Tangli Fried Snow

Chapter 8 Fighting Alone

Jin Cheng tormented her quite a bit that night, making her make the bed, change her shoes, wash her smelly socks, and pour her water, but she could still tolerate it.

That scoundrel actually ordered her to use the chamber pot for him.

Reluctantly, Shirley held the chamber pot in front of him, her heart filled with thoughts of Wen Xiangli's virtues. Jin Cheng pretended to take off his pants, and she stared blankly. Jin Cheng pretended to take out his treasure, and she still stared blankly.

Is this young lady out of her mind? Even if she blushes, looks embarrassed, scared, or tries to run away, he will still humiliate her a few times before letting her go.

But she remained calm and stared straight at him, waiting for him to release the water.

If he lets her leave now, where will he put his pride?

Jin Cheng hesitated for a moment before taking out the water and letting it run. She actually looked at it carefully for a few moments, and a smile appeared on her lips.

He couldn't get any water out.

Sherry waited patiently for him to finish, took the chamber pot out to empty it, and when she came back, he was already in bed asleep, his head facing inward, lying on his side. He didn't ask her to do anything anymore, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

That brat actually had a conscience; he even prepared a small couch for her to keep watch at night. She was exhausted and sleepy, her mind filled with countless thoughts. She just wanted to lie down and rest for a while, but she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

Hearing her even breathing, Jin Cheng angrily turned around, glared at her, and thought, "She's sleeping so soundly, she probably wouldn't wake up even if there was thunder or a fire." He snorted coldly, already plotting how to punish her later, and before he knew it, he had fallen asleep too.

Silent all night.

Sherry was awakened by the sound of horns.

She glanced at Jin Cheng; he was still asleep. She quietly got up. The sky outside was just beginning to lighten. The sound of warhorses and soldiers approached from the east. She trotted eastward and saw a vast, dark army, marching in orderly ranks, stretching as far as the eye could see, heading south. At the head of the procession, valiant generals in golden armor rode imposingly on horseback, their hooves thundering as the army receded into the distance.

Sherry took off running towards the northern camp, where Wen Xiangli's tent was located.

When she arrived, breathless, the place was still the same as before, except that everything in the tents had been packed away; the tents were empty. So Jin Cheng hadn't lied to her; Wen Xiangli really had taken his troops to defend the city. She was now a rootless drifter. What was she to do? Had he taken her indenture with him? How could she contact him?

She was momentarily lost and didn't know where to go.

"Su Mu," someone called out.

"Su Mu!" the man called again. Xue Li came to her senses. Right, her name was no longer Lin Jiaojiao or Xue Li, but Su Mu. She was a soldier who had just enlisted a month ago.

She looked in the direction of the voice and saw a tall, imposing middle-aged man looking her up and down. "Su Mu, I am Jin Yunchong."

Jin Yunchong, the second-in-command here, is Wen Xiangli's superior.

"Commander Wen led his troops to Weiling County in the south early this morning. He left in a hurry and asked me to pass on a message to you. He said that you should stay with Supervisor Jin for a few days and he will find a way to transfer you back to his side. He will send someone to contact you in a few days."

Sherry's mind was in turmoil, and her hands and feet wouldn't obey her commands, so she could only give him a half-standard military salute.

This was the first time she had met this second-in-command. A few days ago, she and Wen Xiangli had inquired about the basic situation here. Although Jin Yunchong was the second-in-command in the army, he was considered a direct descendant of the Jin family and was most skilled at spying on military intelligence, commonly known as intelligence gathering. Therefore, he was a very important figure.

Given Jin Yunchong's position and expertise here, he must know that she is a woman and that she has a real relationship with Wen Xiangli. So, he can be considered one of "our own people," right?

Sherry was in a state of confusion; she needed to ask him the question that concerned her most right now.

She tentatively asked, "General Jin, I wonder if I could stay here and wait for Lieutenant Wen, instead of going to the front lines with Supervisor Jin? Could you find another guard to switch places with me?" Looking at his expression, she quickly added, "I can go to the cookhouse, or I can sweep horse manure."

The implication is that as long as he doesn't follow Jin Cheng, he's willing to endure hardship and work.

After listening, Jin Yunchong pondered for a moment and slowly said, "Jin Cheng is my younger cousin. I know him fairly well. He has been mischievous and naughty since he was a child. He has always tried to get his hands on anything or any toy he has his eye on. He will only put it away or give it away when he has played with it enough and lost interest. If he is really into a toy, even the emperor would have a hard time getting it."

After he finished speaking, he made a "you know what I mean" expression.

The light in Sherry's eyes dimmed instantly.

“However,” he changed the subject, then comforted her, “he’s a good kid. Although he’s mischievous, he has a kind heart and treats everyone around him well. I heard that the servants and maids in his household are all willing to serve him. Mischievous children are usually carefree, and with his good family background and so many new things, he won’t like a toy for long.”

After hearing his words, Sherry finally felt a little more at ease. As long as she served him obediently, he would get tired of her in a few days and throw her away like an old toy.

Seeing that she was less flustered, Jin Yunchong nodded to her and said one last thing: "It's really inconvenient for you to move around in the army, so don't go out unnecessarily to avoid unnecessary trouble. Just wait patiently. Lieutenant Wen will pick you up and take you away from the camp as soon as possible. If you encounter any difficulties that you can't resolve, you can come to me."

Shirley gave Jin Yunchong another military salute, sincerely thanking him: "Thank you, Lieutenant General Jin."

Jin Yunchong strode away.

Since the situation is already set in stone and there's nothing he can do to change it, and he can't rely on Wen Xiangli for the time being, he can only cheer himself up and make sure to serve Young Master Jin well.

She straightened her head, took a deep breath, forced herself to smile, and silently repeated "I can do it, I can do it" to herself. Before she could finish saying "I can do it" for the third time, she felt a warm current flow between her thighs, a familiar and warm liquid reminding her.

Your period has started!

Fortunately, this was near Wen Xiangli's tent, where there was a makeshift toilet specially set up for the two of them. She hurriedly fled here, took out clean clothes from her space and changed. Luckily, she still had sanitary napkins in her backpack, so she wouldn't be too desperate.

The due date wasn't due for several days yet, but her recent emotional ups and downs must have affected her cycle. The good news is she's not pregnant; the bad news is Jin Cheng doesn't have a private toilet. So she'll have to come here to use the restroom whenever she has a spare moment.

After she finished dealing with everything and found a place to wash her pants, she dawdled back to Jin Cheng's tent.

The sun was high in the sky, already well past midnight.

After finishing her night shift, she was allowed half a day off, so she went straight to the dormitory that Dongzi had brought her to.

A towering man was already asleep there, snoring loudly. She sat in a corner, looking lost and dejected.
