Leisurely mountain village

Chapter 8 Parents Return

"Come back first. I may be old, but I'm not stupid. Why would my grandson try to fool me? You'll all know when you get back. Honestly, I've never seen anyone talk so badly about their own son. I'm hanging up." The grandfather hung up the phone with an air of dominance.

Ye Huan's parents were left standing there, bewildered in the wind, carrying their groceries.

"Did the old man say anything?" Ye Huan's father asked.

"Let's go back. The old man's explanation this time was unclear. What kind of vegetable can sell for 30 yuan a pound?" Ye Huan's mother said, and hurriedly ran forward.

"Hey~ wait for me!! Vegetables, vegetables~ I didn't bring the vegetables!" Ye Huan's dad ran after him.

What Ye Huan didn't know was that his parents gave his grandfather a lecture, packed up overnight, and then boarded the high-speed train back in the early hours of the morning. In the past, they had never been willing to take the high-speed train when returning home for the New Year.

The next morning at six o'clock, Ye Huan was picking vegetables in the vegetable garden at the foot of the back mountain when his parents arrived home.

"You're really selling vegetables? You're not going to work anymore?" were Ye Huan's father's first words.

“Yes, right?” Ye Huan looked up at her parents, whose temples were already streaked with white hair. “It’s good that you’re back. Come and pick some vegetables. There are 200 jin of them.”

Ye Huan's mother spoke harshly, but she actually loved her son the most. She put down her luggage, didn't even change out of her work clothes, and came straight over to pick vegetables.

200 jin isn't a lot, and we quickly picked them and put them in Grandpa's electric tricycle. "Dad, I'll take you to deliver the vegetables. You can take over the rest of the job."

Ye Huan pushed his electric scooter out and followed behind his father's car, heading towards the county town. His mother was asleep at home and had only taken a nap on the scooter during the night.

"Manager Du, this is my father. He'll be delivering the vegetables from now on. I need to stay home and farm," Ye Huan introduced to Manager Du, who came to receive the vegetables.

"Hello, Uncle, thank you for your trouble!" Manager Du said very politely.

"No trouble at all~" Now Ye Huan's father believed his son's words, and he really went back to his hometown to grow vegetables and even found a market for them.

"How much?" "Manager, 206 jin!"

“6180, I’ll transfer the money to you!” Manager Du said.

"No need, 6000 is fine. I'll put some in every day, just in case some get damaged," Ye Huan said. Manager Du looked at him, didn't say anything, nodded, and transferred 6000 yuan.

Ye Huan and his son also took their leave.

"Son, is it really selling for 30 yuan a pound?" Ye Huan's father asked, trembling.

"Didn't you see? I originally said I'd charge 50 yuan per jin, but she said it was too expensive, so let's sell it for 30 yuan for half a year, and then reprice it after the New Year!" Ye Huan nodded, admitting it and no longer pretending.

"My goodness, what kind of vegetable is this? Even the radishes are 30 yuan a pound?"

"Our vegetables are all 30 yuan per jin, regardless of variety," Ye Huan explained.

The two rode their bikes home. Ye Huan's father was still recovering from the shock; it was really hard to digest. Filled with questions, he sat in the yard watching his son cook.

The roe deer meat wasn't marinated after all. I stewed another leg before going out today, and it's bubbling away on the charcoal stove right now. Ye Huan cooked a big pot of rice and then steamed two sections of sausages that were made for the Lunar New Year.

They went to the backyard to pick some vegetables, and by 12 o'clock, Ye Huan's mother had also gotten up, just in time for dinner.

Grandpa came over with a small bottle of tiger bone wine and Saihu. Why did Ye Huan cook so much rice? There wasn't enough to eat. There are four people in the family, plus Saihu and Little White Wolf, and now there's also a pregnant woman, Saihu's wife Xiaohua.

Xiao Hua now comes over with Sai Hu every day to freeload meals, since Ye Huan's family has good food.

"Saihu, I didn't realize you were such a doting husband. Xiaohua made the right choice in marrying you. Here, this is your reward!" Ye Huan mixed a basin of rice for Saihu and his wife, using the broth from stewed roe deer meat, which also contained a lot of scraps of meat.

The little white wolf now has his own little food bowl and is enjoying his meal.

"Grandpa, Mom and Dad, let's eat!" Ye Huan called everyone to eat after finishing her chores.

I poured Grandpa a glass of wine, but I didn't drink any myself. He had nothing to do in the afternoon, but he still had to receive the construction team from town when they came later.

Ye Huan's father didn't drink either. He was exhausted after a long night, and after bringing vegetables back with his son, he was already sleepy. He quickly finished a bowl of rice and went to bed.

Ye Huan's mother then asked the question that had been on her mind all night: "You're really not going out?"

"Yes, it was decided a long time ago. It's good that I'm back so I can spend time with Grandpa. We don't need the money now, and it's no fun being a grandson outside." Ye Huan nodded.

"This vegetable, is it okay??" Ye Huan's mother still couldn't understand. Who would be so kind as to buy vegetables that cost 30 yuan per kilogram?

"Don't worry, but remember this when you're at home: don't spray any pesticides on any of the grains or vegetables. I'm growing purely natural, pollution-free organic vegetables. If I spray pesticides even once, the whole batch will be ruined." Ye Huan wanted to remind them so they wouldn't do something wrong with their good intentions.

"Oh, I see. Aren't you afraid of bugs eating your vegetables?"

"I have a secret recipe, so don't worry about it. The only trouble is picking and delivering vegetables every day. Ask me about everything else," Ye Huan said. Because of the spiritual spring water, there were more insects than before, but he put chickens and ducks in the vegetable garden, and the insects fed the chickens.

"Alright then." Mom stopped asking questions; her son had made something of himself.

Grandpa Ye Huan nodded. This was the attitude a family should have, instead of constant criticism and distrust.

"Grandpa, do you know that old man with the white beard at the clinic in the county town?" Ye Huan asked.

"Yes, we've known each other for a long time. When I used to go hunting in the mountains, I would sell all the better goods to him. Did you see him?" Grandpa nodded.

"Yes, I dug up a wild ginseng root on the mountain before, and I sold it yesterday when I went there," Ye Huan said.

Grandpa didn't realize it was a wild ginseng that was over a hundred years old, since those kinds of things are so rare. "Hmm, ten or twenty years old? How much do I pay you? Those things aren't worth much."

“It’s 140 years old, 450 million. I told him you’re my grandfather, and that’s the price he gave me, saying we know each other very well,” Ye Huan said.

"How many years?" Grandpa asked. "How much money?" Ye Huan's mother asked.

Ye Huan suppressed a laugh. "Heh, I thought you guys didn't care. Now you don't have any intention of going out to work anymore, huh?"

"Yes, it's from 140, and he gave me 450 million!"

Grandpa coughed twice first: "The price is fine, but selling such a good product to that old geezer is too cheap for him."

"Grandpa's fine, we can look for it again later. Besides, didn't he say you have an even better one? He said he's been begging you for decades, but you won't sell it to him," Ye Huan said with a smile.

“That’s a family heirloom that Grandpa left you. Why would you sell it for money? I have plenty of other things. I would never sell this. This could save your life. Keep it safe and don’t sell it,” Grandpa instructed.

"No, I only sold it because I knew Grandpa had some, to make some money, otherwise my parents would have to go out to work."

"It really sold for 450,000?! 10,000?!" Ye Huan's mother was shocked twice in one day.

"Hmm~ I'll transfer some money to you later. Keep it for yourself. We won't be short of money in the future." Ye Huan nodded.

"Okay, I'll save it for you to use when you get married. By the way, since you quit your job, what about your girlfriend? Did you break up with her too?" Ye Huan's mother asked.
