Chapter 39 The Perplexing Incident in the Boys' Dormitory
The girls' dormitory was inexplicably thrown into chaos, and the boys' dormitory was just as noisy.
When Jiang Zong returned to the dormitory, he saw Chen Jun sitting in his seat with a livid face. When he saw Jiang Zong return, Chen Jun glared at him.
His eyes were fierce, as if he had seen his father's killer.
Jiang Zong didn't even look at him, and took off his woolen coat and hung it on the hanger.
The other people in the dormitory were already used to Jiang Zong's silence, and when he returned, they simply nodded casually as a greeting.
This wasn't bullying or exclusion; it was simply that Jiang Zong had been out of place since the day he arrived.
A man in black carried his luggage, and a nanny busied herself tidying up his things and making his bed. Although they cleaned up the entire dormitory, the feeling was just too distant.
If Jiang Zong were a talkative and chatty person, things might be a little better; between guys, there's nothing a good drink can't solve. But he's not one to keep quiet, which only widens the distance between them.
He's like a rich kid on TV; he shouldn't have any connection to their lives at all.
Jiang Zong nodded to them, then picked up the basin for washing and headed to the washroom.
He was actually quite satisfied with his roommates—they were all nice people who wouldn't force him to talk or chat, and they would subconsciously quiet down when he came back.
Jiang Zong discovered that he was out of toothpaste, so he opened the cabinet to get a new one.
Meanwhile, the counseling session continued:
"Sigh, your situation is nothing compared to mine. How could it be worse than mine? This winter break, some female student somehow started buying goods from my mom's shop to sell at a street stall. My mom nagged me about it for the entire winter break, forcing me to set up a stall to earn money..."
Jiang Zong paused slightly as he unwrapped the toothpaste tube, suddenly remembering his good friend.
She was also setting up a street stall on Youth Street that day.
He subconsciously slowed down his movements and, unusually, showed some interest in talking to others.
The one complaining was Liang Tianxing, the chubby boy who slept in the lower bunk below Jiang Zong. He originally just wanted to comfort his good brother with his own miserable situation, but as he talked, he started to get emotional:
"Tell me, in temperatures below minus twenty degrees Celsius, my mom made me sell socks on the main street! Is this a job for a human being? Let me tell you, after standing there all day, I was still cold in the middle of the night!"
Jiang Zong couldn't help but frown.
Some people were quite interested in this and asked, "So how much money can you earn in a day?"
Liang Tianxing said "Oh," rubbed his nose, and said nonchalantly, "About two hundred yuan a day on average. Don't underestimate socks, they sell well! If we don't lose any stock, we can earn three hundred a day!"
"Fuck me!"
Cursing erupted from the dormitory.
"You can earn that much? My dad only makes two hundred a month, and you can earn this much in a day by setting up a street stall?"
"Hey Fatty, can you talk to Mom about this? I'd like to sell socks too, but I don't have the capital, so can I buy them on credit first?"
“What’s that?” Liang Tianxing said, grimacing as he drank hot water. “At the Wu’ai Market where my mom works, the old lady who sells fried dough twists at the entrance can sell tens of thousands of yuan worth of goods a day! But her profit margin is low, but she can still make a few thousand yuan.”
Another round of "Fuck!" sounds followed.
"Several people earn ten thousand yuan a month... I don't want to study anymore, I want to sell fried dough twists too."
"Have you heard? Professor Zhai from our school's economics department resigned and went into business..."
Their conversation went off-topic.
Jiang Zong's thoughts were still on "earning more than two hundred yuan a day".
He had never run a business, but he had heard his father talk about these things since he was a child, so he knew a little bit about them.
His father would often negotiate deals worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and these deals were made easily over meals and drinks.
Lin Ting can only earn two hundred yuan a day by setting up a street stall in the freezing cold.
Is she short of money?
Jiang Zong looked at the open cabinet, inside which was a very thick leather bag filled with money; he himself had never counted how much there was.
He then thought of the bill Lin Ting paid for dinner earlier that day…
He really deserves to die!
As Jiang Zongzheng was blaming himself, a loud shout suddenly rang out in the dormitory:
"enough!"
Chen Jun slammed his hand on the table and stood up, glaring angrily at Liang Tianxing.
Liang Tianxing was completely bewildered, having no idea what this guy had gone crazy about this time.
What could Chen Jun possibly be going crazy about?
The truth is, Liang Tianxing kept talking about setting up a street stall, which was like a series of steel knives being plunged into his heart!
If it weren't for this messy street vending incident, how could he and Zheng Miaoying have ended up like this?
"What are you doing?" Liang Tianxing asked, puzzled.
Chen Jun's face was cold, and his eyes were full of disdain as he looked at him: "How dare you say that? You're a college student, and instead of studying hard, you're setting up a stall to make money. How can you face the school?"
Liang Tianxing looked at him like he was crazy: "Brother, what's wrong with me setting up a street stall? I was just trying to be nice and tell you to take it easy, and you think I'm wrong for giving you advice?"
The other three roommates also thought Chen Jun's words were problematic, but considering that he was acting strangely today, they stepped in to mediate: "Alright, Fatty, let's not talk about this anymore. Let's go to sleep."
Liang Tianxing glared at Chen Jun, kicked the stool aside, stood up, and prepared to wash up.
But Chen Jun was filled with anger and grievances and had nowhere to vent them. Completely ignoring other people's good intentions, he yelled at Liang Tianxing's back: "You're a student, and you're not doing what you're supposed to do. You're just like your mother, obsessed with money and you don't even let people talk about it?"
It's unclear whether he was referring to Liang Tianxing or someone else.
Liang Tianxing also had a fiery temper. Upon hearing this, he turned around and kicked him, saying, "Go to hell! If you're going to talk about me, then talk about me. Why are you dragging my mother into this?"
Chen Jun was kicked and staggered. He was sitting by the window, and when he leaned back, his lower back hit the windowsill.
Chen Jun was stunned for a moment, then threw a punch back.
The dormitory was in complete chaos.
The other three were busy breaking up the fight.
Jiang Zong stood by the door, silent, deep in thought.
Why did they suddenly start fighting?
"Wow--"
Someone threw an enamel rice bowl out; it didn't hit anyone, but it did break the glass.
The rice jar broke through the glass barrier and, along with countless shards of glass, jumped off the building.
The dormitory manager was alerted.
The teacher on duty also arrived.
"What exactly caused your fight?" the teacher asked.
“He insulted my mother!” Liang Tianxing said righteously.
Chen Jun snorted coldly and turned his head away.
"What? You dare to say it but not admit it?"
"I don't deny it."
You deserve a beating!
"roll."
"You fucking still..."
The teacher was annoyed by their noise. She frowned and looked at them for a while before finally walking up to Jiang Zong, the only one who was dressed neatly and clearly hadn't participated at all: "Jiang Zong, tell me, what exactly happened?"
After pondering for a long time, Jiang Zong replied, "They fought."
"I know, why?"
"..."
The teacher stared at Jiang Zong for half a minute and realized that he was even more confused than he was.
The teacher was even more confused.
