Return to before death

Chapter 58 Serious Injury

Yan Ran was in a slightly better position, but Sheng Xuanling, who was on top of her, was not having such an easy time.

He let out a muffled groan, and warm liquid dripped slowly down her neck.

But he still held her tightly, not wanting her to get hurt in the slightest.

His name was always on her lips, and several times she wanted to say it, but she swallowed it back down.

Isn't he supposed to be indifferent to everyone?

Is he willing to sacrifice anyone for his own benefit?

He's such a risk-averse person, why... why did he save her...?

Tears welled up in her eyes, and she bit her finger hard to keep herself from making a sound.

At this moment, Sheng Xuanling's image in her heart had undergone a complete transformation.

After a long while, the surroundings quieted down, and the only sounds in the world were her suppressed sobs and Sheng Xuanling's panting.

"Sheng Xuanling".

Yan Ran secretly wiped away her tears and couldn't help but speak. Her voice was a little hoarse, obviously because she had just cried.

"Sheng Xuanling, are you... alright...?"

How could she be alright? Even while he was protecting her in his arms, she still suffered injuries of varying degrees. And what about him outside...?

She didn't dare to think about it.

"Sheng Xuanling, I'm sorry."

She dared not look at his expression, nor even move, for fear that any movement would aggravate his wound.

"You don't need to apologize to me, you did nothing wrong." After a long while, Sheng Xuanling finally spoke to her, but she couldn't help coughing heavily a few times, adding another layer of blood to the almost dried blood on her neck.

The more he acted this way, the more guilty Yan Ran felt.

Sheng Xuanling could have easily dodged it himself, but he was willing to endure such great harm in order to protect her.

"Why?" she couldn't help but ask, "Why did you save me?"

Why? Sheng Xuanling questioned himself in his heart. He didn't know why either. When he realized there was danger, he instinctively tackled her and held her tightly. He didn't know why he did it.

"You didn't have to care about me, why did you have to save me?" Yan Ran murmured softly, as if speaking to herself.

Her bright eyes gradually lost their sparkle; she was now confused about which one was the real Sheng Xuanling.

He seemed indifferent to everyone, with a blank expression.

The information that the woman who loved him to the core risked her life to obtain, he didn't care at all about such intense feelings.

It's still the same guy who likes to tease her, and who would rather get hurt himself than not protect her.

Regardless of which one it is, Yan Ran can no longer hate him.

"Can you get up now? I'll take you to the hospital, otherwise we'll bleed to death here sooner or later, and I don't want to die with you." Her tone became relaxed, and she casually uttered a teasing remark.

She just wanted to lighten the mood, instead of weighing on her heart and making it hard for her to breathe.

"If I could move, do you think I'd be happy to lie on top of you?" Sheng Xuanling chuckled, his fingers twitching slightly. "If this continues, I think we really will die together."

"You'll die first, your injuries are more serious than mine." Yan Ran carefully crawled out of his arms, but still couldn't help aggravating his wounds.

When she saw the wound on his back, even though she was mentally prepared, she couldn't help but gasp.

How did he manage to put up with it?

Large chunks of flesh were turned outwards, and blood was still gushing out. Some fragments that had been ejected from the explosion were even embedded directly into the flesh on his back, which made Yan Ran feel a pang of heartache.

Aside from that muffled groan, he made no other sound. She couldn't imagine what it would be like if those wounds were on her...

Yan Ran was at a loss for what to do. Every time she touched him, he was met with intense pain.

"What are you still standing there like an idiot for? Do you really want me to die here? Even if you do, I don't. Don't forget I saved you." Sheng Xuanling reminded the woman in front of him when she didn't move for a long time.

Originally, Yan Ran was filled with gratitude, but it all vanished with a single sentence from him.

Before she could react, the sound of an ambulance could be heard in the distance, clearly indicating that someone had called for an ambulance as soon as the explosion stopped.

And she was here with Sheng Xuanling and Qin Zhiyuan. She had been with Sheng Xuanling the whole time, so the only one who could have called an ambulance was Qin Zhiyuan.

Where did he go? Yan Ran searched her surroundings, but couldn't find Qin Zhiyuan anywhere. She didn't even miss a single inch of the grass where he had been.

Could it be that he wasn't here, or that he escaped the blast radius before them?

Yan Ran carefully helped Sheng Xuanling up in the end. Although his tone was particularly irritating, it was undeniable that he had saved him.

She, Yan Ran, owes him a life.

"Quick, over here, there are two more living people over here." The voice grew louder as it approached, and several doctors in white coats finally appeared in front of her.

She carefully helped Sheng Xuanling up, afraid that the doctors might hurt him.

"Miss, are there any other people around or inside this building?" A man who was clearly the leader of the group of doctors walked up to Yan Ran and bowed politely to her.

"If there's no one inside, then there's no one outside." Only the three of them escaped at the time, and she couldn't be sure if there were any other people in the building.

However, she knew that everyone in that building was definitely going to die.

When the doctor's gaze fell on that building, it was filled with pity. After all, they were just ordinary doctors, and even if they knew there were people inside, there was nothing they could do.

We can only pray that no one is inside.

Yan Ran ignored them and helped Sheng Xuanling slowly walk towards the ambulance. A gentle breeze brushed against her wound, making her feel painful, let alone Sheng Xuanling.

Once she saw that he had been settled, she could no longer bear it. She lost her balance and fell forward, her vision went black, and she lost consciousness.

"Yan Ran."

In the darkness, she thought she heard someone calling her name.

"Yan Ran."

The voice sounded so familiar, but why couldn't she remember whose it was?

"Yan Ran."

Isn't that Sheng Xuanling's voice? Sheng Xuanling! I wonder how his injuries are now.

Yan Ran suddenly opened her eyes, and the pungent smell of disinfectant hit her face. The sudden light made her reach out to shield her eyes, but it pulled at the wound on her arm.

"Hiss!" She gasped. She hadn't felt much pain at the time, but now, with that sudden ripping, the feeling of flesh being forcefully torn off made her almost cry out.

"You're quite something, someone whose injuries are far less severe than mine, yet you woke up later than me." The hoarse voice seemed to come from nowhere, making it impossible for Yan Ran to pinpoint its source, but she was certain it was Sheng Xuanling's voice.

He was so weak that even speaking was difficult for him? Then why did he keep calling her name?
