Chapter 7 Getting Sick from Acting Recklessly

After watching the movie, Bian Xiao and Bian He were feeling a bit down.

But it was almost lunchtime, and Lilith and Ewan led their two children slowly to the restaurant.

Bian Xiao likes Chinese food, so for lunch he prepared fried rice with eggs, corn and carrots, baked shrimp with salted egg yolk, and stir-fried lotus root cubes.

Bian He prefers Western food, such as pan-fried lamb chops and roasted vegetables, a small bowl of creamy mushroom pasta, and a piece of roasted pumpkin.

After eating and drinking his fill, Bian Xiao was completely sleepy. He leaned on Lilith's shoulder, his eyelids drooping until he finally closed them completely.

Bian Xiao was dressed in a little dress and tucked into the blanket, leaving only her little head sticking out. Her dark curly hair covered her forehead, her little face was rosy, and there was still a red mark on her left cheek from when she had just been lying on her shoulder.

Lilith gently drew the bed curtains closed and left the bedroom.

Bian Xiao gradually found it difficult to sleep comfortably.

First, he felt cold, so cold that he shivered. Bian Xiao burrowed into the blankets, but soon after, he felt hot, his body ached, he couldn't muster any strength, and his head was spinning.

It's so uncomfortable.

As soon as Lilith opened the bedroom door, she could vaguely hear Della humming.

Sensing something was wrong, she lifted the bed curtain and saw Bian Xiao's cheeks were abnormally flushed, his curly hair was wet and clung to his forehead, his eyelashes were trembling, his breathing was rapid, and his once rosy lips were dry. His little eyebrows were furrowed, and he was whimpering uncomfortably.

Lilith quickly touched her forehead; it was burning hot. She knew it was probably from falling into the water that morning, and now she likely had a fever.

Not daring to delay any longer, Lilith called Farah while going to find Dr. Hogg.

Bian Yin and Norris's car stopped at the entrance of the manor.

Farah was already standing at the door.

Norris got out of the car first, then went to help Bian Yin, who was wearing a dress and high heels.

"How is Della?" Bian Yin got out of the car and headed towards Bian Xiao's room. Wearing a full gown and sky-high heels, Bian Yin walked briskly.

“Miss Della just had a fever,” Farah said, following behind the couple.

Upon hearing this, Norrexis turned and glanced at Farah. Farah felt a chill run down her spine, but knew it was indeed her subordinate's negligence.

“Don’t worry about Aleria, go check on our little pony first,” Norrecis said, placing a hand lightly behind his wife’s waist. “You don’t need to come in, go do your own things.”

"Yes"

Farah was left standing at the door; everyone else had left. The couple walked straight through the living room into Bian Xiao's bedroom.

Hogg and Lilith were feeding Bian Xiao his medicine. A maid was preparing a clean set of clothes for Bian Xiao, while another maid was tidying up the bed.

Bian Yin and Norrexis glanced at their daughter from a few meters away, mainly because they wouldn't feel at ease without checking on her.

I didn't want to disturb the doctor, and I was going to change my clothes and clean myself up a bit. After all, I had just come back from outside and I didn't know how many germs I had on me, so I couldn't get close to my sick daughter.

After taking a shower and changing their clothes, Bian Yin and Norris went to Bian Xiao's room.

Bian Yin sat gently on the edge of her daughter's bed. Her daughter, who was usually lively and energetic, now lay fragilely on the bed.

Bian Yin tenderly touched her little face.

"Why is it still so hot!" Bian Yin exclaimed, but managed to keep her voice down.

I touched my daughter's little hands again, and thankfully her hands and feet were warm, which meant it was just a common fever.

Norris pressed the back of her hand against her daughter's cheek, felt the warmth, then turned away to find the doctor outside.

"Hogg, what's going on? Didn't Della take her medicine? Why is she still so hot?" Norrexis's voice was low and displeased.

Sadwell was as strong as a calf as a child and had never been sick. When his daughter fell ill for the first time, even Norris became a silly father.

“Sir, it’s only been half an hour since you took the medicine. It can’t be that fast. The fever should break in about another half hour,” Dr. Hogg quickly explained. “If possible, please make sure Miss Della drinks plenty of fluids. She may sweat when the fever breaks, so please change her sweaty clothes promptly.”

Lilith had already prepared the water that the nurse had mixed. Norris took the tray and went into the room.

Bian Xiao vaguely felt as if someone was touching her face.

"Mommy, Daddy?"

Barely opening his eyes, he saw Bian Yin and Norris. Feeling unwell, Bian Xiao seemed to have found support. "Mommy, Daddy, Della, I feel terrible," he said, tears streaming down his face.

Bian Yin watched her daughter cry, lying weakly on the bed telling her she was sad, and her own eyes welled up with tears. She immediately hugged her daughter's small body tenderly, saying, "Della, Xiaoxiao, don't cry, Mommy's here."

"Daddy's little angel, don't cry." Noresis' heart ached when he saw his daughter crying. He quickly picked up the towel on the plate and gently wiped away his daughter's tears.

"Aleria, I'll give Della some water."

Bian Yin held Bian Xiao in her arms, then wrapped her in a thin blanket, leaving only her small face and half a shoulder exposed.

Norris knelt on the ground, holding a water glass in one hand and pressing the straw to her daughter's lips with the other.

Bian Xiao was still running a fever, feeling as if there was a volcano inside him. He opened his dry lips and gulped down water.

The water was warm and had a slightly lemony and sugary taste.

Seeing her daughter drinking with gusto, Bian Yin wiped her sweat, saying, "Della, don't rush, drink slowly."

Her little face was wrinkled and her eyebrows were furrowed, which made the couple feel sorry for her.

The cups were small, and after feeding Bian Xiao two cups, he felt that he had drunk enough.

"Mommy, Daddy"

Perhaps the medicine was working, or perhaps the water was. Bian Xiao regained some energy, reached out and hugged Bian Yin, pressed his cheek against his mother's collarbone, feeling her embrace, and faced Norris, who was kneeling on the ground.

"What's wrong, Daddy's little princess?"

Looking into Della's round green eyes and hearing her call him daddy, Norris wanted nothing more than to give his little princess all the precious things in the world.

But at this moment, his beloved was in so much pain that Norris wished he could suffer in her place.

"Why are you back? Is it because of Della?"

"Yes, Mommy was so worried when she heard that Della fell into the water, she and your daddy rushed back immediately." Bian Yin kissed her daughter's still warm and chubby little face, but she felt that it was not as round as the day before yesterday.

Bian Xiao was a little embarrassed. He grabbed Bian Yin's collar, buried his face in his mother's arms, and said in a muffled voice, "Della, it wasn't on purpose."

"My little angel, it's alright. Next time, we'll stay away from the water," Norris quickly reached out and pulled her daughter's face out of the water. "Don't let her suffocate."

The couple soothed their little girl while wiping her sweat. Seeing her daughter was sleepy but determined not to fall asleep, Bian Yin gently rocked her and sang a lullaby to Bian Xiao.

Sleep, sleep, Mommy's little baby.

Bian Xiao lay in her mother's warm embrace, listening to her sing, while her father's broad, warm hands wiped away her sweat.

In a daze, Bian Xiao fell asleep.

She saw a little girl, about seven or eight years old, sitting on a stool in the corner, washing a baby's clothes, while a mother was softly humming a lullaby to her feverish child in her arms.

Sleep, sleep, Mommy's little baby.

When Bian Xiao saw the little girl washing clothes, he glanced at the woman inside, his eyes filled with envy.

Bian Xiao suddenly realized that this was her past life. Bian Qiang suddenly developed a high fever, and his irritable mother ordered Bian Xiao Xiao to wash Bian Qiang's sweaty clothes, but gently coaxed Bian Qiang to sleep.

Bian Xiao thought she had forgotten, but in fact she didn't want to remember. She didn't want to remember that she had never received the maternal love that Bian Qiang disdained but that she longed for.

Gradually, the woman's voice faded, replaced by Bian Yin's gentle voice.

Sleep, sleep, Mommy's little baby.

Bian Xiao looked at the woman on the bed and felt a sense of relief. "So you weren't my mother after all."

And now, she has finally returned to her mother's embrace.

As Bian Yin sang, she noticed a tear sliding down Bian Xiao's cheek. Thinking it was discomfort from the fever, she hugged her daughter tightly, kissing her head repeatedly, wishing she could take her daughter's place.

Bian Yin and his wife worked for several hours without asking any servants for help, until Bian Xiao fell into a deep sleep, which was already evening.

During this time, Bian He wanted to see his younger sister, but he was still a child, and what if he got infected? So it wasn't until evening that Bian He was allowed to go in to see his sister, but he only got a quick look before Bian Yin called You An to take her away.

It was past 2 a.m. when Sadwell rushed back.

Four of the five cars, including the ones escorting Sadwell, stopped at the entrance and drove into the parking lot in the darkness.

Sadwell already knew about his sister's fever that afternoon while on the plane, but no matter how anxious he was, he could only wait.

After changing my clothes, I went to visit my younger sister.

Loy, who was on the night shift, opened the door for Sadwell.

He lifted the curtain and saw his younger sister, Della, sleeping peacefully in bed. Her thick, seaweed-like black hair was spread out on the pillow. His little princess closed her round, green eyes.

In the afternoon, he saw the photo of Della, her cheeks flushed, her eyes brimming with tears, pitifully nestled in Aleria's arms. For the first time, he felt that the distance from country F to country M was far too great, and the means of transportation were far too backward.

Sadwell sat on the floor by his sister's bedside, leaning against the pillow. Moonlight streamed through the window, illuminating his profile and outlining his sculpted features. A long, slender, white hand held the little girl's round hand, and his slightly darker green eyes looked at Bian Xiao with exceptional tenderness in the moonlight.

After watching for an unknown amount of time, Sadwell gently kissed his sister's forehead and left the bedroom.
