Chapter 94 [Bonus Chapter] Volunteer Amuro Tooru performs sterilization on stray cats (The End)

Akihara: I heard you've been telling everyone that I got ripped off?

Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.

A white Mazda sped along the road.

"Hmm, why does it feel like I'm racing even though I'm not speeding..." Mitsuhiko forced half of his head out from between the seats to look at the dashboard.

"Is Xiao Hei carsick? He's been so listless ever since we got in the car," Ayumi said with some concern, peering through the cage door.

The black cat was lying languidly in one corner of the cage. Its eyes, which had once shone with a cold light, now appeared dull and hazy, having lost their former brilliance. Its tail drooped limply over the edge of the cage, and the tips of its ears would occasionally tremble slightly from the swaying of the vehicle.

Amuro Tooru seemed to have a certain image flash through his mind, narrowed his eyes, and then drove the car more steadily.

What an interesting coincidence...

"Maybe it knew what it was about to face. After all, Nightshade is a very intelligent cat." Mitsuhiko was still a little shaken when he recalled their "confrontation".

"Yeah, yeah, as expected of Kamen Rider Super Cat." Genta rubbed his face, which still had a faint plum blossom mark on it.

Soon, the Mazda came to a smooth stop in front of the nearest pet hospital in Beika Town. The three little guys eagerly stuck their heads out before the car even stopped, and what came into view were several banners at the entrance of the pet hospital—

"Light up a healthy future for stray kittens and build a harmonious environment for humans and animals," "Caring for stray cats, the free sterilization program is launched! Let's join hands to protect their tomorrow"... These are the promotional materials they saw at the Poirot Cafe.

“There are so many people. Volunteers are definitely needed in this situation…” Ayumi sighed as she looked at the crowd coming and going.

Just as Amuro Tooru turned off the engine, signaling to the kids in the back that they could leave safely, Mitsuhiko asked curiously, "Amuro-nii, what are the requirements for volunteering here?"

After Amuro saw that the three of them had gotten out of the car, he locked the car door and answered seriously, "Well... you need to be loving and responsible, have time, and not be allergic to cat fur. These are the most basic requirements. After that, you also need to learn some professional skills, such as simple soothing techniques, basic methods of moving and caring for cats after surgery, etc. So people with veterinary or related professional backgrounds, or those with animal rescue experience, will be given priority."

The three little ones listened intently to Amuro Tooru's explanation of scientific knowledge, and then the four of them, along with the black cat in the cage, entered the pet hospital.

The receptionist clearly recognized Amuro Tooru; her eyes lit up when she saw him enter. "Mr. Amuro, you've arrived?"

Amuro Tooru responded with a polite smile, "Yes, we brought this little guy in to be neutered." As he spoke, he pointed to the cage in Mitsuhiko's hand.

The young woman understood. "I know, the doctor is inside. They should have just finished the last surgery. You can go straight there."

Amuro Tooru nodded his thanks and walked with the three of them towards the innermost office.

However, the moment he opened the door, a dark shadow lunged straight at his face.

"Ah!" The three little ones reacted even more strongly than the person involved, letting out a chorus of screams.

"Watson, come back. Don't scare the guests." A familiar voice rang out from inside the room.

Only then did the group realize that the dark shadow fluttering its claws around Amuro Tooru's hair was actually a small eagle with brown feathers. After hearing the voice of the person inside the room, it reluctantly let go of Amuro Tooru, flapped its wings, and flew back to the perch next to the desk.

Amuro Tooru tidied his disheveled hair in a rather disheveled manner before looking at the person with a forced smile.

But before he could even speak, the three little ones exclaimed in surprise once again, "Brother Qiuyuan!"

"Good afternoon, Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, and Genta." Akihara Kazuhiro's tone was calm, with a slight upturn at the corners of his mouth. He then gently adjusted his glasses and turned to tease the eagle called Watson. Under his care, the previously irritable bird of prey seemed to have transformed into a large Java sparrow, squinting its eyes and rubbing against Akihara's hand.

"Brother Qiuyuan, what are you doing here?" Ayumi raised her hand and asked curiously.

“Since this charity project started, we’ve been short-staffed, especially lacking veterinarians. So, I came here as a temporary volunteer,” Akihara Kazumitsu explained gently to Ayumi.

"Wow, Brother Akihara even knows how to treat animals?" Ayumi's eyes lit up.

"Haha, that's right, I did have a long history of treating 'animals' before," Akihara Kazumitsu replied with a laugh, but for some reason, he emphasized the word "animals."

"Lying," Amuro thought to himself, having thoroughly investigated Akihara Kazumitsu's background.

"Amazing!" Ayumi unconditionally praised Akihara Kazumitsu.

Genta and Mitsuhiko turned around and whispered to each other, "Is it really something to be happy about that our school doctor is actually a veterinarian...?"

Amuro Tooru smiled and casually took over the conversation, as if making small talk: "What's the deal with this eagle? I remember that it's forbidden to keep such animals as pets in Tokyo, right?"

Akihara Kazumitsu looked as if he had finally noticed that there was someone else standing there, and a slightly exaggerated look of surprise appeared on his face.

"Oh, I remember you're the waiter at Poirot's Cafe, right?"

Amuro Tooru gave a fake smile. "That's right, Dr. Akihara. I'm truly honored to be remembered by you."

“Well, the ham sandwiches made by the shop assistant were indeed impressive,” Akihara said gently. “As for this eagle, perhaps you should ask its owner. The shop assistant should be familiar with it, after all, he is the son of the Superintendent General of Police.”

Amuro Tooru's smile remained unchanged. "What does Dr. Akihara mean by this?"

"Ara ara, it's just the literal meaning."

The three children looked at Amuro Tooru, then at Akihara Kazuhiro. "Amuro-nii and Akihara-nii...aren't they a little conflicted?"

Akihara adjusted his glasses and replied with a smile, "How could that be?"

He then opened the medical record. "So, you didn't come here today just to chat with me, did you?"

Reminded by his words, Mitsuhiko quickly stepped forward and placed the cage on the table. "We caught a black cat that often freeloads at Poirot Cafe, and we want to bring it here to be spayed/neutered."

"Oh, let me see." Akihara opened the cage door and gently took the listless black cat out of it, supporting its belly with one hand and stroking its head with the other.

"Good boy/girl, what's its name?"

The three little ones were amazed at how well-behaved the black cat was in Akihara's hands, as if it had become a different cat, and for a moment they forgot to fight for the right to name the black cat.

“Su Dai,” Amuro Tooru spoke.

Akihara raised an eyebrow, looked up, and met the other person's eyes. "Oh?"

“What I mean is, this cat’s name is Su Dai,” Amuro explained with a smile, speaking slowly and deliberately.

Akihara Kazuhiro didn't react at all. He nodded as if he were hearing the name for the first time, put the cat on the desk, petted the cat with his left hand, and wrote a medical record with his right.

"Waaah, I can't call him Little Black..."

"Kamen Rider Cat! Kamen Rider Cat!"

"Night Shadow Lightning - Dark Flame Eyes!"

Akihara Kazumitsu paused in writing the medical record, then looked up at Mitsuhiko. "You have good taste. I think this... 'Dark Night Starry Night Blue Eyes Phantom' sounds much better than 'Su Dai'."

"Thank you, but it seems I didn't say that was my name..."

"Meow↗↘", the black cat weakly protested, then realized that no one cared about its feelings, so it angrily snuggled into Akihara's arms.

"How amazing... all the little animals really like Brother Qiuyuan."

"Maybe." Qiu Yuan smiled. "Alright, before the surgery, we need to conduct a comprehensive physical examination and fast it from food and water for about 8 hours, so let's pick it up again tomorrow morning."

“Okay, Akihara-nii-san,” Ayumi said excitedly. “Be good, little… Su Dai.”

She tried to reach out her hand again, but having probably lost the black cat's trust, she was unsurprisingly hissed at.

……

Amuro Tooru was pasting a photo on the wall behind the bar. In the photo, Su Dai's mouth was crooked, her eyes were slanted, and her tongue was sticking out, looking like she was still under anesthesia after surgery.

After doing all that, he turned back to the black cat, who was wearing an Elizabethan collar and whose eyes were filled with cold hatred, and said with a smile, "Don't glare at me like that. I'm not the one who performed the surgery on you."

Yes, he still doesn't understand why, even though it was Su Dai who stabbed him and even sent him the following photos, he was the one who ended up bearing all the hatred.

The black cat wouldn't listen to him at all, and its insults became even more vulgar: "Meow!"

"Alright, alright, Su Dai, I'll go prepare your cat food right away." Seeing the kitten start swearing again, Amuro Tooru quickly stroked the black cat's back. It instinctively wanted to turn its head to bite him, but was blocked by the Elizabethan collar and almost fell off the bar.

It seems that Su Dai still has a long way to go before becoming a well-behaved cat that is not aggressive, doesn't cause trouble, doesn't destroy the house, and is loved by pets, cuddles, and kisses.
