We bear people have power

Chapter 97 Overwhelming Power

When Zhang Yuanshan saw the toad-man break free of the encirclement and rush towards Guan Bo, he felt a surge of panic. No one knew the toad-man's power better than the Demon Extermination Alliance, and he feared something might happen to Guan Bo.

When Zhang Yuanshan saw Guan Bo about to fight the Toad Man head-on, he sighed in despair, fearing that the new member was going to lose his life.

However, the result was somewhat unexpected.

A single hammer blow shook the heavens!

Still wreathed in specks of demonic fire, the uniquely ugly hammer in Guan Bo's hand seemed to have grown even heavier than before. With a force capable of shattering the heavens and shattering the earth, it collided with the toad-man's head.

If it were an ordinary person, this hammer blow would not only shatter their head, but would also smash their entire body into a pulpy mess of bone and flesh. But the toad-man's cultivation was extremely high, and his head was even harder than steel.

The hammer strike produced a deafening roar, making Guan Bo's hands go numb. The toad-man was also badly hit, flying backwards and bouncing on the ground like a skipping stone before flying more than ten feet away.

Clearly, in terms of pure strength, Guan Bo is a cut above the Toad Man.

Zhang Yuanshan and the others were incredibly excited by what they saw. They knew all too well how powerful the toad-man was. Even seven or eight experts with mastered internal energy working together would be sent flying in a single blow. Even though they were already somewhat exhausted, killing any member of the Demon Extermination Alliance in an instant was no problem.

This toad-man isn't the first time he's appeared, but so far everyone has only been able to take advantage of his delirium and use formations to defend against him. However, each time they can only force the toad-man back, and he'll soon return with a vengeance.

Guan Bo's hammer blow was a revelation to everyone; they had finally found an opportunity to kill this toad-man.

Guan Bo didn't think that far ahead. He picked up the iron hammer, which seemed to have become even heavier, and chased after the toad-man, smashing it with sparks.

The hammer fell, but the toad-man rolled away and dodged the blow.

The sparking hammer fell to the ground, creating a crater half a meter in diameter. The flying sparks scorched all the flowers and grasses it touched.

The toad-man was unlucky; he never expected that this ugly, pitted hammer would have such an effect. Two specks of demonic fire splashed onto his body and burst into flames.

In no time, most of the clothes were burned away. However, this person's martial arts skills had probably reached the level of entering the Tao through martial arts. A hazy light emanated from his body and extinguished the demonic fire. Otherwise, his entire body would have been burned to a skeleton.

However, these demonic flames were merely a side attack for Guan Bo; in reality, he relied on his unreasonable brute strength.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Guan Bo swung his hammer at the toad-man's leg.

The hammer struck solidly, and with a crack, the lower leg was broken.

Some members of the Demon Extermination Alliance wanted to step forward to help, but Zhang Yuanshan quickly pulled them back and advised, "Don't go. It seems that Guan Zhuangshi has not practiced hammer techniques. He might accidentally hurt his own people. We should just stand by and watch."

Zhang Yuanshan's judgment was correct. In Baolin Temple, Guan Bo had learned some rudimentary martial arts skills in the form of knives, sticks, fists, and palms, but he had never learned hammer techniques.

Therefore, in Zhang Yuanshan and others' eyes, Guan Bo was like a novice blacksmith apprentice who didn't care about any skills and just relied on his long and big hammer to hit the toad man.

You might dodge one blow, but you can't dodge the second. If you get hit even once and hesitate for even a second, Guan Bo's barrage of blows will come like a storm.

The toad-man was like a pitiful block of iron, repeatedly pounded by Guan Bo. At first, he could block a few blows and even counterattack with a punch. However, when the fist landed on Guan Bo, it only made him take a few steps back, and his health bar dropped by less than one-tenth.

Because of his broken leg, the toad-man couldn't escape. He then entered a phase where he was completely overwhelmed by Guan Bo.

If this toad-man had been wearing black-rimmed glasses, or even if his belt had just been higher, Guan Bo wouldn't have dared to make a move.

Fortunately, he was just a simple toad-man.

The crowd watched as Guan Bo unilaterally beat the toad-man seven or eight times before finally stopping.

Guan Bo set the hammer aside, slightly out of breath. The toad-man, on the other hand, was in a much worse state. His once swollen body had become shriveled, like a dried-out frog. Moreover, his body was covered in bruises, making him look particularly pitiful.

Guan Bo stopped, not entirely because he was tired, but because when the toad-man returned to human form, the face looked somewhat familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen it before.

Zhang Yuanshan and the others only dared to approach after seeing Guan Bosheng win, only to find that the toad-man was not dead but was seriously injured and unconscious.

The demon-slaying alliance found a thick iron chain and bound the toad-man tightly, layer upon layer, fearing he might have any chance of escape. They were only relieved when the chain was several times heavier than the toad-man himself.

The Demon Extermination Alliance would handle this strange man, so Guan Bo wasn't too worried. He simply pulled Zhang Yuanshan aside and continued with the previous question: "You mean he's the one who came here with ulterior motives to steal the secret manual?"

Zhang Yuanshan smiled and said, "This person, in fact, has a very deep connection with the predecessors who founded the Demon Extermination Alliance. Strictly speaking, he is also the senior brother of Master Chongyang and Master Yideng."

"Wait a minute, aren't these two Taoist priests and Buddhist monks? How come they have a common senior brother?"

"That's a long story. First, let me tell you about the origins of the Demon Extermination Alliance. Hundreds of miles away in the Black Wind Mountain region, there used to be an abandoned Guanyin Temple. The founders of the Demon Extermination Alliance were all monks from that temple. They were fortunate enough to receive guidance from an immortal and cultivate this peerless divine skill, which greatly improved their skills and made them the top martial arts masters in the world. Master Chongyang also switched to Taoist martial arts because of the guidance from an immortal," Zhang Yuanshan explained.

"So, this toad-man was once a monk, and he should have received the teachings along with them. How did he end up like this?" Guan Bo asked.

"This brings us to the wonders of this technique. This nameless technique can be practiced by ordinary people, and it has the miraculous effects of prolonging life and enhancing internal strength. If one can uphold a virtuous heart and understand Buddhist principles, one can also develop unique supernatural powers, which are no less than any other martial arts in the world, and are almost like the methods of immortals. However, if one harbors evil intentions and practices this divine skill while committing evil deeds, at best one's power will not make any progress, and at worst one will go mad like this person."

Guan Bo was amazed when he heard Zhang Yuanshan's words: "There are such amazing techniques. No wonder you're not afraid of others stealing them."

The unique nature of this divine skill compels practitioners to do good; doing evil has the opposite effect, practically granting them a passive, reformed prodigal son effect. The members of the Demon Extermination Alliance are undoubtedly people willing to uphold justice, which is why they can cooperate so seamlessly. Unlike the mutual distrust among martial arts practitioners, their combined strength far surpasses that of those rabble.

"You two worked together quite well just now. Does this madman often cause trouble?" Guan Bo pressed on.

“Of course it’s not the first time, but this is the first time we’ve caught him, and we owe it all to your help, Guan Zhuangshi,” Zhang Yuanshan said, bowing to Guan Bo in gratitude.

"It was nothing. Besides, I'm a member of the Demon Extermination Alliance now," Guan Bo said with a smile.

"Haha, Brother Guan is a straightforward man. Once you join the Demon Extermination Alliance, you're a brother. In the future, if you need anything, as long as it doesn't violate the code of chivalry, we will do our best to help," Zhang Yuanshan assured him.

“Perfect timing, I need your help with something right now,” Guan Bo said without any hesitation.

"Speak frankly," Zhang Yuanshan said with great enthusiasm.

Based on Guan Bo's achievement of capturing the Toad Man, his request should be granted no matter what, unless it's something as trivial as plucking stars from the sky or taking the moon.

"Um, when is dinner? I'm a little hungry," Guan Bo said honestly.
