After entering the ward, the police officer went straight to Lin Yue and asked in a low voice, "Are you Comrade Lin Yue? We need to ask you about some things."

Lin Yue assumed they were colleagues of the comrade who had saved her, and nodded gently, "Yes, I am Lin Yue."

The police officer nodded and then said, "There is a case of intentional assault here. We need to verify the situation with you. The injured person is named Shen Rong, and he is now suing you for intentional assault."

Lin Yue could hardly believe her ears. Shen Rong had no bottom line; he was capable of doing something as blatantly distorting the truth as this.

She felt like every pore on her body was angry, and she felt nauseous and wanted to vomit.

Chang Jingxiang clenched his fists, his eyes icy cold. "Where is Shen Rong? Find him here for a face-to-face confrontation. See what he's done and how he has the nerve to accuse others first."

The police officers were a little intimidated by Chang Jingxiang's fierce gaze; the sense of oppression was intense. However, they couldn't back down, so they raised their voices and said, "Comrade, please watch your attitude and cooperate with our work."

Chang Jingxiang wanted to step forward to argue, but Lin Yue grabbed his arm. He turned around and saw Lin Yue gently shaking her head at him. "It's okay. I will cooperate with the police officers' questioning. I believe they will give a fair and just result."

Lin Yue took a breath, calmed herself down, and explained the whole story clearly. She added at the end, "Officer, I already called the police earlier. It should be your colleague. I want to accuse Shen Rong of hooliganism, and Lin Mei is an accomplice of him."

The two police officers stared at each other in disbelief. They had come to question the defendant, but the defendant had turned out to be the plaintiff, and the girl lying there claimed to be the victim.

Shen Rong's head was indeed broken. The police officer said with difficulty, "Comrade Shen Rong's head was broken. He said you hit him with a stick."

Lin Yue started crying again, her voice choked with sobs, "Officer, I didn't hit him at all. If I had injured him and run away, I wouldn't have had to jump off the building."

My leg is broken, and the person who saved me can testify that Shen Rong wasn't injured at all.

She gave a well-founded account, and even the police officers sympathized with her situation. However, since she had filed a lawsuit, they couldn't let their personal feelings interfere.

Just as one of the police officers was about to speak, the knocking on the door rang out again. Everyone turned around at the same time and saw two other police officers standing at the door.

The group exchanged bewildered glances, somewhat confused. It was the man who had saved Lin Yue who spoke first, "Wang Wei, Zhang Qiang, what are you doing here?"

Wang Wei glanced at Lin Yue, then turned back and said, "Brother Jie, we're here on a police call. Someone has accused this Comrade Lin Yue of intentional assault, and we're here to find out more about the situation."

The man called Brother Jie is Zhang Jie, the man who saved Lin Yue. He met Lin Yue on the main road on his way home from get off work last night. She was wearing a police uniform and he didn't recognize her at first.

Zhang Jie raised an eyebrow, his voice turning colder, "Sure enough, someone tried to frame me first. I was there at the time, and that man wasn't injured at all."

Zhang Qiang scratched his head, also somewhat confused. "But he has a hole in his head and is bleeding a lot. He's getting stitches in the emergency room upstairs right now, and the girl next to him is crying so hard she's almost breathless."

Zhang Jie chuckled. "I've already reported the situation to the bureau. The other comrades have also gone to that guesthouse to find out what's going on. We'll meet up again when we get back to the bureau."

Wang Wei shook his head angrily, "There are all kinds of people in this world. We have a pretty good understanding of the situation. Now we'll go back to the bureau and report the situation."

Zhang Jie nodded. "Okay, you guys go back first. After Shen Rong finishes stitching up, we'll take them back to the station and interrogate them together."

Zhang Qiang wrote a few words on the paper and said through gritted teeth, "These two people are really too lawless. They did bad things and then turned around and accused us. They must not be let off lightly."

Zhang Jie was so angry he laughed. "Alright, stop talking nonsense. It's not good if someone hears us. We can't comment on the situation casually. Everything requires evidence."

Wang Wei shoved Zhang Qiang, "Alright, alright, let's go. You talk too much. Brother Jie, I'm leaving this place to you."

After they left, Zhang Jie walked up to Lin Yue and politely extended his hand. "Let me introduce myself. My name is Zhang Jie. I'm from the town's Public Security Bureau, and I'm in charge of your case."

Lin Yue glanced at Chang Jingxiang, and seeing him nod, she timidly extended her hand. "My name is Lin Yue. Thank you for saving me."

Zhang Jie gave her a light handshake, polite yet courteous. He quickly withdrew his hand and looked at Chang Jingxiang, "You are her husband, Chang Jingxiang?"

Chang Jingxiang extended his hand, "I am Chang Jingxiang, Comrade Zhang Jie. Thank you for saving Xiaoyue. I don't know what would have happened if it weren't for you."

Zhang Jie politely shook hands with him, saying, "It's my duty."

After exchanging a few pleasantries, we got down to business. "Comrade Lin Yue, we need to know why you were alone at that guesthouse?"

Lin Yue glanced at Chang Jinxiang, then lowered her head and said, "Lin Mei took me there. She said my adoptive parents were waiting for me at that guesthouse and wanted to talk to me about my biological parents, so I went with her."

I'm not the Lin family's biological daughter. I only found out recently that Lin Mei is their biological daughter.

Zhang Jie then asked, "Did you know Shen Rong before?"

Lin Yue nodded. "I met him once before when we were in the village. He was a staff member of the village committee back then, but he was dismissed after committing a crime, and I haven't seen him since."

Zhang Jie raised an eyebrow and asked, "What did he do wrong?"

Lin Yue turned her head slightly to look at Chang Jingxiang, who chuckled, "They were having illicit relationships. The village police station has records of it. After Xiaoyue found out about their affair, they took the opportunity to retaliate."

Zhang Jie took notes and nodded. "Yes, we will verify this with the village police station. So, what is the relationship between Lin Mei and Shen Rong?"

Lin Yue sighed and said helplessly, "I don't know either. Although Lin Mei and I don't get along, I never expected her to do something like this."

She attends the middle school in town and doesn't go back often; I don't know how they met.

After Zhang Jie finished taking notes and closed the notebook, he looked at Lin Yue and said, "Just focus on recovering in the hospital. If we need any assistance, we'll come to you again. Don't be so impulsive next time."
