We bear people have power

Chapter 56 The Death Slayer Has Arrived

"Please let me go home for one night, please!" The little girl struggled desperately, the rope digging into her flesh. But no matter how loudly she cried out, none of the villagers paid any attention.

Lingxiu wanted to save the person, but Guan Bo and Gongsun Jing disagreed, so she could only watch helplessly from the sidelines.

The moon was high in the sky, and it was almost midnight. Only two unlucky souls remained on guard. Gongsun Jing used a trick, and the four of them watched from a distance, none of them wanting to miss the truth.

Looking at the bright moon in the sky, the little girl became even more anxious. But Master Liaoyi had added a spell to the rope, and no matter how much she struggled, she couldn't break free.

It wasn't until the two guards started to doze off that they saw a hunched, dark figure quietly approach and untie the little girl with a small knife. It turned out to be the old woman the little girl had brought her leftovers during the day. Master Liaoyi's talisman was only effective against demons, but useless against mortals.

Taking advantage of the guard's inattention, the old man and the child left the altar.

Guan Bo and the others quickly followed, and they heard the old woman say, "Baowa, that village chief is going to be struck by lightning and harm you. I'll take you away right now."

This time I learned that the little girl's name was Baiwa'er, which suited her snow-white skin very well.

But then Baiwa said, "Grandma, I can't leave. I want to go home."

"Silly child, he's going to burn you to death, why would you go back?"

"I have to go back to save Brother Yezi, or it will be too late." As soon as he finished speaking, Baiwa ran off, stumbling and crawling. He looked a bit disheveled, but even when he tripped and fell while running, he kept tumbling and crawling forward.

His anxious expression suggested that he would miss something important if he was even a fraction of a second late.

Guan Bo and his group followed closely behind, returning directly to the village chief's house.

At this time, the village chief was also having sleepless nights. The villagers' words kept him tossing and turning, but he was helpless. His time as village chief was truly over, but he had no way to change it.

"It's all that wicked man's fault! He should have been thrown into the well and drowned back then!" the village chief cursed viciously.

Just then, the person who was cursing Baiwa'er arrived home.

The wooden door creaked open, and the village chief got out of bed, only to see Baiwa'er.

"You jinx, you dare to run away?" The village chief, filled with resentment, grabbed a vine and lashed it at Baiwa'er.

The little girl endured it and didn't resist; she just ran desperately into the inner room.

The village chief chased after them in a fit of rage, and the two ran all the way to the innermost part of the house.

It was a dark room, seemingly perpetually shrouded in darkness. A thin, hunched figure lay on the bed. Baiwa'er saw him and, without hesitation, rushed over and nudged him, saying, "Brother Yezi, wake up!"

A glimmer of light seemed to appear in the dimness, and the hunched figure opened a pair of bright eyes.

"Hey, Xiaobai, you're back?" It was a male voice, but it sounded weak and feeble, like a candle flame that might go out at any moment.

Before the two could exchange more than a few words, the village chief rushed in again, and a vine fell down on their heads.

The hunchbacked boy, with an unknown strength, hugged the white baby and used his bony hands to block the vines.

While protecting the little girl, he cried, "Daddy, don't hit Xiaobai. She's very well-behaved. Hit me instead."

The little girl and the hunchbacked boy cried together, but the village chief showed no sign of stopping.

Seeing this, Guan Bo decided not to stand by any longer. Even if the little girl really was a demon, he had only seen her kindness to people, so how could he bear to continue watching her suffer?

After all this heart-wrenching suffering, if the protagonist doesn't do something, he's not worthy of being the main character.

Guan Bo casually pointed and secretly released his innate supernatural power. The village chief lashed out with a vine at the boy, but felt a sharp pain in the back of his hand and couldn't even hold onto the vine anymore.

This was Guan Bo who reversed their sense of pain, making the village chief reap what he sowed.

"You monster, you dare to use sorcery! You just wait!" The village chief clutched his arm and ran out of the room.

Lingxiu had been waiting for this moment, and she rushed over. The radiance of the Azure Dragon Sword illuminated the room. Countless life energies converged on the white-haired boy and the hunchbacked youth.

The thin, pale boy's face regained some color, and the wounds he had just inflicted were fading. But Baiwa'er screamed loudly as if he had been scalded by boiling oil.

"Xiaobai, what's wrong with you? Don't hurt Xiaobai, she's very well-behaved." The boy hugged the little girl frantically, afraid that she would be hurt again.

Lingxiu was shocked and had no choice but to quickly withdraw her magic.

Gongsun Jing explained, "She is a demon formed from corpse bones. Treating her is like burning her with fire."

"Is she really a monster?" Lingxiu asked, her eyes wide.

"Although Master Liaoyi's skills were not up to par, his Five Thunder Orthodox Method could command the mountain gods and local deities, and the true form he revealed was genuine," Gongsun Jing sighed.

Guan Bo, however, didn't feel anything. So what if it's a monster? It's not like it's some highly contagious terminal illness.

“You don’t need to be afraid. I’m here to uphold justice for you. Why are you, little monster, mixing with mortals?” Guan Bo asked.

Baiwa answered timidly, "A few months ago, I fainted by the roadside and was almost eaten by wild dogs. It was Brother Yezi who saved me. Although he is disabled, he has a very kind heart, so I stayed to repay him."

After Baiwa recounted the past in detail, everyone sighed with emotion.

The hunched-over boy lying on the bed was named Nie Shuhuan. He was the village chief's only son, born when he was fifty, for whom his wife had died in childbirth. Unfortunately, Nie Shuhuan was born with a disability; his bones were crooked even in the womb. He could only crawl around hunched over. The village chief, ashamed of him, kept him locked up at home most of the time.

Having been cooped up for too long that day, Nie Shuhuan secretly ran away from home. Not daring to go to any crowded places, he headed up the mountain. Unexpectedly, he encountered Baiwa'er, who was unconscious and being attacked by several wild dogs.

Although Nie Shuhuan was disabled, he did not flinch. He threw a few stones to scare away the wild dogs and rescued Baiwa'er. The village chief saw that the girl was pretty and guessed that his son would not be able to find a wife, so he raised her as a child bride. However, he often scolded and beat her, treating Baiwa'er like a slave.

Nie Shuhuan treated Baiwa'er extremely well. He always protected her when she was beaten, and he hid his own food for her when she was hungry. No wonder Baiwa'er stayed by his side even though she knew she would be burned to death the next day.

This is a typical plot from Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, but Guan Bo then asked, "I see that your demonic power is not bad, so how did you end up being bullied by wild dogs?"

"I...I don't know, I don't remember anything from before. Besides, I only found out recently that I was actually a fairy." As she spoke, Baiwa'er started crying sadly.

Guan Bo's expression upon hearing this was like this: ( ̄▽ ̄“)

"How incredibly audacious! They don't even know they're demons. Guan Bo is truly impressed. "So, the disappearance of birds and beasts within dozens of miles—was that the trouble you caused?"

"I...I don't know either." Baiwa'er said hesitantly, probably because she wasn't sure if it was related to her.

I thought that going up Mount Luojia to just eat and wait to die was already a disgrace to the demons, but today I've met a demon who's even more unreliable than myself.

"Then why did you rush back just now, saying you were going to save someone? Could it be that the village chief is going to kill your son?"

As soon as Guan Bo finished speaking, the sound of chains being dragged came clearly, and everyone felt a chill run down their spines.

Baiwa wiped away her tears and said to Guan Bo, "They're here! They've come to take Ye Zi's life!"
