Lin's mother couldn't bear the embarrassment and couldn't help but glare fiercely at Lin Mei. Her proud daughter had actually done such a thing; it was like a knife to her heart.

The nurse sat down on the edge of the bed, picked up an apple from the table and started eating it. "That's different. You two are biological children, but Lin Yue isn't. How could she possibly look like you?"

"If she were her own daughter, how could she help her second daughter steal her eldest daughter's husband? No human being could do such a thing."

Lin's mother gritted her teeth in anger, "Don't talk nonsense, I didn't do such a thing. You can't wrong an innocent person. I treat them all the same."

Lin Mei also looked embarrassed, realizing that she had no way to fight back against this young nurse.

The young nurse chuckled, "When it comes to framing innocent people, how can I compare to you? You can just spout lies without batting an eye."

Knowing she couldn't win the argument, Lin's mother said sullenly, "This is our family matter, it has nothing to do with you, and it's none of your business."

She turned her gaze to Lin Yue and said, "Go to the police station and withdraw the previous charges. Just say that you were confused and accused the wrong person."

Lin Yue sneered and said sarcastically, "Why? There are witnesses and physical evidence. Shen Rong can't escape. He'll definitely spend the rest of his life in jail. Now, with the addition of the charge of forcing a minor girl, he might even be sentenced to death."

Lin Mei panicked upon hearing this and blurted out without thinking, "Who said he forced me? I did it voluntarily. The police can't sentence him."

"Clap clap clap" applause rang out. "Wonderful, little girl, you're quite the actress. Just now you said that someone forced you to cry like a pear blossom in the rain, and now you're saying that it was consensual and that you were in love. It's a waste that you're not an actress."

Lin's mother looked at her with disappointment, feeling heartache and regret when she thought about the money she had spent on her.

Lin Mei clutched her mother's sleeve, looking aggrieved. "Mother, don't listen to her nonsense. I had no choice. If I didn't say I was willing, would I really just watch him go to a labor camp? How would my baby and I survive then?"

After all, they were her own children, so Lin's mother softened. She shook her head and said to Lin Yue in a low voice, "Why did it take you so long to let them go?"

She has to do whatever you ask her to do. Why should she negotiate with you? She shouldn't take your things either. Give them to me; I have a great use for them."

Lin's mother glared at her in disappointment, "Fine, take the form and leave the Lin family to fend for yourself. I won't care about your affairs anymore."

Lin Mei stood frozen in place, reluctantly withdrawing her hand. "Mother, how can you abandon me? I'm your own daughter, I'll listen to you from now on."

Then, she glared fiercely at Lin Yue, determined to get that pocket watch back sooner or later, along with the other things.

Although she was unwilling and resented Lin's mother for being biased, she couldn't show it now. She had no one to rely on but Lin's mother.

The nurse paused for a moment when she saw the pocket watch. She seemed to have seen something exactly like it when she was a child, but she couldn't remember where she had seen it.

Lin's mother threw the things onto the bed and said coldly, "I know you've resented me all these years, but I had no choice. I've been living a hard life myself, so who should I resent?"

I can't stand by and watch my child suffer. Take the things back, and let bygones be bygones. Don't hold it against me anymore.

Now that you're living a good life, I don't expect you to support us in our old age, but you must take good care of your younger siblings.

Lin Yue picked up the pocket watch with trembling hands, her eyes cold. "Didn't you say you had nothing last time?"

Lin's mother pursed her lips guiltily, her voice still icy, "I can't have raised you for nothing all these years. Without me, you wouldn't be alive today."

Lin Yue scoffed, "If you're going to cut ties, then cut them off completely."

Lin's mother looked up at Lin Yue in surprise, "What do you mean?"
