She picked up the young prime minister while fleeing famine
Chapter 1 What an exciting time-travel experience!
"Quick, they're over there. Catch them! Those little ones are very tender; we can't let them get away."
"Banxia, get up quickly and run with your younger brothers."
"Grandpa, boohoo, Grandpa, please don't go."
"Waaah, Grandpa's back! Sister, sister, wake up!"
A commotion made Banxia's head ache. She opened her eyes groggily and saw two four- or five-year-old boys hugging her and crying. Not far away, several fierce-looking men were running towards them with knives in their hands.
"Banxia, hurry, run!" came another desperate shout.
Banxia turned her head blankly and saw an old man lying on the ground with his face covered in blood, one hand reaching out forcefully towards her.
There were two other couples fighting against each other beside the elderly man, but it looked like they wouldn't last much longer, as everyone was bleeding from head wounds.
Looking at her visibly shrunken hands and feet, Banxia finally realized that she had transmigrated because she had overworked herself while cultivating food at the base and used her supernatural abilities too much.
"What are you standing there for? Run!" came an anxious boy's voice.
Banxia glanced over instinctively, only to see a fleeting afterimage that vanished instantly into the woods by the roadside.
Looking at the men on the other side, their faces contorted with rage and their actions ruthless, Banxia felt a surge of danger and wanted to run away.
But she still remembered the two crying little ones, and with a burst of energy, she grabbed one doll in each hand and quickly chased after the boy who had run away.
Banxia pulled the two little ones along, following the boy's footprints, while sorting through the few pieces of information she had just received from the original owner of the body.
In the 127th year of the Great Xia Dynasty, the south suffered from floods and the north from drought. However, the emperor was so engrossed in women that he not only failed to allocate funds for disaster relief but also increased tax revenue in order to build a palace for his beloved concubine.
The people suffered greatly and, finally, under the leadership of some savvy individuals, rose up in rebellion, leading to the collapse of the Great Xia Kingdom and the fragmentation of the country into various warlord states.
In an era of both famine and war, the original owner's family was fleeing south. Along the way, they encountered not only starving refugees fleeing the famine, but also rebellious troops who were burning, killing, and looting.
As she ran, the tracks the boy had left disappeared. Looking at the overgrown path, Banxia was unsure which direction to run in.
"This way."
It was that voice again. Banxia looked up and saw a head peeking out from the grass not far away. It was a boy who looked about ten years old.
Banxia breathed a sigh of relief and pulled her two younger brothers, who were almost too tired to run anymore, directly towards that direction.
She followed the boy all the way until they entered a secluded little cave halfway up the mountain, where she plopped down and gasped for breath.
After fleeing famine for two months, they had now moved from the north to the border region between the north and south, where there were more mountains and dangers.
After catching her breath, Banxia looked down the mountain with concern. The old man she remembered was probably no longer there.
Thinking of how he had just shouted at her to run, Banxia's eyes reddened.
She was an orphan, and no one had ever protected her like this before.
But if we let her go back to save people—
When the apocalypse came, her wood-based superpowers could only be used to participate in planting in the base to earn a living; she couldn't even kill zombies.
Furthermore, now that she's turned into a nine-year-old child, going back to save people would be tantamount to suicide!
Her gaze fell on the boy beside her, whose face was gradually becoming anxious. Banxia's lips twitched, and she was just about to comfort him when there was a sudden commotion outside.
"Damn it, I thought I was going to get some tender meat, but these brats are so vicious, they don't even care about their parents anymore, ugh, ingrates!"
"That's right, everyone says scholars value filial piety, but I spit on them! Their parents are dying, and these kids don't even utter a sound just to save their own lives!"
