Chapter 81 Going to the Underworld

Guan Bo's idea was simple: Bai Huaxiu felt that Kui Mulang didn't love her because she had forgotten her past life.

In this situation, all that's needed is to help her regain her memory. If the couple is loving and devoted to each other, all problems will be solved.

After Baihua Xiu regains her memories, she probably won't want to be the Empress Dowager of a mortal kingdom anymore. At that time, let her go to Baoxiang Kingdom to give a few instructions, and that will be the end of the matter.

Then Tang Sanzang and his party could continue their journey westward, and Guan Bo's test would be considered complete.

However, regaining memories is not an easy task for the average person.

The Meng Po soup washes away memories of past lives, and its potency is absolutely top-notch, after all, it has been officially certified by the underworld over the years.

As far as Guan Bo knew, the only thing that could restore memories of past lives was the Three Lives Stone.

At other times, Guan Bo wouldn't have anywhere to look for the Three Lives Stone, but not long ago, he made a bet with the Black and White Impermanence and won two rounds.

At the time, they were only concerned about the lives of Baiwa'er and Nie Shuhuan, so they only asked for a bowl of Meng Po soup, and they hadn't even collected the bets for the second round yet.

It's a good opportunity to go to the underworld and retrieve the Three Lives Stone, which will help Baihuaxiu regain her memories.

Every sip and bite seems preordained; Guan Bo could only marvel at his good fortune.

"You mean, you want to go to the underworld?" Kui Mulang frowned upon hearing his words.

“Of course, this is the best way,” Guan Bo said confidently. “But how are you going to get to the underworld?” Kui Mulang asked.

“Of course… Damn, this is a real problem.” Guan Bo was jolted awake by Kui Mulang’s words.

Don't be fooled by the fact that Monkey King in Journey to the West can go to the underworld so easily. Ordinary monsters don't have that ability to enter and exit the netherworld.

Guan Bo couldn't possibly slit his own throat for a Three Lives Stone. Although Kui Mulang was a good man, he wasn't so great as to sacrifice himself for others.

"Does the underworld have no entrance in the mortal realm?" Guan Bo asked.

"Anyway, I've never heard of it." Kui Mulang's answer shattered Guan Bo's hopes.

"What can I do? I can't just kill myself and go to the underworld," Guan Bo said helplessly.

Kui Mulang hesitated for a long time before gritting his teeth and saying, "For the sake of my wife, I will send you to the underworld, but you will have to come back on your own."

Guan Bo believed this. Kui Mulang was a celestial being, so it was normal for him to have a way to go to the underworld. To him, it was just a matter of visiting different departments.

"I will pass on a mantra to you. When I take you to the underworld later, remember to repeat it silently in your heart, otherwise your soul will be invaded by the yin energy of the underworld and become a wandering ghost. You stay here and memorize the mantra. I will be right back," Kui Mulang reminded him.

Upon hearing that this concerned his life, Guan Bo naturally made sure to remember it with all his might.

Fortunately, this mnemonic isn't long and is easy to memorize.

Before long, after reciting it fluently, Kui Mulang returned, this time with a radiant bead in his hand.

He grabbed Guan Bo and shouted, "Let's go!"

A ball of azure light emanated from the bead, enveloping both demons. Soon, Guan Bo felt his body weaken, as if he had turned into a wisp of smoke.

Immediately afterwards, Guan Bo felt his feet sinking into the ground, as if his whole body was being unable to support him.

"Quickly recite the incantation, or it will be too late later," Kui Mulang reminded him.

Guan Bo dared not slack off and immediately began reciting the mnemonic.

Then the two demons truly turned into wisps of green smoke and disappeared into the ground.

Guan Bo felt a chill all over his body. Layers of mud and rocks flew past his eyes. He didn't know how much earth he had passed through before the view suddenly opened up.

A wave of heat swept over him, making Guan Bo feel a little more comfortable. His vision was filled with a vibrant red light. Looking down, he saw a vast ocean of lava, which didn't look like the underworld, but rather like one of the layers of hell.

Guan Bo also noticed that within that bright crimson expanse, there seemed to be a tiny black dot. The dot was too far away from Guan Bo; from a distance, it only resembled a black lotus flower.

The next moment, Guan Bo felt his feet become unsteady and his whole body began to fall.

This was terrible; below lay magma that had been boiling for who knows how many years. Guan Bo was so frightened that his whole body went limp. If he fell into the magma, he didn't know if his panda skin would withstand the heat.

Kui Mulang quickly controlled the bead, which once again generated a halo of light to stabilize the two illusory figures. He said awkwardly, "It's been too long since I've been to the Underworld. I accidentally wandered into this Earth Core Fire Cave. Hang in there a little longer, we'll be there soon."

Changing direction, Kui Mulang once again led Guan Bo through rocks and stones, arriving at a cold and gloomy place.

There were no sun, moon, or stars, only an endless expanse of yellow; the light of this world actually came from the ground.

The two ethereal figures slowly floated down until they reached the hazy yellow light. Guan Bo then saw the light shrink back into the pearl as if it had a life of its own, and only then did Guan Bo feel grounded.

But this solid ground also makes people feel very uncomfortable. Because the ground is not actually "solid," stepping on it feels like quicksand, and you sink straight down.

"I can only take you this far. This is the Road to the Underworld. Follow the direction of the quicksand, and you will reach the Bridge of Helplessness. Then, just find a ghost messenger and ask him."

After saying this, Kui Mulang ran away without looking back, even faster than when he came, as if something was chasing him.

Guan Bo didn't care. As long as he found the Black and White Impermanence, it shouldn't be too difficult to get them to help send him back to the mortal world.

The road to the underworld is difficult to travel; it's less of a road and more of an endless desert.

In this dark world, only the yellow sand beneath one's feet seems to emit a faint light. The Road to the Underworld, composed entirely of yellow sand, has no east, west, north, or south directions; the only way to discern direction is by the direction of the shifting sand beneath one's feet.

If you walk in the direction of the flowing sand, you can slowly rise up. If you walk against the direction, you will soon sink into the quicksand. Even if you stand still, you will still sink in.

Clearly, the Road to the Underworld is meant to guide you along the sand, along the flowing yellow sand like a river, into the underworld.

Guan Bo didn't know what was beneath the quicksand, but he wasn't curious enough to try it out, so he just followed the sand flow.

The road to the underworld was too wide and too long. After walking for half a day, I didn't see anything except myself. Just as I was worried about how far the road ahead was, I saw two green lights appear in front of me.

Regardless of what that green light was, after Kui Mulang sent Guan Bo to the Yellow Springs, he fled as if he were being chased.

But no matter how fast or slow he rushed, Kui Mulang had barely arrived in the underworld when he had already alarmed someone in the netherworld.
