I froze, and the food on my chopsticks fell back into the bowl.

"Why is she hospitalized? Did she have a fever again after going home yesterday?" I started to blame myself. I should have insisted that she take her medicine again this morning.

Secretary Li's voice rang out at the opportune moment.

"There was a car accident. A car suddenly appeared out of nowhere and crashed directly into Mr. Jiang's car. Fortunately, the car was not going fast, and Mr. Jiang is not in any danger."

"Did they just rush out like that?" I pressed, a vague sense of unease creeping into my heart.

This scene looks so familiar. There have been so many car accidents lately—Grandpa Jiang, Gu Mengmeng, and me. Thinking of all this, I instantly became alert.

Secretary Li's expression became even more serious. "Yes, President Jiang has already sent people to investigate, and it seems that this was not an accident. It will take some time to find out who did it."

A deliberately staged car accident! This thought terrified me. I never imagined that someone would dare to harm Jiang Yuwei.

At the same time, I noticed that Secretary Li's gaze was somewhat subtle, as if she had something left unsaid.

Just as I was about to ask, my uncle put down his chopsticks and interrupted us coldly, "I'm going back to my study to handle some work. Ye Qiu, you should eat more."

I nodded, but my heart was filled with mixed feelings. Although my uncle said he didn't mind, I could sense his inner struggle and dissatisfaction with Jiang Yuwei.

He glanced coldly at the gift that Secretary Li had brought, his gaze filled with displeasure, as if he were looking at Jiang Yuwei.

Zhang Yan, who was standing to the side, said bluntly, "Mr. Bai doesn't seem happy."

The uncle did not respond, but silently left the table, leaning on his cane.

The housekeeper looked at me with a faint smile on her face. "It's already good that the master didn't get angry. Yesterday, when the master saw President Jiang coming downstairs, he picked up his cane and was about to go up and teach President Jiang a lesson. He even told me to call the police."

"I explained it to my husband, and he calmed down."

I didn't need to think twice to guess what the housekeeper meant by "explanation." He probably meant that I brought Jiang Yuwei in, and she didn't sneak in on her own. That's why my uncle didn't pursue the matter further.

Secretary Li then looked at me and said, "Sir, would you like to come with me to see President Jiang? She has a head injury and is still working non-stop. She is not eating properly and her stomach is also a little upset."

“I tried to persuade Ms. Jiang, but she wouldn’t listen. If you go, the results will definitely be better than if I did.”

I was slightly taken aback. "Is she seriously injured?"

I haven't decided yet whether to accept Jiang Yuwei, so I don't really want her to know that I care about her. But hearing the news that she was injured, I couldn't help but feel worried.

Upon hearing this, Secretary Li frowned deeply. "It's very serious. He has a concussion and a leg injury, so he can't even walk. He's been sitting on the bed dealing with company matters. It's heartbreaking to see him like this."

That's serious! My heart tightened, and I immediately decided to go visit her.

"I'm full, let's go now."

As I spoke, I changed my shoes, preparing to leave.

On the way, my heart was in my throat, and I couldn't imagine how badly Jiang Yuwei was injured.

As soon as they reached the ward door, Secretary Li stopped. "Sir, please go in first. I suddenly woke up and I need to get some medicine for Mr. Jiang!"

Without thinking much, I pushed open the door and went inside.

However, the scene before me stunned me. Jiang Yuwei was sitting at a table nearby, which was covered with documents. She looked completely unharmed and showed no signs of injury.

When Jiang Yuwei saw me, her eyes lit up, and she immediately stood up.

"Ye Qiu, what brings you here?"

I glanced at Jiang Yuwei's legs instinctively; she was taking those two steps faster than I was. I suddenly felt a surge of anger.

"Are you okay?"

I scoffed, "You pretended to be injured to lure me here? Jiang Yuwei, didn't you make some promise? How long has it been and you're already going back on your word? Is this funny?"

On the way here, I was very worried about her, imagining all sorts of ways she might be injured. I even considered having Zhang Yan bring her food and take care of her every day.

Seeing her standing here perfectly fine now only fills me with anger and disappointment.

I think if they want me to come, they can just say so, but I hate this feeling of being deceived.

I turned to leave, but Jiang Yuwei stepped forward and blocked the doorway. "When did I lie to you? I just asked Secretary Li to deliver some things to you. I don't know what she said to you."

I said coldly, "Are you going to keep pretending?"

Jiang Yuwei's expression turned serious, and she stared at me with a furrowed brow. "I didn't lie to you! You're in poor health, how could I bear to lie to you and come out? If anyone's going to meet, it'll be me going to see you!"

Hearing her say that calmed me down a bit.

Thinking about it carefully, it seems to be true. Jiang Yuwei cherishes me a lot now, so she probably wouldn't deliberately scare me.

I suddenly remembered that Secretary Li had previously tricked me into coming to the hospital on her own initiative.

Lost in thought, I suddenly felt a tightness around my waist. Jiang Yuwei hugged me, her arms gently encircling my lower back, and she chuckled twice.

I frowned and looked up at her, puzzled. "What are you laughing at?"

Jiang Yuwei lowered her head slightly, her dark eyes shining. "I'm so happy. You came because you were worried about me, right?"

I was taken aback by her question, then glared at her. "You're overthinking it. I just came to check on your injury. If it's serious, I'll pop some champagne to celebrate."

Jiang Yuwei leaned down, her delicate face suddenly looming large before me. She stared intently into my eyes, and in them, I could clearly see a hint of panic; my words just now had no credibility whatsoever.

Jiang Yuwei rubbed her nose against mine and said half-jokingly, "Okay, whatever you say is right! I have a concussion, is this enough for you to celebrate?"

Perhaps because she was chilled, her voice was deep and husky, which sounded somewhat sexy.

My heart started pounding uncontrollably, and I instinctively pushed her away.

Jiang Yuwei was only holding me loosely, so I easily pushed her away. However, Jiang Yuwei lost her balance and took two steps back.

"Hiss—" Jiang Yuwei groaned softly!

I immediately went over to her anxiously, "What's wrong?"

Jiang Yuwei frowned and shook her head. "It's nothing, I just accidentally aggravated my wound. Don't worry."

I looked at her anxiously, "Where are you hurt? Let me see!"

Jiang Yuwei curled her lips into a smile. "You're clearly worried about me, why won't you admit it?"
