First, take down the Sword Demon, then save Runeterra.
Chapter 53 Military Life
Atto finally obtained the metal identification plaque engraved with his information.
While he was queuing, Riven stood next to him, looking up at the sky, seemingly lost in thought.
"Got it? Let's go. After we settle into our lodgings, it'll be about time for dinner. To make our soldiers stronger, the Empire never skimps on their food."
The two continued on their way, and Ato soon saw a building that looked a lot like a school dormitory, with each floor divided into many small rooms.
Riven handed Atto a key: "I'm in 101, you can stay in 102, that room is always empty."
Atto reached out and took it, inserted it into the keyhole, turned it once, and opened the room door.
The room wasn't big, about ten square meters, and the only furniture was a single bed, a table, and a cabinet, but it was fairly tidy. Atuo didn't have any particular requirements.
When she reappeared, Riven no longer had the greatsword behind her.
"Are you still carrying a sword?" Riven looked at Atto. "This is a military camp, not a battlefield. If you have to carry a weapon even when you're eating, people will think you're being provocative."
"I, I'll put it back right away..."
When Atto returned to his room, he realized that he had never been separated from the Darkin Blade since he arrived in Runeterra!
"Old man, you can stay inside for now, okay?"
"Don't worry about me, I'm just a normal weapon now." Aatrox didn't seem to care.
After putting away the magic sword, Ato followed Riven to the restaurant. As soon as he entered, Ato had a strange sense of déjà vu.
This place looks just like a school cafeteria!
Soldiers clad in armor gathered in twos and threes, munching on bread and making a lot of noise. Soldiers who hadn't eaten yet held iron trays in their hands and lined up in front of a window.
"It brings back memories of college life..." Ato murmured.
"What?" It was too noisy around her, and Riven didn't hear clearly.
"It's nothing, let's hurry up and get in line,"
Atto picked up a metal plate from the table by the door and asked Riven, "Any recommendations?"
Riven shook her head: "Do you think this is an outside restaurant? The army doesn't have that many kinds of food. It's the same few kinds every day. It's the same no matter where you queue."
"I heard it was developed by the royal family as the best combination for soldiers. We can only eat bread, meat, and some dairy products every day."
Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins... Soldiers eat these every day, and with daily exercise, they do grow quickly...
Riven was ahead of Artoria in line. When it was her turn, she said to the kind old man at the window, "Three pieces of bread, two pounds of pork chop, and a glass of milk."
When Ato saw that the bread was much bigger than a steamed bun, his understanding of Riven was refreshed once again.
She can eat so much!
He compared his own appetite in his previous life to that of Riven, and found that even when his appetite was at its peak, he could only eat half of what Riven ate!
Riven carried a large plate past Atto and quietly found an empty seat to eat.
"Soldier, what would you like to order?"
It wasn't until the kind old man inside the window reminded him that Ato realized he had been staring at Riven for too long...
"A piece of bread, half a pound of beef, a small piece of cheese, thank you..."
The kind old man glanced at Atuo, frowned slightly, but still gave him the food as requested.
For Ator, whose body had been modified by the Darkin Demon Sword, food was no longer a necessity. He ate to make himself less conspicuous in a crowd, and he also enjoyed the taste of delicious food.
Atto sat down opposite Riven with his plate in hand. Riven asked in surprise, "You're eating so little? Aren't you hungry?"
Ato looked around and noticed that Riven had the largest appetite, but his appetite was still different from that of the average soldier.
He quickly made an excuse, saying, "I thought the food provided to the soldiers each day was limited, so I didn't dare ask for more..."
Riven didn't suspect anything, stuffed a large piece of meat into her mouth, and mumbled, "The Empire's level of attention to this war is beyond your imagination. Besides building warships, the biggest expense is giving us enough food."
"When I was a child, we didn't have enough to eat. Let alone meat, we were lucky to get a loaf of bread a day. But now? Vast plains in the western part of the empire are used to grow wheat and raise livestock, just to produce a strong army."
"So don't worry, take as much as you want. I've said it before, the Empire never mistreats its soldiers."
“I understand… I’ll get more after I finish eating these.” Ato didn’t want to stand out from the others.
After a hearty meal, Ato patted his bulging belly and returned to the dormitory with Riven.
Riven went upstairs to shower, and Atto finally had time to observe the Noxian military camp from the window.
This military camp is very different from the military camps I remember from my previous life...
Ato recalled his brief military training experience, where he was strictly restricted by various orders. He had to march in formation and eat in a unified manner. This place was much more relaxed, and it was more like a gathering place for mercenaries than a military camp.
Just then, there was a knock on his door.
Who is it? I don't think I know anyone else besides Riven...
Ato opened the door warily, and standing outside was Jill, the disheveled soldier he had met once before.
His expression was somewhat unnatural, and he looked furtive as he pointed to the room next door and asked, "She's not here right now, is she?"
"No. Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Phew." Jill breathed a sigh of relief and called out to those behind her, "Come out, everyone, she's not here!"
As soon as he finished speaking, five or six people emerged from the shadows of another building. They came to the door of Room 102 and looked at Atto with curiosity.
They then simultaneously gave Atto a thumbs-up.
"Bro, that's impressive." Jill patted Atto on the shoulder. "To be able to win over Miss Riven, you're no ordinary person."
"What is all this nonsense?" Ato was speechless.
"Stop denying it. I saw it during dinner. Your eyes never left Miss Riven, and she didn't seem to mind you."
"Do you know what we call her in the military camp? Valkyrie! She's practically beaten up all the strong fighters. We even think that only General Darius himself could defeat her!"
"Those who know her abilities all think that it's a waste of her talents for her to be a swordsman captain here. I wouldn't be surprised if she became a nobleman one day!"
“Because no one can beat her, no one dares to pursue her. Brother, I’m happy for her that you’ve won her heart, as her friend. Make the most of this opportunity!” Jill patted Ato’s shoulder heavily again.
"What are you doing here?" Riven's cold voice rang out from behind Jill and the others, making them shudder.
"No, it's nothing, hahaha." Jill smiled ingratiatingly. "You guys chat, I won't disturb you, I'm leaving now!"
