Sweet Wife in a Warm Pet Contract

Chapter 52 Drowned Chicken

Shen Menghan felt that someone was spying on her, but when she looked at Li Zhicheng, she found that he was still sleeping with his eyes closed. Could there be a surveillance camera in the room?

No, she must be overthinking it!

"Auntie, Auntie, are you up yet? I made dumplings this morning, shall we eat together?"

Below the balcony, Xu Jingjing, dressed in a brightly colored long dress, called out in a soft, delicate voice.

In order to please Li Zhicheng, she decided to put aside her prejudices and win back Shen Menghan's heart. If Shen Menghan no longer hated her, it would be easy for her to get close to Li Zhicheng.

Shen Menghan didn't care. She didn't care what Xu Jingjing was up to. She was in a hurry to leave now. She would eat breakfast on the way, or she could drink a bottle of milk.

"Auntie, are you home? I've already cooked, let's eat together!"

Xu Jingjing seemed to want everyone to know what she was doing, raising her voice several notches, and even wanting Li Zhicheng to hear it.

Seeing that she refused to leave, Shen Menghan rolled her eyes, went back into the bathroom, picked up a bucket, filled it halfway with water, and went out.

When Xu Jingjing saw her come out, a sly smile spread across her face, and her voice became even more melodious: "Auntie, look, these are your favorite mushroom dumplings."

Shen Menghan sneered and looked down at her, picked up the bucket, raised it to the railing, aimed it at Xu Jingjing, and splashed it out forcefully!

"Ah!" Xu Jingjing didn't expect that when she splashed water, she would be soaked to the bone and become a drowned rat!

Shen Menghan pursed her lips, staring at the disheveled Xu Jingjing. This was too lenient of her to throw a stone at her!

Li Zhicheng rolled out of bed and saw Shen Menghan staring smugly outside. He breathed a sigh of relief. He was worried that she would be bullied by Xu Jingjing, but it seemed that she was not someone to be trifled with.

"Auntie, these dumplings are too soggy to eat. I'll make you some more when I get back, and we can eat them together tomorrow morning, okay?"

The humble Xu Jingjing is particularly pitiful. She goes to great lengths to please Shen Menghan, but it's all for her own benefit.

Shen Menghan ignored her and turned to go back into the house.

Seeing that Li Zhicheng was looking at her, she gripped the bucket in her hand tighter, but didn't say anything and walked straight in.

Li Zhicheng clapped his hands and said, "Well done!"

"Aren't you going out to take a look?" she said provocatively. Xu Jingjing had a great figure, with a captivating charm like some models. She once wondered if Li Guowei was infatuated with that.

“I never look at trash,” Li Zhicheng said even more resolutely.

"Garbage?" Shen Menghan found the word quite novel.

"Yes, anything that doesn't meet my standards is trash, but you are my treasure." In an instant, Sheng Jiangqing's eyes were filled with deep affection, as if he had been bewitched.

Shen Menghan playfully scolded, "You're so annoying!"

Xu Jingjing returned soaking wet, her face full of anger.

She dumped the plate and dumplings into the trash can and hurriedly ran back upstairs.

Li Guowei hadn't gotten out of bed yet. When he opened his eyes and saw her looking like she'd fallen into water, he burst out laughing.

"Honey, you're still laughing? I've been bullied!" Xu Jingjing said, leaning closer to him.

Li Guowei quickly stepped aside and pointed at her, saying, "Go change your clothes first, we'll talk later if you need anything."

"I... I wanted to make peace with Shen Menghan, but she splashed water on me." Xu Jingjing was full of grievances, and if she didn't say it out loud, she would feel even worse.

“Why did you go and provoke her? If she could forgive us, would she have made such a scene at our wedding?” Li Guowei glared at her, feeling that Xu Jingjing’s IQ was getting lower and lower.

“Now that we’re family, I want to build a good relationship so it will be helpful for you in the future at the Li family. Do you think I’m only thinking of myself?”

“Our family’s problems didn’t arise overnight. Do you really think you can fix them with a few simple tricks? Stop messing around and go change your clothes.” Li Guowei shook his head; Xu Jingjing was truly overestimating herself.

"You should also find an opportunity to talk to Shen Menghan and tell her to stop targeting me," Xu Jingjing said, already making plans in her mind.

"Hmm, you've hit the nail on the head. I'll find some time to have a good talk with her."

Li Guowei thought that he owed Shen Menghan an apology. Xu Jingjing was right. Since they had become family, they would run into each other all the time. He should make peace with her.

Shen Menghan and Li Zhicheng set off.

My maternal grandmother's house was in a very remote rural area. It was a long and winding road, with many turns, before I finally arrived.

It is a place surrounded by mountains and rivers, and it looks like it is full of birdsong and fragrant flowers, but there are very few people living here. The sparse tiled houses are less than ten households.

Li Zhicheng had no idea that there were such ancient houses in the West City. The people here were all dressed in ethnic minority costumes, and their attire had already revealed their ethnicity.

Shen Menghan told him, "Few outsiders come here. They cultivate the land themselves and live a life of plenty, almost completely isolated from the world. But because of this, they haven't been able to acquire more advanced scientific and technological knowledge and are completely unaware of the rapid development of the outside world."

"Why not move out? The transportation is inconvenient, what if you get seriously ill?" Li Zhicheng frowned. Although it was a good place to live, it wasn't a place to live permanently.

"Do you think they can just move away like that? They've lived here for a long time, they have a sense of belonging to their hometown, and they don't want to move. Also, they're used to living here, and they would feel out of place if they moved to a big city. Rather than go out and be laughed at, they'd rather stay here and quietly enjoy the changes of time."

Shen Menghan still longs for this place. If it weren't for the pressures of life, she would stay here and grow old with her grandmother and mother.

She came back once when she was in junior high school and fell in love with the place. After that, she would come back to stay for a day or two whenever she had free time to keep her grandmother company. After she graduated three years ago, she was busy with work all day and came back less often.

But she brought back many useful things, which made her grandmother and the villagers very happy.

“If they are willing, I can give them a new home,” Li Zhicheng said with emotion, entirely for Xiaohan’s sake.

"Heh, Li Zhicheng, do you think you're a savior?" Shen Menghan said, then stopped looking at him and strode forward.

Li Zhicheng followed behind her carrying large and small bags. These things were all bought before leaving Xicheng, some of which were probably supplements for the elderly.

The small mountain village was originally very quiet, but the sound of their car had already attracted everyone's attention. When Shen Menghan got out of the car, a villager called out from afar, "Xiaohan, Xiaohan is back!"

"Oh, Aunt Shen, it's me. Long time no see."

Shen Menghan's face was filled with joy, completely different from her usual self; her genuine smile was exceptionally beautiful.

Li Zhicheng watched her run up to greet others, her smile never fading, and he was extremely envious.

He hadn't expected to have such a genuine smile.

"Xiaohan, you're back."

A very gentle voice came from a small house, and then a woman slowly walked out.
