Reborn in the Hong Kong entertainment industry in the 1980s
Chapter 150 Progress
Besides the archery scenes, there were also several important fight scenes, which they filmed again and again.
When Yang Yanzhao learned that his son had been captured by Mu Kezhai, he led his army to rescue him. Mu Guiying and Yang Yanzhao had a very fierce and exciting fight.
The actor who played Yang Yanzhao was specially found by Nie Jinlong. He was a martial arts actor with a background in martial arts and was very skilled in fighting. He was imposing with his long spear in hand.
Let alone female artists, even male artists with a martial arts background would be at a disadvantage when facing him.
But Hu Xiaoxiao was not intimidated at all. Her action scenes were powerful, swift and fluid, and she exuded a strong aura.
Yang Yanzhao's imposing presence and Mu Guiying's spirited demeanor were both vividly portrayed by the two actors.
To enhance the tension and visual appeal, several shots in this fight scene were filmed in a single take, and the final result surprised and delighted the director and martial arts choreographer.
The highly realistic martial arts scenes, combined with wire work and explosions, create an artistic aesthetic that blends realism and romanticism.
The drama "Mu Guiying" contains some fantasy elements and features some magical scenes, especially when breaking the Heavenly Gate Formation, where Mu Guiying needs to fight against the Liao Kingdom's Grand Preceptor.
Because they were unsure about computer-generated special effects, the production team used a lot of explosions and fireworks when filming the magic scenes. The effects were excellent, but also quite dangerous; Hu Xiaoxiao was almost injured in the explosions.
When Mingxu saw how dedicated Hu Xiaoxiao was, he felt even more pressure. "Director Shao, it's my turn to act."
Director Shao watched the playback on the camera with appreciation. Hearing Mingxu's words, he reluctantly looked away from the screen and asked, "Are you ready?"
"I've been ready for a long time." Mingxu showed the director his well-developed physique.
"We'll shoot your scene tomorrow." Director Shao nodded, and said with a puzzled look, "You're strange. We've filmed so many of your scenes, and you've never said you had to take your clothes off. Why are you asking for it now? Isn't this kind of weird stuff something newcomers do to grab attention?"
Mingxu just laughed and didn't say anything.
The scene where Mingxu shows off his physique is when he is trapped in the Tianmen Formation and fights the Liao soldiers to the last moment. His clothes are tattered, so he simply tears off his tattered armor and goes into battle bare-chested, fighting the Liao soldiers to the death.
This fight was brutal and visceral, with sharp and swift punches and kicks, full of power, explosive and visually impactful.
After the director finished filming, he looked at Mingxu differently. "Mingxu, you should have told me earlier that you were such a good fighter and had such a great physique."
How many good shots did he give up before? No, we must add them in the future.
After Director Shao finished filming all the action scenes, Director Ge started looking for flaws in the dramatic scenes.
Compared to Director Shao's grand and sweeping action scenes, Director Ge's dramatic scenes are filmed with great care and he is better at telling stories through details.
The marriage between Mu Guiying and Yang Zongbao was full of twists and turns, which was a drama about the entanglement of love between the young couple; after Mu Guiying married into the Yang family, the relationship between Mu Guiying and her mother-in-law, Princess Chai, was also a melodramatic plot that housewives loved to watch.
Mu Guiying dislikes being restrained and has a free-spirited nature, which clashes with Princess Chai's ideals, leading to numerous conflicts and misunderstandings between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, all while maintaining a humorous and entertaining tone. Director Ge and Director Shao collaborated to film a fight scene between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, capturing both the tension of a martial arts scene and the lighthearted humor of an emotional one.
Director Ge used a very delicate approach to portray each of the Yang family women as flesh and blood, capturing the hardships faced by the women of a loyal family and the precious bond of mutual support among them. The women's united efforts and their heroic spirit, no less than that of men, as well as their tragic emotions, were all captured with great emotional depth by Director Ge.
In his portrayal of Mu Guiying, director Ge used almost all his knowledge and experience to depict the turbulent times of the Song Dynasty, when Liao soldiers invaded the country and treacherous officials held sway in the court. He showed how Mu Guiying, as a woman, turned the tide and saved her family and country from peril.
The film fully depicts Mu Guiying's journey through three stages: as a daughter, as a wife, and as a mother. It showcases Mu Guiying's hardships and greatness, as well as her indomitable spirit of fighting for her country.
This is a drama about women. Under Director Ge's portrayal, every woman in the Yang family has her own personality and unique charm.
Hu Xiaoxiao didn't expect that emotional scenes would be so difficult to film, and she had more takes than action scenes.
The more she messed up, the more determined she became. During filming, she learned how veteran actors handled emotions, and she didn't rest afterward, going to Xia Qing's studious tutoring session almost every night.
When Director Ge announced that filming had finally wrapped, Mu Guiying was so exhausted that she sat down on the grass.
It's not physical exhaustion, but mental exhaustion.
Thankfully, it's finally over.
"Finally finished filming!" Zhu Wanwen, who was also exhausted, sat down on the grass, wiped the sweat from her face, and exclaimed.
Zhu Wanwen was not only mentally exhausted, but also physically exhausted. Her character, Yang Paifeng, often had to fight alongside Mu Guiying, and there were many action scenes. She would be suspended by wires for half a day at a time.
But in order to play the role of Yang Paifeng well, Zhu Wanwen never uttered a sound even when she was in pain on set. She would only apply and massage with medicinal wine again and again after returning home.
Hu Xiaoxiao was sitting on the mountaintop, looking at the distant scenery and the sea. After resting for a while, she asked Zhu Wanwen, "Are you feeling any better?"
"How did you know?" Zhu Wanwen thought she had concealed it well, but she didn't expect Hu Xiaoxiao to see through it.
Hu Xiaoxiao laughed and said, "When I first started being suspended by wires, it hurt too, and I had bruises all over my body."
Even someone with such a good constitution like her suffered so much, so you can imagine what Zhu Wanwen's situation was like. What's remarkable is that Zhu Wanwen didn't complain at all while filming, and did whatever she was told without a word.
Zhu Wanwen laughed as well: "Although it was very tough, I have to say I learned a lot, and I feel that I have made great progress."
There are some things that she can't learn from books without experiencing them firsthand. Now, with each experience on set, she has gained profound insights, and things that she couldn't understand before are now clear to her.
"Yes." Hu Xiaoxiao also felt that she had made great progress. Not only had she improved in action scenes, but she had also learned a lot in dramatic scenes, in terms of emotional handling, expressions, and subtle details.
Zhu Wanwen asked expectantly, "Xiaoxiao, when will our show air? I want my whole family to be glued to the TV to watch my performance."
"It depends on how fast the post-production team works." Hu Xiaoxiao suddenly thought of the TV series "Fan Lihua." "Has 'Fan Lihua' already started airing?"
During this time, she returned home and almost never turned on the TV; she spent most of her time reading scripts and studying with teachers.
Zhu Wanwen said, "It's been airing for a week now, and I've watched a few episodes."
"How did the filming go?" Hu Xiaoxiao asked.
Zhu Wanwen didn't know how to answer, "You'll know when you get home tonight."
