She picked up the young prime minister while fleeing famine
Chapter 45 Banxia Goes to Poison
They had already suffered enough, having lost their homes and loved ones; they couldn't die with these bandits.
With that in mind, Banxia brought it up.
"The young master said that since these women were captured by those bandits, they certainly wouldn't eat the same food as the bandits."
"The food the bandits give them must be terrible, so all we need to do is poison the food they make for the bandits."
Upon hearing this, Yao Lizheng quickly explained.
They certainly wouldn't harm the innocent; these women and children have no grudge against them, and they wouldn't hurt people indiscriminately.
"Oh, I see. I'm sorry, Uncle Village Head. I didn't think of that." Banxia quickly said.
"It's alright, Banxia. But you must be careful about the poisoning. If it doesn't work, get out of there quickly and don't let anyone find out," Yao Lizheng warned worriedly.
"Don't worry, Uncle Village Head, I have experience," Banxia said solemnly, waving her hand.
It's not like she hasn't fought before. If she can't beat zombies, can't she beat humans?
Even if you can't beat a knock-off, you can just run away!
However, Banxia still took it seriously, hoping to avoid being exposed, otherwise it would be difficult for them to make a move.
When Yao Lizheng heard her say that she had experience, he was taken aback. However, he remembered that the young master had said that he had poisoned the bandits and knew how to preserve the poison.
Perhaps it was she who helped the young master?
Little did they know, the poisoning was originally Banxia's idea!
Soon, the sky gradually darkened, and the men brought by Yao Lizheng surrounded the mountain stronghold from both sides, while the bandits guarding the gate were still yawning and did not notice anything amiss.
"When are you going to send someone to relieve us, boss? I'm starving and sleepy," one of the bandits guarding the gate complained.
"It'll be quick, someone will come to relieve us after we finish eating," another bandit said slowly, glancing at the darkening sky.
"I wonder what we ate today. It smelled delicious from far away," the bandit, who had started complaining, continued to mutter.
"The boss will save some for us; we'll have something to eat when we change shifts."
"..."
The sky wasn't quite dark yet, but Banxia, Yao Dahe, and Yao Daniu had already climbed into the mountain stronghold.
Following the path Yao Daniu had taken, the three quickly made their way to the back of the kitchen.
Banxia peeked out the window and saw three women cooking in the kitchen: one chopping vegetables, one tending the fire, and one stirring something in a large pot.
There was a shadow at the kitchen doorway, seemingly a bandit watching over the women as they cooked.
Banxia squinted and looked up. There was a pot of stewed potatoes and meat in the pot. She wondered where these bandits got the meat from, and they were eating it so well.
But something this good is definitely not for women and children, so this is the one.
Banxia secretly chose her target for poisoning, but she didn't know if this pot of poison could be shared among the more than one hundred people in the entire mountain village.
Having made her decision, Banxia gestured for Yao Dahe and Yao Daniu to retreat and hide, while she herself lightly jumped and climbed onto the beam of the thatched hut.
In ancient times, the sides of thatched huts used as kitchens were not sealed off in order to allow for ventilation and heat dissipation.
Although the opening was small, it was just the right size for a child like Banxia to pass through.
Banxia crawled inside and lay down on the beam, taking in the entire kitchen.
The kitchen is quite large because it's meant to feed a whole village.
Banxia huddled up in a ball at the entrance, using the crossbeam to hide her small body, so that even if people below occasionally glanced at her, they wouldn't notice her.
And so, she held the slingshot and waited patiently.
Finally, the bandits guarding outside lost their patience and shouted urging them to hurry inside; the opportunity had arrived.
As the woman who was tending the large pot and stirring it occasionally turned to get something to serve the food, Banxia deftly pulled back her slingshot.
Three yellow and white meatballs were dropped into the large pot, splashing a little soup. Banxia used very light force, trying not to make a sound.
Seeing the woman take a large basin to scoop up the stewed meat, spooning it one spoonful at a time, the poison dissolved into the broth, Banxia slightly curled her lips, "It's done!"
After the whole pot was ladled out, the woman who chopped the vegetables and her daughter, who was in charge of cooking, cooked a huge pot of wild vegetable and egg soup together, using dozens of eggs.
Seeing so many eggs being cracked into the pot, Banxia felt heartbroken; these bandits certainly knew how to eat.
Banxia has been here for so long, and apart from stealing a few bird eggs once, she hasn't eaten any chicken eggs yet. These bandits are really lucky.
But then I thought about it again, and these refugees didn't seem to have the same strength to these bandits. It must be because there are hens in this mountain stronghold that lay eggs every day, otherwise these people wouldn't be so extravagant.
Thinking of hens, Banxia's eyes lit up again. After dealing with these bandits, she would definitely get two hens to take with her and let them lay eggs for her younger siblings to eat and help them get better.
If it really stops laying eggs, then we can at least kill it and eat it.
As for the hen, it originally belonged to the villagers of this mountain village. Banxia didn't think that much about it; winning a fight meant you were entitled to spoils of war.
These are the rules of the apocalypse and the chaotic world we live in now!
After poisoning the food and watching the bandits carry it away, making sure the women wouldn't use the huge pot to cook anymore, Banxia quietly shrank back inside.
After climbing out through the ventilation duct, Banxia quickly hid in a corner and met up with Yao Dahe.
"Is it done?" Yao Dahe asked Banxia in a low voice.
"It's done. We can notify Uncle Village Head now," Banxia said confidently.
"Great! This time I'm going to wipe them out completely and avenge Third Brother!" Yao Daniu clenched his fists and said angrily.
The "third brother" he mentioned was his own brother, who had lost his life at the previous stop on the mountain road. Yao Daniu hated these bandits because of this.
"Keep your voice down, let's get out of here first." Yao Dahe pulled Yao Daniu back to prevent him from getting too excited and ruining things.
Banxia also knew about this, and felt a little heavy-hearted when Yao Daniu mentioned the dead.
The bodies of the three dead villagers from Yaoli Village were taken away by the village head and buried at the place where they are now camping.
Now, all they can do is destroy this bandit stronghold and avenge them.
The three left the center of the mountain stronghold with heavy hearts and went back to reunite with Yao Lizheng and the others.
It was already getting dark when Yao Li heard his son's signal and swiftly led his men over the mountain stronghold.
On the other side, more than twenty people, led by a respected uncle from the same village, sneaked in.
The two groups of people crept slowly toward the center from the shadows, each gripping their weapons tightly, ready to deliver a fatal blow to the enemy at any moment.
At first, Banxia was left at the back of the line, but taking advantage of her small size and agility, she quickly ran to the front.
Yao Dahe wanted to grab her, but to his surprise, the little girl seemed to be a bit stronger than him and easily broke free, which surprised Yao Dahe and made him show an expression other than his usual stern face for the first time.
