Floating life reflects two lotuses
Chapter 103 Experimental Subjects
Inside the laboratory, cold lights illuminated every corner. Under the blinding white light, Chu Wanlian stood in front of the control panel, her gaze fixed on the man in the experimental chamber in front of her.
The man, referred to as "Experiment Subject 07," was currently strapped into a transparent chamber.
His body twitched slightly, his limbs were firmly restrained by taut straps, and his head and chest were covered with devices that conducted runic energy. Those runes emitted faint but dangerous blue light, slowly seeping into his body.
"Energy stability rate has risen to 78%, about to exceed the set value!" a researcher in a white lab coat exclaimed, his laptop emitting a rapid alarm.
"Stop the experiment immediately! Energy overload!" Another person hurriedly typed on the keyboard, trying to shut down the transmission device, but the runic light in the laboratory only became brighter, as if it had lost control.
Chu Wanlian turned her head sharply, her voice urgent: "What are you doing? Can't you see that this experiment has gone out of control?!"
"We must obtain the data! As long as we break through the 80% energy threshold, we can complete the construction of a stable channel!" A senior executive, pale-faced but gritting his teeth, insisted, his eyes flashing with madness.
"This is a human life! A human life!" Chu Wanlian roared angrily, turned around and rushed to the control panel, her hands moving rapidly across the keyboard, trying to forcibly interrupt the input of rune energy.
Li Chenyao's voice suddenly rang out behind her: "Calm down, you can't stop it alone."
Chu Wanlian didn't turn around, cold sweat beading on her forehead, her voice filled with stubbornness through gritted teeth: "If I don't do it, then no one else can."
Li Chenyao's sharp gaze swept over the situation inside the experimental chamber. He quickly stepped forward and abruptly switched off a power switch on the control panel. However, the flickering runes seemed to have already been activated, their light increasing rather than decreasing.
"Energy level has exceeded 83%!"
The laboratory alarm blared even louder, and the man inside the glass chamber's pupils dilated suddenly, his face contorted in agony. He opened his mouth wide, letting out a hoarse, piercing scream, his body convulsing violently.
"Stop it!" Chu Wanlian shouted almost hysterically. Her fingers, which were rapidly typing on the keyboard, trembled slightly, and her fingertips turned white from excessive force.
Li Chenyao grabbed her arm and hissed, "This energy is out of control! You have to back away now!"
"No! I have to save him!" Chu Wanlian struggled to continue operating, her eyes fixed on the man—his body was gradually being swallowed by a blue light, and he seemed to be torn apart, struggling forward in agony.
"Energy overload, rune circuit cannot withstand it! System forced shutdown!" A researcher screamed and ran away from his seat. The equipment emitted a series of explosions, and the light in the experimental chamber suddenly exploded.
"boom!"
With a deafening roar, the runic device inside the transparent capsule exploded, scattering blue light everywhere. The man's body froze for a moment, then seemed to be torn apart by an invisible force, turning into specks of light and dissipating into the air.
The entire laboratory fell into a deathly silence.
Chu Wanlian stood there, stunned, staring blankly at the scene before her.
The man vanished into thin air, without leaving a trace. Her fingers trembled slightly on the keyboard as she murmured, "His soul...dissipated?"
"Is this your achievement?" She turned around, her sharp gaze sweeping over the panicked researchers, her voice so cold it seemed to freeze the air. "A living person, turned into a ball of light, and just vanished like that?"
The research room was deathly silent. The supervisor, his face ashen, stammered, "We...we need data. It's for the advancement of science..."
"Science?" Chu Wanlian sneered, her eyes filled with anger and contempt. "For the sake of so-called 'science,' you don't even care about human lives?"
Li Chenyao stepped forward, gently pressed her shoulder, and said in a low and calm voice, "That's enough, Chu Wanlian. Now is not the time to argue with them."
Chu Wanlian bit her lip, forcibly suppressing the anger in her heart, and coldly scanned everything in the laboratory: "This kind of experiment must be stopped."
"You have no right to decide!" the supervisor suddenly retorted, a hint of madness flashing in his eyes. "Do you know what this means? We are about to control the power that transcends time and space! The sacrifice of those souls was worthwhile!"
“You’re insane.” Li Chenyao’s voice was as deep as a blade about to be drawn, and his gaze was so cold that no one dared to look him in the eye. “You think you can control this power? You’ll only get burned.”
Before the supervisor could say anything more, Chu Wanlian walked directly to the experimental chamber, picked up a rune device that was still burning, and slammed it to the ground.
"Bang!" The device shattered, and the light went out instantly.
"Enough," she uttered coldly. "I won't let you continue your evil deeds."
"You..." The supervisor's face flushed red as he angrily pointed at her, "Do you even know what you've ruined?!"
"I destroyed a plan that would have killed countless people." Chu Wanlian stared directly at him, her gaze unwavering.
Li Chenyao walked to her side, his gaze calm and firm: "Take all the data, let's go."
"How dare you! Security! Stop them!" the supervisor shouted, and several security guards in black uniforms rushed in and blocked the passage.
Li Chenyao smiled coldly, reached inside his suit jacket and took out a gold token, waving it in front of the security guards: "See this? Level 1 emergency clearance, executing a mission. You dare to stop me?"
The security guards were taken aback and hesitated immediately; no one dared to step forward rashly.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Li Chenyao pulled Chu Wanlian and quickly passed through the passage. They walked hurriedly, and the supervisor's heart-wrenching screams still echoed behind them, but no one dared to chase after them anymore.
As Chu Wanlian stepped out of the laboratory, a cold wind rushed towards her. She paused slightly, glanced back at the heavy metal door, and her eyes were full of determination.
“Li Chenyao,” she suddenly spoke, her voice trembling slightly, “we must stop all of this. These people have gone mad.”
Li Chenyao looked at her, his gaze gentle yet firm: "I promised you I would help you find the truth. Now, I won't let you face it alone."
The two exchanged a glance, and Li Chenyao nodded before continuing forward.
The wind blew past them, as if carrying away the lingering oppressive atmosphere in the laboratory.
But Chu Wanlian was becoming increasingly clear in her mind that the laboratory experiment was approaching a critical point.
She must find a solution as soon as possible, otherwise the power of the runes will bring irreparable disaster.
