Tangli Fried Snow

Chapter 32 Jiu'er

As Sherry was thinking, a person suddenly darted out from the roadside, startling her.

Upon closer inspection, she realized it was a young woman, but she was covered in dirt and had disheveled hair, looking like Brother Sharp, and seemed rather abnormal, like a female madwoman.

"Stop the car! Stop the car!" the sharp-tongued woman shouted, waving her arms.

"Whoa~" Sherry didn't want to stop at first, but she was afraid that if she didn't stop in advance, she would lose control of the car and run her over.

Poria cocos also stuck its head out to see what was going on.

Sherry, fearing she was a bad person, shouted, "What are you doing!"

"Miss, please save me, please save my life! I'm willing to serve you for the rest of my life, to be your slave!" Sister Sharp said pitifully, kneeling on the ground, her eyes filled with sorrow.

Sherry glanced around. There was no village or shop in sight, just wasteland and overgrown weeds. She had no idea where she had come from.

She couldn't help but ask, "Who are you? Have you encountered any danger? Why are you here?"

The woman said urgently, “Miss, I was originally from the capital. My parents are in poor health, my younger brother is missing, and my younger brother is sick. My family is on the verge of starvation, so I had no choice but to sell myself to earn some money to save my family. Who knew I would be sold here and married to two brothers? Every day I am humiliated and beaten by them, forced to work endlessly, and they don’t even give me food. I couldn’t bear it any longer, so I secretly ran away. I have nowhere to go and can only hide everywhere. The weather is getting colder and colder, and I am about to freeze to death. Luckily, I saw you driving a carriage, and since we are both women, please save my life.” After saying this, she kowtowed desperately on the ground, and blood began to seep from her head after only a few kowtows.

Sherry was horrified at the sight and hurriedly said, "Stop kowtowing! If you keep kowtowing, I won't help you anymore." Upon hearing this, the woman stopped kowtowing and looked at her with tears in her eyes.

Xue Li and Fu Ling exchanged a glance, both seeing reluctance in each other's eyes.

Whether she herded one sheep or two, it was all the same. They'd already come to this point; what difference would it make to save one more poor soul? She hesitated for a moment, then made up her mind and said, "You come up first."

Upon hearing this, the woman, overwhelmed with gratitude, hurriedly climbed onto the carriage.

She was disheveled, dressed in rags, and huddled shyly in a corner.

Sherry pulled an old cotton coat out of her bundle, or rather, from her spatial storage, and handed it to her: "Your clothes are unwearable now, change into something else."

She hurriedly waved her hand and said, "No, no. Miss, you should keep this new cotton coat for yourself."

Fuling knew that Xueli was a kind-hearted person, and besides, her clothes were really filthy. She advised Sister Xili, "You should change into them. Old clothes are too dirty, have a lot of mud, and may have lice. Don't let the young lady get infected."

Upon hearing this, the girl took the clothes from Xue Li and changed into them. She took off her tattered clothes and handed Fu Ling directly to Xue Li, telling her to throw them into the ditch by the roadside.

Sharp Sister's body was covered in fresh and old scars and bruises. When Sherry saw this, she couldn't help but feel a lump in her throat. My God, this woman is so pitiful. What kind of world is this?

She couldn't bear it any longer and turned away, no longer looking at her, and continued driving her carriage.

Fuling brought her some food. Sharp Sister was probably starving, as she wolfed down the cold cornbread. Fuling said, "Eat slowly, there's more. Here, have some water, don't choke." As she spoke, she handed her some water.

Sharp Sister ate three whole cornbreads before stopping, and her complexion finally looked a little better.

Fuling asked her, "What's your name? How old are you?"

Sharp Sister said, "Sister, my name is Jiu'er, and I'm seventeen years old."

Sherry felt a deep sadness. In modern times, none of the three women in this car had graduated from high school; they were still the apple of their parents' eyes. In this cruel ancient world, these teenage girls had already endured enough of the coldness of human nature, even suffering endless hardship and torment. Now that the three of them had met, she couldn't ignore it. She could only say that this was fate.

As she rushed to catch her train, her mind wandered. Suddenly, a surge of joy and excitement welled up inside her. She was now a free woman! And she had two new friends—that was wonderful!

She couldn't resist whipping the horse to run faster.

They marched on triumphantly. It wasn't until noon that they finally reached the south of the city.

There are many people here, but the houses are low and dilapidated, and the people on the street are dressed very simply, indicating that most of them are poor. The high population density, low cost of living, and ease of hiding among the crowd make this a good place to settle down.

There was a heavily pregnant woman and another person covered in injuries on the bus, neither of whom could move around easily.

Sherry told them to wait in the car. She changed into men's clothing, put on a hat to cover her hair, and dressed herself up properly. She went to the main street, asked around, and found a dental clinic.

The brokerage is a place that specializes in buying, selling, and renting real estate and land. There weren't many people there at noon; only a middle-aged manager was dozing off inside.

Sherry walked up to him and said, "Shopkeeper, this young man is very polite."

The innkeeper opened his eyes and, seeing a customer had arrived, hurriedly greeted her warmly: "Young master, please sit down and have some tea." While gesturing to Xue Li, he poured her a cup of hot tea. Having traveled for half a day, she was quite thirsty, so she smiled, sat down, and drank a cup of tea.

"Young master, are you looking to buy or rent a house?" the shopkeeper asked her with a smile.

Sydney said, "I want to rent three rooms, two for living and one for cooking, preferably with a yard and a well."

The shopkeeper asked, "Would you like to rent something better or something older, sir?" The implication was that he wanted something more expensive or something cheaper.

Since Sherry had money, she naturally chose the best: "I want the best, the bigger one."

The shopkeeper considered for a moment, then took out a few keys and said, "There are three suitable apartments nearby. I'll take you to see them."

The innkeeper was a shrewd man; he first went to the less desirable courtyards. Shirley didn't like them, so he went to the slightly better ones, and finally settled on a courtyard that was good in every way.

Clean and tidy, with two rooms, a kitchen, a toilet, and a separate well. It's located on a street but not noisy. The most convenient thing is that there's an open space inside, which used to be used for storing straw. Although it's a bit messy, it's a good place to park a horse-drawn carriage.

"How much does this set cost?" Sherry asked.

The shopkeeper smiled and said, "The first two sets cost 700 coins a month, and this set costs 900 coins a month."

"I'll rent for three months and pay in one lump sum. Can it be 2500 coins?" When buying things, you have to bargain, and of course you have to bargain when renting a house. Sherry asked him directly.

The innkeeper glanced at her. This young man was quick-witted. He didn't agree immediately, but declined, saying, "Then I need to ask the landlord."

Sherry knew these people's tricks, and looking at him with a smile, she said, "No need to ask anymore. If it's okay, we can exchange money for keys right now."

I'm in a hurry to move in, so I can't let him delay and waste my time.

The shopkeeper was amused by her novel words, and after considering it for a moment, he said, "Alright, as you wish, young master, but you still need to come to my shop to sign the documents."

Sherry readily agreed to go back with him to sign the agreement.
