Chapter 203 First Meeting 1
Zhou Yanhuan walked lightly at the front, her graceful figure like a dancing fairy. Close behind her were her brother Zhou Yanchuan and younger brother Zhou Jiaxuan, followed by Rong Huaizhi and Yu Enyang, two elegant gentlemen. They walked slowly through the long corridor.
This long corridor was distinctly different from their residence in the capital. First, it covered a much larger area, seemingly stretching endlessly; second, its unique architectural style left a deep impression. The walls on both sides of the corridor were carved with exquisite patterns, magnificent chandeliers hung from the ceiling, and soft carpets covered the floor—every detail showcased the owner's refined taste and substantial wealth.
Due to the main building's unique layout and large scale, they walked at a leisurely pace. Time passed quietly, and before they knew it, they had been strolling along this luxurious yet understated corridor for about 10 minutes. Just then, the view suddenly opened up, revealing a spacious and bright living room—they had finally arrived at their destination!
Just as Zhou Yanhuan was about to step into the living room, she subtly gestured for her brother and Rong Huaizhi to switch places. Thus, Zhou Yanhuan and Rong Huaizhi were now walking at the front. As they entered the elegant, silver-toned European-style living room, Zhou Jiaze, who was sitting on the sofa, seemed to have precisely predicted Zhou Yanhuan's arrival, and at just the right moment, he raised his head and cast his gaze upon her.
Yet, in that single glance, the emotions contained surged like a tidal wave. His eyes held both exasperated anger at his sister's perceived lack of ambition and a barely perceptible hint of relief. This complex interplay of emotions made his gaze exceptionally deep and enigmatic, impossible to fathom.
Zhou Jiaze glanced at Zhou Yanhuan briefly before his expression changed instantly. His previously gentle gaze was replaced by blatant sarcasm, revealing extreme criticism and disdain. He then unceremoniously swept this aggressive gaze past Zhou Yanhuan, fixing it directly on Rong Huaizhi standing nearby. However, he quickly turned his head back to Zhou Yanhuan.
Meanwhile, Zhou Yanhuan, who was standing still, saw that Zhou Jiaze did not show any obvious anger after seeing her, but instead stared at her calmly. So, she gently pulled Rong Huaizhi beside her, and at the same time, she secretly put her other hand behind her back and made a subtle but clearly visible gesture to her brother Zhou Yanchuan, who was following closely behind—signaling him to hurry up and catch up.
Then, without any hesitation or arrogance, he led Rong Huaizhi and the other two towards the empty sofa. His steps were light and composed, his posture elegant like that of a noble gentleman. Upon reaching the sofa, he slowly turned and sat down with an extremely natural and casual air. Immediately afterward, Rong Huaizhi and the other two also sat down beside him. Thus, the sofa, originally meant for three people, was now squeezed with four.
After Zhou Yanhuan sat down steadily, she didn't even glance at the other people in the living room. The entire living room fell into a deathly silence, the atmosphere unusually heavy, as if a silent contest was quietly unfolding—a contest to see who among those present could remain calm and who could endure the longest.
The spacious and empty living room felt unusually cold and desolate. An invisible frost seemed to hang in the air, sending chills down one's spine. The dim, yellowish light cast a listless glow on everyone's faces, creating lines of light and shadow that shifted between bright and dim, clearly outlining each person's features. Yet, even so, it could not illuminate the eyes that were long since hidden deep in darkness.
In a corner of the living room, an old-fashioned grandfather clock ticked away mechanically, each strike sounding heavy and muffled. The sound was particularly deep, each tick like a hammer blow striking the heart, echoing and amplifying endlessly in the utterly silent space. Looking out the window, the night was thick and inky, pitch black, save for the occasional noise of a speeding car. Even this noise was fleeting, like a tiny ripple in the deathly silence, quickly returning to its original stillness.
The group sat around the slightly worn round table, their eyes meeting, a complex and difficult-to-decipher emotion swirling within them. Some pressed their lips tightly together, their brows furrowed as if wound up tightly, seemingly bearing immense pressure and distress; others stared blankly into the void, as if lost in endless contemplation, oblivious to everything around them.
At this moment, no one moved an inch; even the tables and chairs beneath them seemed nailed to the ground, utterly still. Yet, beneath this seemingly calm surface, an invisible, oppressive atmosphere was slowly spreading. Like a cold, serpentine snake, it silently coiled around everyone present, making it impossible for them to break free. This oppressive feeling seemed to possess a magical power, attempting to imprison all unspoken words and unexpressed emotions within this suffocating silence.
Time slipped away silently through people's fingers, and no one could know exactly how much time had passed. It might have been just a few minutes, but to those immersed in this silent atmosphere, it felt like centuries had gone by.
Finally, a male voice, clearly angry, suddenly rang out like a thunderclap, "Sure, Miss Zhou, just how many things have you been hiding from us?" It shattered the oppressive silence and completely broke the extremely dull atmosphere.
Zhou Yanhuan's gaze was drawn involuntarily to the direction from which the voice came, as if by a magnet. When her eyes met the source of the sound, she realized that it was Zhou Jiayu staring intently at her. Zhou Jiayu's eyes were like deep lakes, locked onto Zhou Yanhuan's figure, as if trying to find the hidden truth in the depths of her heart through her eyes and facial expressions.
Facing Zhou Jiayu's sharp gaze, Zhou Yanhuan seemed completely unfazed. She leisurely met his gaze, a faint smile playing on her lips. Then, she parted her lips slightly and replied in a nonchalant tone, "Oh? You ask about that! Well, I'll have to tell you all about it then. Actually, there's a lot going on here, many things you don't know. You see, everyone in this world has their own secrets, and these secrets are like treasures buried deep underground; only the person involved knows their value and mystery." As she finished speaking, Zhou Yanhuan's gaze intentionally or unintentionally glanced at Zhou Jiayu, who sat on the sofa, glaring at her with a furious expression.
