Tangli Fried Snow

Chapter 43 The Ferret Makes a Difference

It was Lin Wanjun and Jin Qingyan who rescued Fuling, her child, and Qiu Ling.

Zhao Wuji was a capable man; he turned Jiyue City upside down in just over a month. The two ferrets played a crucial role, working tirelessly and energetically throughout the city, diligently helping them search for people.

It was Zhao Wuji who found Shirley first. That day, she was buying a hen on the street, intending to make soup for Fuling to nourish her body. There were many poultry and animals at the dog market. She didn't pay attention to the fat dog that circled around her a few times, thinking it was just an ordinary puppy.

When Zhao Wuji saw Fatty return, he squeaked excitedly and, contrary to his usual behavior, bowed and asked for credit, which meant that Fatty had been found!

Sherry was completely covered up, with only her mouth and nose showing, clearly a young man. He didn't dare to act rashly. So he followed her for most of the day, watching her go home, watching her go shopping, watching her take care of a child in the yard with a pretty girl. After dark, when the courtyard was locked, he hurried back to the east of the city to tell Lin Wanjun and Jin Qingyan the good news.

The two were overjoyed to hear this, and Lin Wanjun hurriedly asked him, "Brother Zhao, how is she? Is she alright?"

Zhao Wuji said, "She was dressed as a man, and judging from her words and actions, she was doing quite well. I even followed her to a farmhouse, which I guess is where she stayed."

Upon hearing the address he gave, Jin Qingyan exclaimed, "We always thought she had been kidnapped, so we searched for places where people could be imprisoned. I never imagined she would be staying in an ordinary farmhouse. Persistence pays off, and we have finally found our sister!" After saying this, he and Lin Wanjun took hands, looked at each other, and Lin Wanjun was so excited that she burst into tears.

Lin Wanjun cried and said, "It's all thanks to Brother Zhao!"

Zhao Wuji laughed and said, "I found that place by chance. There's a brokerage firm nearby that's the biggest in the south of the city. I was just going there to try my luck, but I couldn't find anyone. Then, halfway there, Fatty barked a few times, reminding me to let him out of his cage. I let him out for less than half a cup of tea's time, and he circled around a teenager a few times before coming back to give me the signal that he'd found him. What a good kid! I'll feed you the tenderest chicks later! A good reward for you."

Bai Xue, who was next to Jin Qingyan, also started chattering, clearly wanting to get some attention. Zhao Wuji laughed and patted Bai Xue's head again, saying, "You get them all! Bai Xue gets one too!"

"If we can't find it again, the scent on the old clothes will get weaker and weaker, and even if we take the old clothes, we probably won't be able to find Miss anymore!"

The three men praised the two heroes repeatedly and rewarded each of them with two tender chicks, which the chicks then feasted on.

Jin Qingyan immediately ordered several of his skilled men to put on a carriage, and the three of them rushed to the small courtyard in the south of the city overnight.

When the group arrived under the moonlight, the woodshed where firewood was stored was already ablaze.

"Not good!" Zhao Wuji shouted, grabbed a quilt from the carriage to keep warm, and rushed over. The gate and walls of the farmer's house were low, and he was agile enough to climb over the wall in no time. He quickly wet the quilt in the water vat in the yard, put it on, and rushed into the room.

He went in and out twice, braving the thick smoke, and rescued a woman and an infant, as well as a young woman, whom he handed over to Lin Wanjun, who was waiting in the courtyard.

Neither of these two people resembles Kim Seol-ri in the portrait.

Lin Wanjun also shook her head anxiously at him and said, "This is not my sister."

By this time, the fire had already engulfed all three rooms. Zhao Wuji gritted his teeth, ordered his men to soak the blankets in water again, and rushed back into the inferno. He searched several times, but there was no one else in the rooms.

As the fire grew larger, shouts from nearby residents could be heard outside the door, and neighbors who lived nearby had already come to put out the fire with buckets of water.

After a quick discussion, the group took advantage of the chaos to carry the three adults and children onto the carriage and bring them back to Sifang Cloth Shop.

. . .

When Fuling woke up the next day, she had a splitting headache. When she opened her eyes, she touched her chest and found it wet and swollen, hard and painful. It seemed that she was sick. She had slept too soundly last night and hadn't gotten up to feed her baby.

She saw Tiger lying beside her and hurriedly called to him. After calling him many times, Tiger finally cried out. She quickly breastfed him, and the little guy ate heartily. Finally, she felt less pain in her chest.

Suddenly sensing something was amiss, she realized with a start that she wasn't in her usual room. This was clearly a luxurious and unfamiliar room. Her heart skipped a beat. She put the child on the bed, straightened her clothes, and got out of bed to put on her shoes and check the surroundings.

The furnishings inside the house clearly indicated that it belonged to a wealthy family. How did she end up here? Where were Shirley and Qiuling? She couldn't help but want to go out and look for them.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw a beautiful woman standing at the doorway holding some food.

The stranger exclaimed with delight, "You're awake! Perfect timing, I brought you some breakfast, eat up!"

Fuling looked at her with surprise and doubt and asked, "May I ask how to address this lady?"

The beautiful woman said, "You don't need to be afraid. My name is Lin Wanjun, and I am Xue Li's sister-in-law."

Fuling remembered that when she first met Xueli, she heard her say that she had a conflict with her brother and sister-in-law and ran away to go north to find her parents. She was kidnapped by Er Gouzi and that's how she met Fuling.

After gaining her freedom, Sherry never mentioned returning to her brother and sister-in-law. She even told herself that when Tiger was older and the weather was warmer, she would take the three of them to the northern capital. So, for a moment, she didn't know whether Sherry's sister-in-law was a good person or a bad person.

She awkwardly twitched her lips and said to Lin Wanjun, "So you're Xue Li's sister-in-law. But I was sleeping at home last night, how did I end up here?"

She paused for a moment, then asked, "Where are Xue Li and Qiu Ling?"

Lin Wanjun said with a bitter expression, "That girl is still sleeping in another room, but Xue Li is indeed missing." She briefly recounted how the fire broke out in the small courtyard in the south of the city last night, how they went to look for Xue Li, and how they rescued the three of them.

Fuling exclaimed in surprise, "What? The yard is on fire? Xue Li is missing?" She was frantic.

"Did you report it to the authorities?"

Lin Wanjun said, "Let's go inside and talk." Only then did Fuling realize that Lin Wanjun was still holding breakfast in her hand, and the two of them were standing at the door.

Fuling smiled and invited her into the house, taking the things from her hands and placing them on the table.

"Sister-in-law Jin, tell me quickly, who kidnapped Xue Li? She's just a teenage girl, she shouldn't have any enemies, so how could she be kidnapped and have our house burned down?"

Lin Wanjun said, "My husband, who is also Xue Li's older brother, went to check again early this morning. The government officials have also inspected the fire scene and said that it was obviously arson. They also interviewed the neighbors who helped put out the fire yesterday. I heard that you had a quarrel with the two brothers. The government has arrested the two men and is interrogating them."

The two men tried to gather some useful resources, but still couldn't come up with a solution. Lin Wanjun had no choice but to take her leave to discuss the matter further with the two men.

Amidst his busy schedule, Zhao Wuji found some old clothes at the scene of the fire and said to Lin Wanjun, "Take these clothes and ask which one your sister just wore."

Lin Wanjun quickly showed it to Fuling for identification. Fuling took out a men's cotton-padded jacket and said, "This is what Xue Li usually wears."

Zhao Wuji, holding the cotton-padded coat, said, "Your previous clothes have lost their scent due to the passage of time. We have these clothes with a strong scent, so we can find the person quickly."

The other two were thrilled upon hearing this and regrouped to search for the person again.
