After a good night's sleep, Lin Yue woke up feeling refreshed. She stretched and sat up, rubbing her eyes, only to see that Chang Jingxiang's seat next to her was empty, and the blanket was folded into a neat square like a tofu block.

She heard the sound of a spoon hitting a bowl coming from the kitchen, so she quickly got out of bed to check and saw Chang Jingxiang scooping rice into the bowl.

Lin Yue reached out shyly to take the spoon from his hand, her voice a little hoarse, "Let me do it."

Chang Jingxiang smiled and shook his head. "It's all better now. Go wash your face and change your clothes. I'll take you to the factory after you've eaten."

The two ate their meal quietly. Chang Jingxiang simply cooked some porridge and added some side dishes. "I'm not very good at cooking, so let's leave it at that for today. I'll get my food from the cafeteria tomorrow."

Lin Yue ate the porridge with gusto, not forgetting to praise it, saying, "It's delicious."

She picked up a side dish and put it in her mouth, saying softly, "You don't need to get food. I'll cook from now on. Just tell me what you want to eat."

After dinner, Lin Yue washed the dishes quickly, and Chang Jingxiang didn't try to take them from her, but instead helped her fold the blankets.

When Lin Yue thought of the quilt, Chang Jingxiang had already folded another quilt into a neat square. Lin Yue stood at the door with an admiring look on her face, "I've never seen you fold a quilt like this before."

Chang Jingxiang smiled and patted her head. "I just learned it."

Only Lin Yue would believe her. The first lesson she learned in the army was folding blankets into neat squares, which was a strict requirement. Back in the village, she wanted to stack her blankets together with Lin Yue's.

As they were about to leave, Chang Jingxiang handed Lin Yue a small bag. "This contains towels, soap, and face cream. You can keep it in your dorm for lunch."

Lin Yue looked at the things in her hands, feeling a sweet warmth in her heart, and hugged them tightly to her chest.

Lin Yue happily followed Chang Jingxiang downstairs, greeting passersby as she went.

"Comrade Chang, you're up so early? It's not even time for work yet."

Chang Jingxiang nodded slightly. "I have something to take care of, I need to go out for a bit."

That's just how he is. He talks to everyone in a detached manner, regardless of gender, and doesn't show any emotional change.

"Hey, is this your little sister? Is she on her way to class?"

The voice sounded familiar. Lin Yue looked up and saw one of the women who had been gossiping in the cafeteria yesterday. It turned out she lived right next door to them.

The woman had an expression of watching a good show, her eyes scanning Lin Yue up and down.

Chang Jingxiang paused, stopping to wait for Lin Yue. Once Lin Yue was beside him, he took her hand and said to the woman, "This is my lover, Lin Yue."

The woman was speechless for a moment, but after they came downstairs, she called out, "Oh, so it's your wife. She looks quite young. Come visit sometime."

As Lin Yue sat on the back of the bicycle, she looked back and saw that the older woman was still craning her neck to look at them, her expression completely unlike the friendly one she had shown in front of Chang Jingxiang.

The way he looked at her was a little strange, as if he had taken something from her.

Lin Yue was a little confused. She hadn't even had any contact with them yet, so where did this hostility come from?

Lin Yue watched the courtyard recede into the distance behind her and felt a little depressed. She wasn't good at getting along with others, and she wondered if living here would cause trouble for Chang Jingxiang.

Along the way, Chang Jingxiang kept telling her about the precautions for going to work, and told her to call him if she needed anything, as his phone number was hidden in his bag.

The Cultural Bureau and the garment factory weren't too far apart, about a ten-minute bike ride. Lin Yue calculated the time, planning to walk to work once she was familiar with the surroundings.

This way, Chang Jingxiang won't have to get up early to take her to work. The Cultural Bureau has a late start time, so he can sleep for an extra hour or so.

When we arrived at the garment factory gate, there were many people rushing to work, most of them were older workers from the town.

Lin Yue jumped off her bicycle, straightened her clothes, and smiled at Chang Jingxiang, saying, "Thank you for bringing me here. You can go back now, drive carefully."

Chang Jingxiang wanted to hug his wife, but then he thought that Lin Yue would be shy, so he held back. "Okay, I'll pick you up after get off work."

Watching Lin Yue's figure disappear at the entrance of the garment factory, Chang Jingxiang silently withdrew his gaze. Just as he was about to ride away on his bicycle, he felt someone watching him.

Out of a soldier's vigilance, he glanced around and met a pair of cold, distant eyes.

The man looked to be a little younger than him, with sharp eyebrows, bright eyes, a straight back, and a steady gait; he must have been a soldier.

The man merely glanced at him coldly before looking away and walking into the garment factory with the others.

As Wang Yiming walked, he said, "See? They delivered it by bicycle early this morning, which means they didn't stay at the factory last night."

"What do you think their relationship is? Brother and sister? It doesn't seem like it. The way that man looked at his sister didn't seem like a brother looking at his sister."

Wu Changyong, biting into the sausage in his hand, said, "Those must be your sweethearts, right? Didn't you see how shy the little girl looked? Could she have been deceived by that man?"

Luo Xiaoshan scratched his messy hair. "This woman is not simple. She managed to win over the factory director. Don't be fooled by her appearance."

After watching the movie, the group of people went out for drinks and chats with some young women, which caused them to miss the factory's closing time. They spent the entire night at Huo Qingyan's house and are only now rushing back to work.

They happened to see Zhuo Yifan dropping Lin Yue off at work. Yesterday, Lin Yue seemed quite ruthless, but today she seems to be putting on an act.

Huo Qingyan didn't say anything, but walked at the back with a cold face. Thinking of the man's eyes just now, she felt a sense of familiarity.

The workers had all changed their clothes. Lin Yue was assigned to the first workshop, where experienced workers taught them how to thread a needle. It wasn't just simple mending; every stitch had to be neat and precise.

Lin Yue studied very hard. When she was little, she watched her grandmother do needlework and secretly practiced a few times, but was caught and beaten by her mother a few times.

Her exact words were, “What money can you make from mending and patching? Don’t waste your time. Hurry up and go to the mountains to dig up medicinal herbs. Medicinal herbs are valuable.”

In Lin's mother's eyes, it was a sin for her to sit still, and learning anything was a waste of time.

Her daughter has to study in a classroom, while Lin Yue is only fit to earn money to support her family under the sun and wind.

Lin Yue was distracted by thoughts of the past, and the needle pierced her finger hard. She quickly pulled it out, and without any expression, continued to practice sewing.

Huo Qingyan, who was oiling the sewing machine, glanced at her coldly. The little girl next to her was screaming in pain because she had accidentally pricked her finger, but Lin Yue didn't even blink.

After lunch, everyone went back to their dormitories to rest. Huo Qingyan went to the workshop to retrieve the tools he had left behind that morning and saw Lin Yue still sitting there sewing that piece of cloth.

Seeing her serious and focused expression, Huo Qingyan stopped and leaned against the wall, looking at her with deep eyes.

He took a wad of paper out of his pocket, turned around and threw it behind him. The wad of paper landed precisely on the table in front of Lin Yue.

Lin Yue was startled, her hand trembled, and she looked around but didn't see anyone.

Gently unfold the crumpled paper, and your eyes instantly light up.
