmly recounted what she knew, and also revealed what she wanted to know.

It's simply a matter of who the doctor was, whether the doctor made a mistake in the diagnosis or did it intentionally, but it's definitely not a case of ineffective treatment.

He was conscious and able to struggle, so he was clearly not a patient who was about to die and therefore did not require resuscitation.

“The doctor who last came into contact with the patient…” Zong Zhengjing murmured, as if lost in thought.

Yan Ran wasn't in a hurry and sat there waiting for his answer.

"There are so many patients, I can't remember right now. Let me check." Zong Zhengjing frowned, unable to recall who the doctor who had pushed Zhang Xinyi away was for a long time.

He suddenly got up and walked towards the wardrobe next to him, which was full of uniform white lab coats, except that there were many documents piled on top of the wardrobe.

Yan Ran didn't make a sound to disturb Zong Zhengjing; the only sound in the office was the rustling of papers.

"Found it." Zongzheng Jing's joyful voice came through. "The doctor who last came into contact with the patient that day... the one who just walked out. However, the patient's condition suddenly worsened and he died while receiving the injection, despite all efforts to save him."

The development of pharmaceuticals has been particularly rapid in recent years. Many drugs, when injected once, are comparable to many other medications, and the treatment time has been greatly shortened.

Conversely, the price of the medicine is very high, and not everyone can afford it.

Judging from Zhang Xinyi's husband's clothing, he is not someone who can afford the medication treatment.

Furthermore, Zhang Xinyi's hospitalization period was not just a day or two, and she must have used a lot of medications. So how did she manage to stay in the hospital without being kicked out?

Yan Ran glanced at Zong Zhengjing without showing any emotion. She didn't believe that this person would be so kind as to give medicine to someone who couldn't afford treatment.

As for Zong Zhengqing, there's no need to even think about it. How could someone like him, who would give up anything for profit, possibly be so kind?

The more she thought about it, the more suspicious she felt there were.

"Did the patient exhibit any unusual behavior before this?" Yan Ran asked, pursing her lips.

Zongzheng closed the document, looking at the weariness in Yan Ran's eyes, a fleeting pity in his own.

"You'd have to ask the doctor who treated the patient, since hospitals don't keep records of everything."

Yan Ran nodded slightly, her eyes lowered, her long eyelashes obscuring her expression, making it impossible to know what she was thinking.

After a long while, she raised her eyes and looked at Zong Zhengjing, "Could you call him over and ask him some questions?"

Zong Zhengjing shook his head slightly and said with a wry smile, "With so many patients in the hospital every day, who can remember them so clearly? Even if we call them over, it won't help."

If he could, he would have called the person over before Yan Ran and let her ask him whatever she wanted. But he was a doctor, and even with his good memory, he couldn't remember what medicine he had given a patient a week ago, let alone anything from even earlier.

Unless it's a major surgery, he can still vaguely remember some things.

However, Zhang Xinyi's injection was clearly just a routine injection that didn't even qualify as a minor surgery.

Yan Ran's heart sank. She had nothing to show for it except who had injected Zhang Xinyi with the drug.

Are we going to lose our hard-won clues here again?

Her heart began to race, a deep sense of resentment spreading through her.

She refused to give in like that!

"In that case, I'll head back now. If you find anything, be sure to tell me immediately." She remained calm, politely said this, and then got up and walked out.

Since she didn't get what she wanted, there was no need for her to stay here. She had nothing to say to Zongzheng Jing.

As for her next sentence, it was obviously just talk. Even if Zong Zhengjing had discovered something, he would not tell her, since it directly involved the Zong family.

He's a member of the clan too; how could he possibly help an outsider against his own people?

That's right, Yan Ran is now an outsider. Once this marriage is dissolved, she will have no further connection with the Zong family.

Zongzheng Jing opened his mouth, trying to say something to make her stay, but in the end he could only manage one word, "Okay."

Yan Ran nodded slightly, and without pausing, walked towards the door.

He watched Yan Ran's figure gradually disappear into the distance, his face dark, his hands clenched tightly, his nails digging deep into his flesh, a stark contrast to his demeanor just moments before.

After about three or four minutes, he suddenly let go of his hand and slumped into the chair as if he had lost all his strength.

His expression returned to normal, and he picked up the phone on the table, saying in a serious tone, "Come here."

As Yan Ran walked out of the hospital, she was at a loss as to where to go next. Looking at the bustling street, she felt confused.

She came here to investigate Zhang Xinyi's case, and her purpose was simply because Zhang Xinyi's case involved the Zong family; otherwise, she wouldn't have bothered to get involved out of boredom.

But now all the clues have been cut off, Zhang Xinyi's body has been destroyed, and they finally found Ye Ting and learned that she was holding something crucial.

But it was like a flash in the pan; the physical evidence proving his death disappeared. As long as Zong Zhengqing stubbornly refused to admit it, no one could do anything about it. He was just a suspect, not a criminal.

For some reason, Yan Ran felt that this matter must be related to Zong Zhengqing. Logically speaking, shouldn't she believe him?

She knew in her heart that her feelings for him were absolutely genuine, otherwise why would her heart be aching so much?

Suddenly, a wave of dizziness washed over her, her vision went black, and she uncontrollably fell to the ground.

"Dye it!"

This scene was witnessed by Zong Zhengqing, who was idly making an inspection of the hospital. He quickly reached out, picked up Yan Ran, and walked into the hospital.

Please, please don't let anything happen.
