Figure Skating: Waltz on Ice

Chapter 19 Exams and Competitions

"Have you decided what kind of dance you want to learn?" Grandma Du asked.

"Hmm... I'll learn whichever dance can correct my lack of coordination." Du Liangchen was about to say he would continue learning Chinese dance, but then he suddenly remembered that he was a child and shouldn't know anything about these things, so he quickly changed his mind.

"Let's ask the coach about this tomorrow and see if he has any good suggestions before we implement them. It's already very late, go to sleep," Grandma Du urged.

Du Liangchen also knew that this matter could not be rushed. He had not forgotten what had happened before and had not seriously examined himself now. It was normal for a child without muscle memory to have uncoordinated limbs.

The next day, Du Liangchen found Coach Zhao.

"It seems you've realized where your problem lies. I suggest you learn ballet; it will greatly improve your limb problems and enhance your poise."

Coach Zhao looked at Du Liangchen kindly.

"Isn't it okay to learn Chinese dance?"

"Of course, this kind of dance can also solve your problem, but ballet is more recognizable in the world."

Coach Zhao's words ignited a fire of anger within Du Liangchen. However, he knew that what Coach Zhao said was true.

"Thank you for the suggestion, Coach. I will learn from it."

"Yes, and strength too. You can watch street dance. Actually, figure skating is not just about jumping, but also about your physical expression."

"I understand, Coach Zhao."

A few days later, Grandma Du found a place, and Du Liangchen began training and dance classes, choosing three dance styles: Chinese dance, ballet, and street dance.

Final exam.

Grandpa Du took Du Liangchen to school early in the morning. Du Liangchen watched his classmates playing and laughing in twos and threes, and looked at everything in the school that was both familiar and unfamiliar. Du Liangchen really felt that even if he didn't learn figure skating and went to class every day, he could never go back to his childhood innocence.

When Du Liangchen entered the third-grade classroom, it was noisy. He attracted everyone's attention as he walked in, and they looked at him with a sense of familiarity and unfamiliarity.

"Du Liangchen, holy crap~ it really is you."

Du Liangchen saw the person waving and talking to him and realized it was his deskmate.

"Chen Feng".

"Du Liangchen, I thought you'd forgotten about me. You haven't come to school or contacted me for so long, what does that mean?"

Chen Feng said loudly.

Du Liangchen knew he meant no harm and said kindly, "Training was too tiring, I didn't have time. I'll treat you to milk tea after the exam."

Chen Feng led Du Liangchen to sit down next to him and said painfully, "You have no idea that after you left, I had nowhere to copy my homework. You really ruined my life."

Du Liangchen watched Chen Feng's outburst and awkwardly tugged at the corner of his mouth.

After the exam, I went to have milk tea with Chen Feng. I learned some things about school and we agreed to keep in touch before we parted ways.

Junior Championship

Because of his poor individual performance, Du Liangchen finished eleventh in this year's National Junior Figure Skating Championships.

On the way back after the competition, Du Liangchen sat dejectedly in the back of the car, covering his face with his clothes so that no one could see his expression.

"It's okay, Xiao Chen. We'll continue learning dance, and we'll definitely get a good ranking next year." Grandma Du sat in the passenger seat and looked at Du Liangchen in the rearview mirror.

Du Liangchen had expected this outcome. He didn't have high hopes for the competition, but he still couldn't help feeling sad after learning the result.
