Following the priest's lead, Amuro Tooru pushed open the wooden door and entered the church's prayer hall.

Sunlight streamed through the windows of the prayer hall, bringing a touch of warmth to the small space. Perhaps it was because of the recent rain, or perhaps it was the church's shady location—Amuro Tooru's first impression upon entering was one of cold, a chill that penetrated to the bone.

He frowned slightly, calmly found a seat in the last row, and looked around. The decoration of this prayer hall was not much different from that of a typical church, only slightly simpler in the details.

The only thing that caught his attention was the mural on the dome, which depicted the three-legged god that Hina had mentioned. He was wearing a white robe and had his back to the painting, and from this angle, one could see his huge black wings.

Amuro Tooru withdrew his gaze and turned his attention to the worshippers who had come to pray around him. Just as Hina had said, although it was Sunday, there were very few people who came to pray.

The worshippers, who all appeared to be locals, sat or stood, their faces showing signs of weariness from life, but they were all praying devoutly with their heads bowed, each with a deep sense of awe and tranquility on their faces.

At this moment, the tall priest slowly ascended the altar, patiently waiting for the three o'clock bell to ring in the afternoon.

Amuro Tooru's professional habits prompted his gaze to wander through the crowd, but everyone seemed to be immersed in their own world of faith, leaving no room for doubt.

Suddenly, the bells rang, and the priest looked up at the crowd below the stage. Then he opened the ceremonial book and solemnly began to recite the prayer.

"Lord, we seek light in darkness, like lonely exiles seeking the refuge of home. We gather here not to demonstrate our own purity, but to honestly confront the shadows within our hearts and pray for your redemption and guidance..."

"May your wisdom, like the light of dawn, dispel the fog that shrouds our hearts, allowing us to recognize our true selves and understand the meaning of our existence."

The voices of the priest and believers echoed throughout the prayer hall. Although Amuro Tooru appeared to be listening attentively and respectfully to the prayers, he was actually savoring the words in his heart.

It sounded somewhat different from a normal Catholic Mass prayer, but it wasn't a big problem. Amuro Tooru thought to himself, but a vague sense of unease lingered in his heart.

He glanced again at the Yatagarasu fusion monster god on the mural, and a spark of inspiration seemed to well up in his mind. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he couldn't ignore it.

After the opening prayers, two pastors emerged from the left and right sides to distribute communion to the congregation. One was Eucharist bread, a traditional Bon bread shaped like a sun disc, which Amuro Tooru speculated might incorporate the symbolism of Yatagarasu as a messenger of the sun god. The other was a glass of clear water with a slight herbal aroma. By observing it closely in the candlelight and the limited sunlight filtering through the glass window, Amuro Tooru noticed that the water seemed to have a light green tint.

Since most of the time was spent traveling, Amuro Tooru, who had not yet had lunch, naturally did not waste the holy bread and herbal water, and accepted the generous gift from the Church of Divine Light along with the believers around him.

Perhaps it was a psychological effect, but after eating the dry holy bread and drinking water with the scent of herbs, Amuro Tooru felt refreshed, and the fatigue from the journey and the drowsiness of the afternoon were greatly relieved.

At that moment, the side door on the left side of the altar opened, and a group of children dressed in white robes filed out, including Hina, who had just chatted with Amuro Tooru.

Clearly, the girl noticed Amuro Tooru sitting in the audience. A slight smile appeared on her lips, but she quickly regained her composure and returned to the same calm and devotion as the children.

The children stood obediently on the choir platform in front of the altar, and as the lead child sang, their melodious voices, clear as spring water, instantly filled the entire church:

"In the quiet of the night, we sing in unison,

Like moonlight gently brushing away the darkness before dawn.

We search for guidance in the fog.

"Within the Church of Redemption, threads of hope are woven..."

These children, dressed in ill-fitting white robes, expressed their reverence and love for their god through song. The sacred and ethereal melody gently rippled in the invisible space of the church.

"Lord, may your will shine like the first rays of dawn."

"Light up the path beneath our feet,"

No matter how the world changes, or how fierce the storms may be.

"We will hold fast to our beliefs until we reveal the true meaning of life."

"Amen, let us pray together, let us sing together."

As the Mass drew to a close, the choir's singing gradually subsided, and the church returned to tranquility.

The priest made the same prayer gesture again, and the parishioners closed their eyes and placed their right hands on their chests, immersed in their inner reverence.

Amuro Tooru imitated them, making an "OK" sign and naturally bending the three fingers excluding the thumb and index finger, placing them in front of his chest.

The Mass finally came to an end. The priest opened his eyes, stopped moving, and opened the door to the confessional. Some of the believers rose and went forward to confess, while others remained in place in silent prayer.

Seeing this, Amuro Tooru also got up and joined the last line.

Fortunately, there weren't many believers attending Mass to begin with, so the line quickly shortened, and after a short while, it was Amuro Tooru's turn.

"Father, hello." Amuro Tooru did not enter the confessional, but instead chatted with Father René outside the door.

“Hello, esteemed sir, my name is Rene de Vignon. May I ask your name?” The priest made a prayer gesture once more.

This time, being closer, Amuro Tooru noticed that the other person's hands were slightly rough, with obvious calluses between the index finger and thumb.

"Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Amuro Tooru." Amuro's perspective shifted upwards, and given his height, he had to tilt his head slightly to speak with this priest.

“Mr. Amuro Tooru. Is this your first time here?” The priest nodded and asked in a kind tone that didn’t match his size.

Amuro Tooru intended to continue asking the questions he hadn't finished asking Hina earlier, but a strange sense of unease gradually crept into his heart, and his intuition stopped him from saying anything more.

He paused, preparing to change direction and explore for clues indirectly.

"Yes, I just arrived in Kyoto last night. I originally planned to visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple, but when I passed by this street, I heard the bells of this church. And since Hina-chan introduced it to me, I was fortunate enough to attend your mass. I hope... I haven't offended you."

The priest smiled and nodded slightly, seemingly accepting his explanation. "How could that be? The Lord said, 'Everyone can be justified by faith,' and we welcome people of all faiths to participate in Mass."

“I admire your tolerance,” Amuro Tooru said with a smile, mimicking his manner.

Immediately, he took out his wallet, took out a wad of banknotes—of course, the organization's activity funds—and stuffed them into the offering box next to him. As he did this, Amuro Tooru felt that the priest's gaze softened a little.

"May God's light protect you." The priest smiled and made a gesture similar to "OK".

Seeing that Amuro Tooru was still staring at his hands, the priest suddenly added, "This is our church's prayer hand gesture, the 'mystic grip.' The ring formed by touching the index finger and thumb represents the sun, which is a symbol of our Lord; the other three fingers are naturally curved, representing the three legs of our Lord and the Trinity."

"I see." Amuro Tooru suddenly understood, and at the same time gave the other person an OK sign.

"So, Mr. Amuro, would you like to hear my sermon next, or is there anything else you would like to ask?" The priest looked down at Amuro.

"In fact, I learned some things about your church from Haruna. If possible, I would also like to do my part for the children."

Amuro Tooru observed the other person's reaction, his face full of worry and concern, and then "sincerely" continued, "Can I volunteer here?"
