The lighting was dim, and only soft, low music played in the bar. Jiang Jin sat on a high stool at the bar, while two girls at the next table kept glancing at him as they talked.
He arrived early today; Amadeus hadn't closed yet, and the regular customers were still there. Jiang Jin turned his head to look at the two girls beside him, and their eyes met. He smiled at her, then suddenly got up and walked towards them.
The two were clearly surprised by Jiang Jin's sudden appearance, and they quickly tried to appear more reserved, with one of them picking up a wine glass.
"Good evening, ladies." Jiang Jin greeted them, then suddenly reached out and took the two girls' wine glasses. "Outside, if a glass is out of your sight for more than three seconds, don't drink anything from it."
As they were talking, two bodyguards in black escorted a man past them. Just as the two girls were talking and glancing at Jiang Jin, a man passed by and added something to their drink.
Although Aymold kept watching while wiping the glasses, his gaze never left the people in the bar. They weren't exactly good people, but some of the scum would attract the police and cause them unnecessary trouble.
"Thank you." Seeing this, the two girls instantly understood what had happened, and their faces paled for a moment.
Seeing this, Jiang Jin turned his head and snapped his fingers, saying to Aimod, "Boss, please get two glasses of juice for the two ladies to calm their nerves."
No sooner had she finished speaking than a handsome waiter came over with two glasses of orange juice and apologized, saying, "Ladies, I'm so sorry to have startled you."
"A glass of absinthe."
Hearing the voice behind him, Jiang Jin turned around and saw Vermouth already sitting gracefully in his previous seat. Jiang Jin nodded to the two girls and turned to leave.
"Hey, can we buy you a drink?" one of the girls boldly asked as Jiang Jin was about to leave.
Jiang Jin turned back, smiled, and shook his head at them, saying, "Sorry, I already have an appointment." Then, without giving the two a chance to stop him, he walked straight towards Vermouth.
"What a heroic rescue!" Vermouth joked to Jiang Jin.
Jiang Jin chuckled. "Even if I didn't intervene, Aymod wouldn't have let him succeed. Maintaining order in a bar is everyone's responsibility. But... Miss Chris still seems to enjoy watching the drama. I just wonder, what brings you here to meet me?"
“Naturally, it’s something you’re interested in,” Vermouth replied softly, swirling her wine glass.
"Oh?" Jiang Jin raised an eyebrow. "There are only three things in this world that can interest me: making money, killing people, and watching entertainment. I wonder, which one is Miss Chris referring to?"
Vermouth brought the glass to her lips and took a small sip: "I think this should count as the third one."
Jiang Jin looked at Vermouth calmly, clearly wanting to hear what she had to say next.
“A few months ago I went to England and got rid of a troublesome person there. But recently, when my people went to investigate, they found that the person who was supposed to be dead was missing.”
"Gone?" Jiang Jin repeated. "How could a dead person just disappear?"
“Even if it’s a dead person, the organization can find traces of her, but my people didn’t find any police or hospital records of how the body was handled, not to mention she had accomplices abroad. So I sent people to investigate, and based on the clues left in England, I suspect they didn’t die, but escaped to Japan.” Vermouth put down her glass, her blue eyes revealing a coldness. “Originally, I didn’t believe that person could survive, but then I thought of that kid working for Sherry, and I realized that anything is possible.”
At this point, Jiang Jin already knew who Vermouth was referring to—it was Akai Mary, whom she had given A drug. And coincidentally, he and Furuya Rei had seen Sera Masumi at the train station a while ago; everything made perfect sense.
"So, the amusement Miss Chris wanted me to see was yourself? You tried to kill me to cover it up, but you failed. Does that lord know?" Jiang Jin's eyes darted around, his tone teasing. Vermouth wasn't angry; she smiled, her lips curving upwards. "Yes, it was indeed my carelessness. As for that lord, he doesn't know about it yet. So, you've had your fun. If you enjoyed it, could you do your sister a favor?"
"Sigh, it's true what they say, 'He who eats another's food is bound to do his bidding.' I wonder what kind of help Miss Chris needs from me?" Jiang Jin said, feigning a sigh.
“Of course, it’s your old job. Get rid of this troublesome person for me as soon as possible.” Vermouth said, taking an exquisite box out of her handbag and pushing it to Jiang Jin. “Oh, by the way, this is for you.”
Jiang Jin lowered his eyes, picked up the exquisite box, examined it carefully, and then opened the lid. Inside the box was lined with black velvet, and on it lay a finely crafted butterfly knife.
“This is the work of an old British craftsman who specializes in custom-made cold weapons,” Vermouth told Jiang Jin. “I originally just went to visit him, and I happened to see this butterfly knife. I thought it would be quite suitable for you.”
Jiang Jin picked up the butterfly knife and tested it slightly. He was indeed more and more satisfied with it: "It is indeed a good thing. Miss Chris has gone to great lengths."
“They say a weapon is a killer’s second life.” Vermouth saw that Jiang Jin did show some affection, but she didn’t give a clear answer to what she was talking about. “The task that gentleman gave me is urgent. That person who should have died is the biggest obstacle to the mission. If I don’t do this well, he will send Rum to take care of it. Nobody likes having their credit stolen. If I agree to do this for you, the higher-ups will definitely value you even more.”
Jiang Jin laughed and put the knife back into the box: "Then thank you very much, Miss Chris. Don't worry, I'm always the most ethical and honest person."
Ran won a free cake voucher from the Beika Hotel. Since Kogoro Mouri happened to be away on a mission, Ran simply invited Sonoko and Conan to go eat cake together.
Unexpectedly, the three of them got into a misunderstanding with a teenager on the bus and almost mistook him for a pervert and took him to the police station.
At the Beika Hotel, Conan watched the boy booking a room at the front desk and thought to himself, "So he really is going to stay here, it wasn't just something he said casually."
"The hotel's advertisement says the place where you can eat cake is in the coffee shop on the second floor," Ran said, holding her phone. Conan turned his attention back to Ran and looked around. "There's an elevator over there. Let's go to the second floor and take a look."
Just then, the elevator doors opened, and a woman in her forties wearing a green dress stepped out. Seeing Conan running over, she asked him, "Little boy, where are you going?"
"We're going to the coffee shop on the second floor."
"That elevator doesn't go there; it goes to the annex," the other person said.
Ran and Sonoko came over to thank them, but Conan was puzzled. Didn't the receptionist just say that the annex was under renovation?
The two people sitting in the lobby lounge seemed to know this woman, and the three of them appeared to be talking when Conan and his friends left.
"No way? We can't go into the restaurant anymore?"
When Conan and his two companions arrived at the second-floor cafe, they learned that because there were more customers than expected, there weren't enough cakes available, so they had stopped letting customers in.
Just as the staff at the park and entrance were expressing their dissatisfaction, a loud noise suddenly startled everyone.
Conan suddenly turned his head to look out the window, wondering what that sound was. Was it coming from the direction of the parking lot?
Then a scream rang out, and Conan immediately ran out.
"Conan... wait a minute!"
In the parking lot, the three people who had just been talking in the hotel lobby were all deathly pale. A man was lying face down on the ground, which was covered in dark red.
"This is terrible! Call an ambulance immediately!"
"What happened?" Conan appeared in the parking lot and was also surprised to see the person on the ground.
"Just now, when I was backing up, this person suddenly..." the woman in green said, trembling.
"Yes...yes, it's Assistant Shao."
Before Conan could ask who the young master they were talking about was, the woman in green pointed to the rooftop in a panic and said she saw someone up there.
When Ran and Sonoko arrived with the security guards, Conan turned to them and said, "Sonoko-neechan, Shinobu, you two quickly notify the police and then help this gentleman protect the crime scene. I want to go up to the roof with these people to take a look."
The elevator reached the top floor, but the door opened from the other side, revealing unfinished paint on the top floor.
There was no one on the rooftop, except for a black garment placed on the edge with a pair of shoes on it.
"Was this suicide?"
The woman in green, called Zhouchuan, immediately said, "Is it all because of what I said that drove him to the brink and made him commit suicide?"
Conan frowned and shook his head, saying, "No, this is a murder case."
"I think this is a murder case."
Another voice spoke in unison with Conan, and when he turned around, he found it was the boy he had met on the bus.
"Did you personally witness anyone pushing him down?"
The young man shook his head: "No. It's just that my hearing is particularly good for my job, so I only overheard you saying that the deceased was completely drunk. How could someone who needs some time to sober up possibly take off their coat and neatly place their shoes on their clothes while in a drunken state?"
Conan's gaze remained fixed on the boy as he spoke. Was it for work? What kind of job required excellent hearing?
"While it's possible that someone unrelated placed them there as a prank, we can rule that out since the shoes are directly above the deceased. To summarize, the murderer probably arranged the shoes neatly in this spot to mislead everyone into believing the deceased committed suicide by jumping. Don't you think so, Conan?"
The boy's expression seemed somewhat defiant.
"Where is the murderer?" someone asked.
"I think I'll be caught soon, right? Because I already asked the security guards who are monitoring the elevator and stairs for help before I came up to this rooftop." The boy looked very confident.
"Excuse me, who exactly is this person?"
“My name is Sera, and like this child, I am a detective.”
Sera and Conan's eyes met, and they both saw wariness and suspicion in each other's eyes.
"The murderer? Could it be me?" Just then, a voice rang out from behind them, and everyone looked in the direction of the voice.
The person who arrived was a woman with long platinum blonde hair and deep green eyes. She was wearing a long black trench coat and leaning against the doorway of the rooftop.
"Ms. Amamiya, what are you doing here?" Conan asked in surprise. "And your eyes?"
Compared to Conan's surprise, Sera Masumi's gaze was fixed on the woman who had suddenly appeared. This was because she looked remarkably like her mother.
"Of course, it's because I live here. I saw Xiaoxiao, Sonoko, and the corpse downstairs, and that's how I knew you were here. As for your eyes... I was just disguising them before."
