Quick Transmigration: The Leisurely and Sweet Life of a Support

Chapter 45: The Educated Youth Side Story (Part 45)

My name is Shen Luo. I was brought to the Zhou family by my mother. My father was sent to a labor camp when I was six years old.

At the time, I didn't understand what "reform through labor" meant; I only knew that I never saw my father again after that.

My life before I was six years old was very happy. Although I don't remember much about it, I know that I was loved.

After arriving at the Zhou family home, I gained an older brother. My mother treated him much better than I did. He always got new clothes, new toys, and new schoolbags, while I could only wear his old clothes, play with his unwanted toys, and use his dirty schoolbag. My mother said not to waste things, as my brother's things were all very good.

Although Zhou Mingyuan couldn't be called a good older brother, he wouldn't cause me any trouble. In his eyes, I was just an insignificant presence. He didn't deliberately get close to me, nor did he show any dislike for me.

On the contrary, I hated him. When I was young, I always felt that he and his father had stolen my mother away. My mother would never let me use things that other people had used, and she would often hug me and call me baby...

But ever since she came to the Zhou family, everything has changed. She always acts like she really likes her brother, as if he is her son. Every time I try to get her attention back, she gets very impatient and keeps muttering "Mingyuan, Mingyuan".

Zhou Mingyuan is indeed outstanding. He can easily achieve good results, and he is also sunny and cheerful. Everyone around him likes him.

When I was a child, all my playmates would revolve around him. As long as he gave an order, everyone would follow him, and no one would look back and see me all alone.

Since they don't care about me, I won't play with them anymore. I can be happy on my own.

As I grew older, I communicated less and less with my mother and had even less to say to my stepfather. Every day I went to school, came home, ate, and slept. Zhou Mingyuan and I went to the same elementary school, the same junior high school, and the same high school.

Zhou Mingyuan was always the most dazzling one in the crowd, while I didn't like to talk and had no friends. Even after junior high school, many girls would come up to me and try to make conversation, but I didn't know what they wanted to do with all that nonsense.

I couldn't be bothered with them, and the boys in my class ignored me too. I was like an invisible person, living the same life every day, and nobody cared.

It wasn't until halfway through high school that my mother changed Zhou Mingyuan's rural assignment to mine. Ah... so they knew I existed. I never thought my mother could find a use for me.

I scoffed inwardly, finding my mother's tearful face rather amusing.

She's already given me my name, so why pretend? Although I really want to leave this house, doing it this way is disgusting.

My mother packed my luggage for going to the countryside, stuffed a lot of money and bills into it, and wiped away her tears, saying that she didn't want to do this either.

I know that Zhou Mingyuan has graduated from high school and started a factory outside, which is very profitable. His mother is reluctant to let him, who is good at making money, go to the countryside. Since I am so useless, it would be better for me to go in Zhou Mingyuan's place.

Once I leave, the eyesore will be gone, and she can gain a good reputation in the Zhou family. Zhou Mingyuan will also be grateful for her kindness, and he can spend the money he earns on her. It's all good.

Not wanting to see her hypocritical face any longer, I quickly boarded the train to the countryside.

After arriving in the north and meeting up with other educated youth, they all took a truck to Qiaojia Village.

This trip might be the last I ever go back to, and I might spend the rest of my life farming in the countryside.

I chuckled to myself. It's not such a bad thing that I can't go back, is it?

The young people were chatting with each other the whole way, it was so noisy. I turned my head to look at the scenery outside the car, well, it was very desolate, nothing to see.

After arriving at Qiaojia Village, we followed the brigade leader's instructions and went to our lodgings. There were four people in one room. After making our beds, it was already dark. Everyone was exhausted from the day and went straight to sleep.

There was nothing special about Qiaojia Village. Our task was simply to work in the fields and work alongside everyone else.

Li Hai, who shared a room with him, kept mentioning the name of a female educated youth. Her name was Chong Li, and he had seen her at breakfast that morning. She was indeed very beautiful.

But once you get to the countryside, no matter how pretty you are, it's useless. Li Hai muttered mysteriously. On the way, he heard that this Chong Li was sent to the countryside in place of her sister. For some reason, her family changed her name to hers.

Hearing this touched me, and I realized that I wasn't the only one who had encountered this kind of thing; there were other people in the world who shared the same plight.

So, unusually, after dinner, when I saw her being surrounded by a group of young people and carefully backing away, I inexplicably asked her to come back with me to get some kind of poetry collection.

After escaping the crowd, she thanked me. Up close, she was indeed very beautiful. From afar, she was a pretty girl, but up close, she was even more stunning. She had fair skin, eyes that sparkled like stars, a delicate nose, and red lips. She was charming and lovely.

My gaze drifted down, and she had a particularly good figure. I quickly looked away; I shouldn't look at something I shouldn't.

After giving her the poetry collection, it was getting late. After much deliberation, I decided to take her home. After all, I was the one who asked her to come and get the book, and I would be responsible if she was unsafe on the way.

That very night, Li Hai told me the gossip he'd heard, the specific reasons why Chong Li had come to the countryside. Although I lay in bed without saying a word, unlike the others, I didn't ask Li Hai any questions out of curiosity, because he was bound to tell me eventually.

So I learned the truth about her being replaced from his words. Compared to her being betrayed by her own sister, being stabbed in the back by my own mother didn't seem like such a painful thing.

After learning how pitiful she was, my gaze would always unconsciously follow her. It wasn't a romantic pursuit, but I just felt sorry for her and wondered what kind of girl she was.

The more I observed her, the more I realized she was a good girl. She worked hard, and while other female educated youths were resting, she always worked quickly and well.

She wasn't the type to care about her appearance; when she went to work in the fields, she was always dressed in coarse cloth, her headscarf wrapped around her head like a rice dumpling, and her hands were rubbed red.

Many young men stared at her. She was as adorable as a little white rabbit entering a wolf pack. After returning from her first market trip, the young men all tried to give her gifts, such as gloves, scarves, and handkerchiefs, but she refused them all, saying that she had already bought them herself.

When I heard Li Hai shouting in the dorm that he hadn't delivered the things, I felt strangely happy.

I secretly observed this girl, and as I watched, I realized that I might, perhaps, have a little bit of a crush on her.

She's so wonderful, there's nothing shameful about liking her. Not just male educated youth, but all the young people in the village like her.

I felt like a snake lurking in the shadows, secretly watching her, hoping she would discover me, yet also fearing she would.
