We bear people have power

Chapter 89 Untainted by Sin

Carrying his halberd, Guan Bo left the main hall and headed straight for the temple gate. Although the bandits were numerous, they weren't strong enough to completely surround Baolin Temple. Moreover, these bandits relied on numbers to bolster their courage, so it was impossible for them to divide their forces.

If it weren't for the fact that this bandit leader was afraid to fight two sides, and that several groups of bandits split up to climb over the wall behind the mountain, Baolin Temple would have been captured long ago.

While Guan Bo was delayed for so long in the main hall, the bandits were busy cutting down trees to make battering rams to break down the temple gates.

The guarding monks brought in many stones to block the temple gate, but dared not do anything more and could only wait for the bandits outside to make their move.

"What a bunch of idiots! Even if they're too scared to go out, they could at least stand on the wall and throw some stones." Guan Bo utterly despised the monks' courage. If they just wait like this, how could they possibly defeat the numerous and powerful bandits once the temple gates are breached?

Guan Bo slammed his heavy halberd, weighing a thousand pounds, down in front of the crowd, causing the ground to tremble. The monk soldiers looked at Guan Bo, and intimidated by his imposing presence, none of them dared to utter a sound for a moment.

"Everyone's stunned. Now someone who can breathe, tell me how many bandits are outside, what's the situation?" Guan Bo shouted.

This loud shout woke up the monks who usually only bullied the weak and feared the strong.

The monks looked at each other, and after a while, one of them, who seemed a little bolder, replied, "There are probably over a thousand bandits outside the gate. Although they look like a rabble, they are not to be trifled with."

Thousands? Guan Bo was also a little surprised when he heard this number.

He simply walked to the courtyard wall, planted the halberd upside down in the ground, and pierced a three-foot-deep hole in the bluestone slab. Under the shocked gazes of the monk soldiers, Guan Bo climbed the long pole and looked over the ten-foot-high enclosure.

A densely packed group of ragged bandits, armed with hastily cobbled-together weapons, hurled vulgar insults. The slightly better-off might have a relatively intact set of clothes and a gleaming machete; the worse-off were left with only their underwear, wielding long spears carved from bamboo; the worst were left with only strips of cloth covering their genitals, grabbing a rock and throwing it into the temple.

Surprisingly, the one that fared the worst actually had the best output effect; at least the walls and gates were smashed with several small dents.

However, Guan Bo roughly counted them and found that there were thousands of people there, but at most there were less than three hundred, which was not much more than the number of monk soldiers in the temple. They were just scaring themselves.

Despite having more training, better equipment, and superior physical abilities than their opponents, they were forced to remain confined to this temple.

"A general is the courage of his soldiers." Guan Bo finally understood why the abbot relied on Yongxin despite his numerous misdeeds.

It turns out that he was the only one in Baolin Temple who could be considered a general, capable of leading these cowardly monk soldiers to defeat the mountain bandits.

"Evil people are not entirely without merit, but they cannot be whitewashed into good people just because they have a few good points."

Guan Bo silently straightened his values, and then said to the monk soldiers, "Move the stones aside, and I will lead you to fight off the mountain bandits."

Upon hearing this, the monk soldiers were greatly surprised and hurriedly tried to stop him.

But Guan Bo only drew his halberd, swung it and chopped a tree, splitting the thick, welcoming pine tree in two, and then said: "Disobedient ones will be punished like this tree."

This time, no one dared to object anymore.

Several monks moved the stones blocking the entrance and then opened the temple gate.

"Those who still consider themselves men, follow me." Guan Bo swaggered out, carrying his halberd. The monk soldiers behind him hesitated for a moment, but about a dozen followed him.

The remaining eighty-odd people all huddled behind the courtyard wall, and even after Guan Bo and the others went out, they immediately closed the gate again and blocked it with stones.

Guan Bo ignored their cowardly reactions and walked to within ten feet of the bandits, shouting, "Someone who can talk, come here!"

A burly, dark-skinned man with hair on his chest and a face full of scars came out from the bandits' side. He was holding a large cleaver in one hand and gnawing on a piece of meat with bone in the other.

"Who the hell are you, you bastard? How dare you try to play tricks on me?" the burly man shouted, pointing at Guan Bo.

"Stop talking nonsense. I'll give you a chance. If you back down now, you'll still have a way out. Otherwise, my halberd won't listen to reason." Guan Bo replied.

"Haha, do you know what happened to the last person who talked to me like that?" the big man laughed loudly.

"Oh, what happened to him?" Guan Bo asked, following up on his question.

The burly man threw the meat bone in his hand at Guan Bo, who frowned and dodged it. This kind of dirty stuff was more dreadful than any hidden weapon.

"Chicken out? This is that guy's son's arm. I ate his whole family, and my men even played with his wife to death. Do you want to end up like him?" the big man said smugly.

Guan Bo then took a closer look at the so-called fleshy bone, and it turned out to be an infant's arm, which looked to be no more than a year old.

An overwhelming rage surged within him; even when Yongxin had killed Lao Qingniu, he had never felt such fury. Familiar scenes flashed before his eyes, as if Guan Bo had witnessed such horrific acts somewhere before.

"You beast! You don't deserve to live in this world!" Guan Bo roared, ignoring the fact that the bandits were numerous and powerful, and threw the halberd at the big man.

The two were originally about ten zhang apart, but Guan Bo's strength was immense, and the short distance was covered in an instant. The burly man hurriedly raised his knife to block, but only saw a black flash of lightning before he was sent flying, his large cleaver shattering into pieces.

The burly man was sent flying into the bandits by the halberd, knocking down dozens of them before the impact was absorbed.

Before he could get up, Guan Bo caught up and stepped on his chest, killing him instantly.

Guan Bo spat at the corpse and cursed, "Another cannibalistic bastard!"

Guan Bo, still furious, stomped on the man's head until it was crushed, but then asked in surprise, "Why did I say 'again'?"

Stepping over the blood-stained ground, Guan Bo picked up the halberd and looked back to find that none of the bandits dared to stand in his way.

"Those who kneel and surrender will be spared!" Guan Bo swung his halberd, and the strong wind made the nearby bandits squint.

Such majesty is unparalleled.

High above, deep in the clouds, an old monk watched the scene unfold before him, holding a simple, ancient mirror that reflected Guan Bo's face.

There are two seal characters on the back of this mirror—"Negative Mirror"!

"No good person stands before the Mirror of Retribution," is a saying from the underworld, meaning that everyone in the world has sins, no matter how small, and these sins will be reflected on the Mirror of Retribution.

However, at this moment, Guan Bo was completely clear-headed and without a trace of sin.

"Indeed, even when killing, one is not tainted by any sin," the old monk remarked.
