We bear people have power
Chapter 53 It's Not Your Fault You're Ugly
Guan Bo looked at the villagers who kept gathering around him and said with a smile to Master Yi, "Does this master mean that I am a monster?"
His calm demeanor made the villagers a little hesitant, after all, Guan Bo looked completely like a human, without any of the strange features of a monster.
Master Liaoyi couldn't actually be certain that Guan Bo was a demon, because the compass needle was only trembling slightly. This could mean either a demon had just begun absorbing the essence of heaven and earth and hadn't even developed any intelligence yet. If it were a fully-formed demon who had survived the heavenly tribulation, its demonic power would be enough to burst the entire compass, or it would completely conceal its aura, making it undetectable.
But Master Liaoyi couldn't back down in front of the villagers, so he could only pretend to be profound and say, "Whether it is or not, we'll know once we try."
Guan Bo crossed his arms and asked with great interest, "How does the master intend to test it?"
Master Liaoyi looked at Guan Bo, who remained as still as a mountain, and his eyes became suspicious.
Even a normal person, knowing they are being framed, should show some tension and anger. But Guan Bo was far too calm, as if he were watching a play.
"If you dare to try, put a drop of your blood into this bottle."
Master Liaoyi took out a small bottle, about the size of a thumb, from his bosom. It was made of white jade and looked quite valuable.
"If you are human, your blood will not change when it is dripped into the bottle. But if you are a monster, your blood will contain a lot of demonic energy, and the bottle will turn purplish-black."
Master Liaoyi had one more thing to say: the deeper the color, the stronger the demonic energy. If it only had some black patterns, Master Liaoyi was confident he could handle it; but if the entire bottle turned purplish-black, he would run for his life. As for the villagers, he would leave them to their own devices.
Guan Bo took the bottle, but didn't sense any spiritual energy fluctuations. However, it felt warm and smooth to the touch, making it a rare gem among jade.
"Well, I can't just bite it with my teeth, can I? Do you have a knife?" Guan Bo asked the villagers.
With a series of whoosh, a row of sickles, machetes, and kitchen knives appeared, all aimed at Guan Bo.
Guan Bo thought to himself that if he didn't agree to the test, these knives would probably be used to stab him.
Guan Bo chose the smallest dagger, pricked a small hole in his fingertip, and squeezed out a drop of blood to drip onto the bottle.
Then Guan Bo didn't even look at the result, threw the dagger on the ground and left.
Master Liaoyi took the bottle, muttered a few incantations, and then saw the bottle radiate light. Instead of the usual purplish-black color, large patches of golden patterns appeared. These golden patterns intertwined and covered the entire bottle.
"This...this..." Master Liaoyi was stunned for a long time, unable to utter a complete sentence.
Seeing that something was wrong, the old village chief quickly asked, "Master, what does this golden pattern mean? Is it a demon?"
After a long silence, Master Liaoyi finally managed to utter a single sentence: "No, it's not a monster."
Guan Bo was naturally unafraid of testing, because he had already confirmed that after the demon core mutated into a robe, he was a pure-blooded human in his human form. No matter how you tested him, you wouldn't be able to detect any demonic energy in him.
What he didn't know was that ever since he cultivated the cultivation technique left behind by the Black Bear Spirit, his bloodline had begun to contain Buddhist magical power. That's why Guan Bo's blood, when it fell into the bottle, displayed this golden phenomenon.
Upon seeing the golden light, Master Liaoyi immediately assumed that Guan Bo was a virtuous and eminent monk, otherwise, his blood could not possibly contain such profound Buddhist power. As for the demonic aura reaction, it was even more understandable; eminent Buddhist monks were either currently subduing demons or on their way to do so, so it was perfectly normal for them to be tainted with some demonic energy.
As for why the high monk is not bald and wears a monastic robe instead of a kasaya, that is not a question he should be pondering.
Aren't you just a jack-of-all-trades, master of none, so don't laugh at others for not having the demeanor of a high monk?
However, after misunderstanding Guan Bo's identity, Master Liaoyi was finally reassured. No matter how powerful the monsters causing trouble in the village were, this "high monk" would be a good helper.
If anything unexpected happens, even if the sky falls, there are tall people to hold it up.
Thinking this way, Master Liaoyi's ambition grew even higher, and his confident demeanor became even more pronounced than before.
Guan Bo watched for a while, then got surrounded by people again, before returning to the village chief's house to continue eating. Except for Xiong Shanjun, who looked utterly aggrieved, everyone was quite satisfied with the meal.
The young girl he had met earlier was quickly clearing away the dishes, but Guan Bo was thinking to himself whether he should find a way to take her away, otherwise it would be a real waste to leave her skills in this remote mountain village.
Just then, the village chief rushed in with a group of people.
Master Liaoyi was still surrounded by villagers in the middle, and followed the village chief into the house.
"Master, look closely, how could there be a monster here?" the village chief said, trembling.
Master Liaoyi didn't speak, but stared intently at the broken needle on the compass. While searching for the source of the demonic energy along the way, Master Liaoyi noticed that the closer they got to the village chief's house, the more the compass needle trembled.
The moment he stepped inside, the little magical artifact he had crafted exploded with a "crack".
Without a doubt, the monsters are inside this thatched hut, and it's estimated that they are several powerful monsters.
Master Liaoyi was initially apprehensive, but upon entering and seeing Guan Bo, he breathed a sigh of relief. With this "high monk" present, the monster would certainly not be allowed to run rampant.
However, when Master Liaoyi looked at the room full of people, he was dumbfounded.
Besides Guan Bo, there are four others in total. The compass is already broken, and it's unknown which one is the monster.
Master Liaoyi first bowed to Guan Bo, then exclaimed, "Amitabha Buddha, so you are here too. This makes things much easier."
This neither-monk-nor-Taoist behavior made Gongsun Jing and Lingxiu burst into laughter.
Master Liaoyi ignored all of that and looked directly at the other four people. The three girls were all beautiful, while the only one was a big man with small eyes and a bulbous nose, looking like a vicious person who would devour someone.
But Master Liaoyi was a shrewd man after all, so he didn't speak, but simply said, "I followed the traces of demonic energy here. Although that demon can transform into human form, there must be some clues to be found. But in this house, who looks like a demon?"
These words weren't directed at the villagers, but rather at Guan Bo. The hope was that this "high monk" would offer a way out, and the two of them could then work together to flatter each other and both benefit.
As soon as he said that, all the villagers turned their attention to Xiong Shanjun.
When Xiongshanjun saw this, his temper flared up. He'd already ruined his meal, and with two demons in the house, why was he the only one being stared at?
"Damn it! Which eye of yours sees me as a monster?!" Xiong Shanjun roared.
The villagers looked at each other, all thinking: No matter which eye you look at it from, you look the most like a monster.
Guan Bo didn't even need mind reading to know what everyone was thinking, and couldn't help but sigh, "Old Xiong, it's not wrong for you to be ugly, but it's wrong for you to go out and scare people."
If Xiong Shanjun hadn't become Gongsun Jing's mount, he would have fought Guan Bo over that one sentence, but at this moment he could only sulk in silence.
Master Liaoyi took a look and realized that the big man was actually familiar with the "high monk," so it seemed that he was just really ugly and not a monster in disguise.
His eyes darted around, and when he saw Gongsun Jing and Lingxiu's positions, he knew that they were companions of Guan Bo.
Could it be that the little girl clearing the dishes is a monster?
