The sick king's bride to bring him good fortune
Chapter 3 What are you doing?
Now is not the time to admire handsome men, Ruan Mozhu silently reminded herself.
She forced herself to look away from the King of Qi's face and looked towards the door to figure out how to escape, thus missing the sudden and then disappearing curve of the corners of the King of Qi's exquisite face.
Ruan Mozhu sneaked to the door of the bridal chamber. She first pressed her ear to the door and listened for a while. When she found that there was no sound, she happily opened the door. But to her surprise, with a "clang", two long swords blocked her way.
"Your Highness," two burly men in guard uniforms stood outside the door, surprisingly silent, and addressed Ruan Mozhu with an honorific, "Where are you going?"
The sharp tip of the sword had just grazed Ruan Mozhu's nose, which had terrified her so much that her legs went weak.
Ruan Mozhu swallowed hard, her face contorted with a mournful laugh, "I'm not going anywhere." She retreated desperately, "I was just nervous because it was my first time in the bridal chamber, so I opened the door to let in some fresh air. I feel much better now, so I'm going in, hehehe." Before she could finish speaking, she slammed the door shut with a "bang."
Leaning against the door, Ruan Mozhu was almost exhausted. She reached out and wiped the cold sweat from her forehead.
Suddenly, Ruan Mozhu heard a faint "plop" sound and looked around in surprise. But the bridal chamber was quiet, with only her and her unconscious, sickly husband besides her. It was as if the sound she had just heard was just a hallucination.
Wait a minute, the unconscious Ruan Mozhu squinted her eyes and stared at the handsome man on the bed. She walked over, squatted down, and patted his face with her hand.
"Hey, Your Highness, are you awake?"
No one answered.
Ruan Mozhu's big eyes darted around. She hadn't even had a chance to eat anything this morning since she ran away, and she was starving.
Her gaze fell on the table in the center of the room. The table was laden with food, and at the front were a wine pot and two small silver cups for drinking from each other's cups.
Without any hesitation, Ruan Mozhu pulled over a stool and plopped down, picked up her chopsticks and started eating, enjoying her meal immensely.
"As expected of food from the Prince's residence, it's incredibly delicious, a million times better than what you get at Zuichunlou!"
As Ruan Mozhu ate and talked, she also secretly glanced at Qi Wang Wei Jingnan on the bed. Hmm, he's not awake at all. I'll just continue eating.
"Look at this duck leg, crispy skin and tender meat! And this shrimp and tofu soup, so smooth and fragrant!"
She ate for a long time, but the person on the bed remained motionless. Ruan Mozhu chewed on her chopsticks, blinking her big eyes, thinking that the other person must really be asleep, otherwise how could someone not react to the stimulation of delicious food?
"Sigh, I'm really unlucky," Ruan Mozhu, having lowered her guard, picked up the wine pot and poured herself a full cup. "I was running away from the wedding quite smoothly, but how did I end up here? I'm not the Princess Consort of Qi." She pouted, looking unhappy. "I ran to this wretched place, with no computer, no cell phone, not even a TV. And I was forced to marry twice in one day. Waaah, I miss home so much."
Ruan Mozhu wiped away the tears brought on by the spiciness of the liquor, and rambled on, already slightly tipsy.
She got up from the stool, ran to Wei Jingnan's bedside, and without caring that the chopsticks were covered in her saliva, poked them at his face.
"Your Highness, you're so handsome," she hiccuped. "Even the most handsome guy in our school isn't as good-looking as you. But no matter how handsome you are, I can't marry you. Marriage is only for those who love each other. So, if you wake up tomorrow and find I've run away, please don't blame me. It wasn't me who pretended to be your bride on purpose; the wedding procession just kept grabbing me and saying I was supposed to marry an old man. Does that mean I actually got the better deal?"
Ruan Mozhu muttered to herself, feeling a little dizzy. She glanced at the seemingly soft bed beneath Wei Jingnan, then without thinking, pushed him to the inside of the bed and lay down casually.
She wasn't worried at all about sleeping in the same bed with a grown man. After all, he was unconscious, and even if he were, he was just a sickly man with paralyzed legs—what could he possibly do?
Ruan Mozhu closed her eyes, her mind hazy as she thought: "I should rest and recharge first. When it's late at night and the guards are less vigilant, my chances of escaping will be much higher."
But as soon as she closed her eyes, she unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
In her sleep, she felt cold, as if her clothes were being pulled away from her body piece by piece.
Not only that, but a pair of particularly cold hands roamed over her body. The warm skin touched this icy touch, which instinctively made her curl up slightly.
In her hazy state, she suddenly heard a low laugh, a sound as melodious as pearls clashing against jade.
Wait, where did that laughter come from?
Ruan Mozhu's brain finally sounded an alarm, and she reflexively opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was a magnified version of a handsome face, and she was immediately stunned.
Looking around, she realized she was still in her original bridal chamber. The sky outside the window was so dark she couldn't see anything. The candlelight flickered inside, and the seemingly harmless, crippled prince was now on top of her, showing no trace of his former disability or sickly appearance.
A pair of hands slowly and deliberately undressed her, continuing without panic even when she was awake, until she was almost left with only a bodice.
"What are you doing?" Ruan Mozhu suddenly realized her situation. Before she could think about why the other person had suddenly become so energetic, she screamed and instinctively kicked the other person.
