Chapter 478 Young Master Liu's Self-Harm

“It might be… a living brain.” Xu Zirui’s throat was dry. “My mentor was conducting an experiment on memory transplantation at the time, and the Snake Doctor Association might have wanted to steal his research results.”

The conference room door was kicked open by Mr. Chen's men, who rushed in holding a hard drive: "Dr. Xu, this was recovered from the manor's server, it's encrypted."

Technicians worked through the night to crack the code, and at 3 a.m., a video popped up on the screen—in the operating room three years ago, the mentor was lying on the operating table, Liu Jinya was standing next to him holding a scalpel, and Wang Mei was holding down the mentor's hands and feet.

"Hand over the research data, and I'll spare your life." Liu Jinya's voice was like a viper's hiss.

The mentor's mouth was taped shut, and he shook his head frantically. Suddenly, Wang Mei injected something, and the mentor's body began to convulse.

"You won't talk, huh?" Liu Jinya sneered. "Then let your research rot in your belly forever."

The video ends here. Xu Zirui clenched his fist, his knuckles turning white, and the coffee cup in his hand was deformed from his grip.

“We checked the overseas accounts, and it turns out to be backed by a biotechnology company. The legal representative is Qin Mo.” Li Gang pointed to the photo on the screen, “That’s the doctor with the gold-rimmed glasses, a core member of the Snake Doctor Association.”

Xu Zirui suddenly remembered something, turned to the last page of the ledger, where a simple map was drawn, with an X marked "Snake Den" and next to it written "Full Moon Night, Sacrifice".

"Tomorrow is the fifteenth." Jiang Xin glanced at the calendar.

"What are they doing?"

"Sacrifice... probably means human experimentation." Xu Zirui felt a chill run down his spine. "Qin Mo is conducting a memory transplant experiment, which requires fresh brain tissue."

Before they could continue their discussion, Liu's guard rushed in: "Something terrible has happened! Young Master Liu has injured himself and is currently being treated!"

When they arrived at the detention cell, Liu Shao was lying on the ground, his wrist wound so deep that the bone was visible, and the cement floor was stained red. He looked at Xu Zirui and suddenly laughed: "I know where the snake's den is... Take me to save my sister, or I'll kill myself."

Xu Zirui looked into his eyes to confirm that it wasn't a fake injury—the wound was located away from the artery, but it was still frightening enough.

"make a deal."

At five in the morning, before dawn, Xu Zirui followed Liu Dashao into the black pine forest. Li Gang and the special police team provided cover from behind. Dew soaked their trouser legs, chilling them to the bone.

“The snake's lair is in the observatory.” Young Master Liu’s wrist was wrapped in bandages, and he frowned as he spoke. “My father goes there every year on the night of the full moon, saying it’s to offer sacrifices to the ‘snake god’.”

The observatory is located below a cliff, its entrance hidden by vines. Pushing open the stone door, one is greeted by the smell of formaldehyde. The underground passage is lit by green lights, and the walls are adorned with various serpentine totems, each with a glass jar containing various organs.

“This…this is a failed test subject.” Young Master Liu pointed tremblingly to one of the jars, in which a fetus was floating. “My sister said that Qin Mo wanted to perform gene editing to create people with snake-like features.”

Xu Zirui felt a wave of nausea wash over him. His mentor's research notes from three years ago had mentioned the ethical issues of gene editing. Could it be that he was killed because of this?

At the end of the corridor was a circular laboratory. Lying on the operating table in the center was a girl—Liu Ya. Qin Mo, wearing a white coat, held a syringe filled with a green liquid.

"You've come at the perfect time." Qin Mo turned around, his gold-rimmed glasses reflecting the cold light of the green light. "Dr. Xu, would you like to take a look at the final step of the memory transplant?"

Young Master Liu was about to rush over when Xu Zirui stopped him: "He's stalling for time."
