We bear people have power
Chapter 14 The Prerequisites for Reasoning
The force was impressive; Guan Bo's palm struck with a whooshing sound, capable of shattering even a rock.
However, this Buddha's bear paw was straightforward and without any variation, and in the end, it was just that the Great King of Inspiration hit it with one more hammer blow.
But Guan Bo was not discouraged and kept hitting Linggan Dawang with palm strikes.
If the King of Inspiration had decisively fled from the beginning, there would have been a considerable chance of him escaping.
But his hatred for Guan Bo was boundless. Thinking that his combat experience was enough to crush Guan Bo, he wanted to take advantage of the absence of heavenly lightning to smash Guan Bo into mincemeat.
Unfortunately, like the tragic heroine, he guessed the beginning but not the ending.
Relying on his protective robes, Guan Bo was completely unafraid of Linggan Dawang's bronze hammer. Every time he was knocked away, Guan Bo would quickly fly back, full of energy.
A pair of fleshy palms would strike the King of Inspiration whenever they found an opportunity. Although they missed most of the time, occasionally a palm strike would make the King of Inspiration spit out a few mouthfuls of blood.
The more Inspiration King fought, the more alarmed he became. Although the Nine-Petal Lotus Hammer had lost its protective function, its power had not diminished at all.
Guan Bo had taken so many blows; even an iron mountain would have crumbled long ago. But looking at Guan Bo, he seemed to get more and more energetic as the fight went on.
This level of strength, even if not as great as the indestructible body of the Monkey King, is not far off.
"How can this guy be so resilient?!" The Inspiration King felt like he was dealing with a giant piece of chewing gum, and once he got stuck, he would have to peel off a layer of skin, but now he just couldn't shake it off.
Before long, the King of Inspiration felt powerless and had the idea of fleeing.
Guan Bo, on the other hand, became increasingly adept at the fight, relentlessly attacking without any reservations, which led to a rapid increase in his strength. If combat experience could be quantified numerically, Guan Bo's level had risen from single digits to five digits, and was about to break into six digits.
Faced with the bronze hammer wielded by the King of Inspiration, Guan Bo was able to dodge one or two out of ten blows, and wouldn't be knocked away in one move.
Unfortunately, Guan Bo has never learned any combat spells, or rather, he only knows how to cast wind spells and healing spells.
Based solely on his fabricated "Buddha's Bear Paw," even if the Great King Linggan were to be beaten like a target, it would still take thousands upon thousands of blows to kill this Golden Scale Demon.
The two demons fought as they flew, covering a distance of over a thousand miles.
I don't know how many forests we passed through or how many seas we crossed, but I saw the changing seasons, as if we had gone from warm spring to late autumn.
The cries of monkeys are incessant here, and thousands of birds chirp softly. It is a beautiful place with clear waters and bright mountains, like a blessed land or a secret paradise.
Guan Bo, however, had no interest in appreciating it.
He had been entangled with the Great King of Inspiration all along, and now he was able to fight the great demon to a standstill.
King Linggan was nearing the end of his demonic power, and his copper hammer was now wielded haphazardly.
Just as Guan Bo was about to seize the opportunity to capture the carp spirit, he saw the ferocious demon rush into the forest below.
The copper hammer swept across, destroying large swathes of trees and killing countless creatures in the mountains and forests.
A monkey screamed in agony, a bird cried out in alarm, and the blurry flesh and blood were sucked into the mouth of the Inspiration King.
Then Guan Bo saw that the Inspiration King's body swelled up again as if inflated, and its speed increased significantly.
When the King of Inspiration raised his copper hammer and smashed it down on him again, Guan Bo felt a sweet taste in his throat and almost spat out a mouthful of blood.
The Inspiration King suddenly unleashed a power several times stronger than before, and Guan Bo immediately fell into a disadvantageous position.
Guan Bo wanted to dodge, but this kind of magic, which was like a last burst of energy before death, could not last long. As long as he dodged, he would still have a chance.
But how could the King of Inspiration give him such an opportunity? He was determined to kill him on the spot.
At this critical moment, a golden light suddenly appeared on the unknown cliff.
Guan Bo didn't know how to describe the brilliance of the moment; he only felt that there was no other light in the world that was so breathtaking.
With all his might, Guan Bo saw a giant golden club stretching across the sky.
At first they were quite far away, but before Guan Bo could react, they were already beside him.
The boundless pressure seemed to Guan Bo as nothing could stand in the way of this giant club; everything would be reduced to dust.
Terrified, Guan Bo involuntarily closed his eyes, channeling all his demonic power into his robes, hoping to find a sliver of hope in the face of this giant club.
After waiting for a long time without feeling any impact, Guan Bo opened his eyes.
The blink of an eye felt like an entire century had passed.
Where was the golden giant club now? And the critically injured and dying King Linggan was nowhere to be seen either.
The world was a vast and clear expanse, and apart from myself, there was only emptiness, which was quite unclean.
But when Guan Bo looked up again, he saw a round hole in the layers of white clouds in the sky.
The wispy clouds gathered into vortexes with the still-lingering turbulent air, and a moment later, a light rain began to fall.
The power of that single blow was so great that it caused the heavens to weep and even ghosts and gods to flee. Guan Bo instantly understood which great person had made the move on the mountain peak.
Before Guan Bo could go to pay his respects, a yellow cloud rose from the mountain peak and arrived in front of Guan Bo in the blink of an eye.
"Who do we have here? It's you, you rascal. Why aren't you cultivating in the Bodhisattva's Purple Bamboo Grove? Why have you come to my Flower and Fruit Mountain territory instead?"
A golden-haired monkey with a thunderous mouth is perched on a cloud. Who else could it be but the Great Sage Equal to Heaven?
Guan Bo hadn't recovered from that earth-shattering blow, and only asked the Great Sage in a dreamlike voice, "That fish demon..."
"After taking one of my old Sun's blows, you're probably dead." The Great Sage picked at his ear, blew on his finger, and said disdainfully.
Guan Bo swallowed hard and took several deep breaths to calm his shocked state of mind.
The monster that I fought so hard against was killed by the Great Sage with a single blow. The difference in skill level was really disheartening.
After finally calming down, Guan Bo finally spoke, "Great Sage, how did you recognize me? I've already transformed into human form."
“My fiery eyes can see through you at a glance. Even if you turn to ashes… oh, no, even if you turn to ashes, I might not recognize you. A monk doesn’t lie; I should be able to recognize you unless you turn to ashes,” the Great Sage said carefully, choosing his words.
Guan Bo couldn't help but sigh, "The Great Sage is indeed a very genuine person."
Because what they said was truly impressive, not just bragging.
However, amidst his reflections, Guan Bo suddenly noticed a problem.
"Wait, Great Sage, you're saying this is the territory of Flower Fruit Mountain?"
"Of course, do you think I, Old Sun, don't even recognize my own home?" The Great Sage rolled his eyes at Guan Bo.
"But, Great Sage, weren't you supposed to be protecting Tang Sanzang on his journey to the West to retrieve the scriptures?"
The Great Sage said coldly, "If we don't mention this, I, Old Sun, will still consider you my friend."
Guan Bo swallowed again, because a strong killing intent had enveloped him. If he continued to ask questions, the golden cudgel would probably come crashing down on him.
Guan Bo then remembered that in the Journey to the West story, the Great Sage was banished by Tang Sanzang for a period of time because of his three battles with the White Bone Demon.
Could it be that while I've only been on Mount Luojia for a short time, the Great Sage has already protected Tang Sanzang and traveled this far?
Guan Bo changed the subject, saying, "I was very grateful for the Great Sage's help just now; otherwise, it would have taken me a lot more effort to kill that fish demon."
"No need to thank me. I only intervened because I saw that monster destroying my forests and injuring my monkey grandchildren. But you, you hesitated and looked back when you were fighting. If it weren't for the sturdiness of your precious clothes, you would have been hammered to death by that monster long ago," the Great Sage commented incisively.
Guan Bo was helpless; compared to the Great Sage, his own skills were indeed lacking.
“There are many creatures on this mountain. I have heard the Bodhisattva preach the scriptures, but I am afraid of harming innocent people,” Guan Bo answered honestly.
"What the Bodhisattva said isn't entirely correct. If it were me, Old Sun, I'd fight first and then worry about whether they're innocent or not," the Great Sage said domineeringly.
"But, Great Sage, didn't you just say that you intervened because that fish demon was indiscriminately killing innocent people? What if I also hurt the spirit monkey..."
“Then naturally I’ll give you a whack too,” the Great Sage said matter-of-factly.
Guan Bo: "..."
When the Great Sage saw Guan Bo's embarrassed expression, he laughed and said, "What? Do you think I, Old Sun, am being unreasonable?"
Guan Bo: "..."
No matter what he said at that moment, Guan Bo felt that he was getting closer and closer to the golden cudgel.
"You rascal, are you really a monster? You act like some naive young lady who's never seen the world. These days, what's the point of seeking immortality or cultivating Taoism? In the end, isn't it just about being able to reason when you want to, and resorting to fists when you don't?"
"If you want to do good, you must first have the ability to do evil. Why does Buddhism like to convert evil people? Because even if they convert good people, they can't do much good. In the end, they can only regulate themselves, but they can't save the world."
"The Buddha understands this principle better than anyone else. Otherwise, why would he have suppressed me, Old Sun, for five hundred years and forced me to bow down and admit defeat? It is because even though I, Old Sun, have a hundred faults, my staff can sweep away a thousand evils."
The Great Sage's words were somewhat poignant, but they lacked a cigarette, making them feel somewhat incomplete.
Guan Bo understood, just like a joke from later generations: Why do you insist on exercising?
It's to make idiots willing to reason with me properly.
Guan Bo didn't want to understand such mind-blowing remarks for the time being. Taking advantage of the moment when the Great Sage was reminiscing about the past, he quickly said, "Great Sage, I have a favor to ask of you. I hope you can do me another favor."
