Chapter 5: Bitten by a fly

Gu Lingzhi was startled, and her scalp tingled. She looked down and thankfully saw that the hand that was grabbing her didn't have any wounds.

She turned her head and realized that the person she had thought was unconscious had not been asleep at all.

Meeting those dark eyes, Gu Lingzhi's expression was clear, and she even smiled apologetically at him.

The man was clearly taken aback.

The arguing outside the military tent was quite intense: "No, you can't step into this tent. Besides, the person in bed is seriously ill. If you catch a cold because of this, the prince will definitely not forgive you."

"We'll just take a look, and we won't disturb you, okay?"

Gu Lingzhi was a little nervous. She glanced at the patient beside her. It was somewhat inappropriate for her to be lying on someone's bed in this state.

Moreover, the slightest sound or movement he makes will attract the attention of those outside.

Just then, the person lying on the bed, whose body was covered in sores, suddenly coughed.

The argument outside came to a conclusion, with the soldier guarding the tent ultimately emerging victorious. "The man lying in here is the prince's savior. If anything were to happen to him, ten of your heads wouldn't be enough to pay for it!"

The area outside the military tent instantly became quiet.

Gu Lingzhi didn't know who this person was, but he had clearly been helping her just now.

Seeing that the curtain had been lowered, she lowered her voice and whispered in his ear, "If I come back alive, I'll heal you. Consider this a favor I owe you."

Gu Lingzhi released his hand.

Jumping off the bed, Gu Lingzhi lifted the curtain of the military tent and glanced outside.

The military camp was vast, and all she could see was a small corner. Gu Lingzhi frowned, standing at the entrance of the military tent with a headache.

It would be difficult for her to escape.

Because this is the very center of the military camp, the guards are a bit lax. But if you go any further, there are guards every ten steps and sentries every five steps, so it's hard for even a bird to fly out.

After pondering for half an hour in the military tent, the man who had previously driven away the two guards returned, carrying a tray with a bowl of porridge and a bowl of medicine.

Gu Lingzhi hid on the inside of the bed again, and the injured man did not make a sound.

"Take your medicine," the soldier said, then lifted the curtain and approached.

The curtain was slowly pulled open, and Gu Lingzhi held her breath. Just as the soldier was about to look up and see her, she made a decisive move and knocked him unconscious.

With a clatter, the medicine bowl in the soldier's hand fell to the ground, spilling the medicine onto the floor beside the bed, releasing a strong, pungent odor that mingled with the air.

Gu Lingzhi smelled the medicine and raised her eyebrows slightly, saying, "This bowl of medicine is indeed good, but unfortunately, it cannot cure your illness."

Upon hearing her words, a somewhat burning gaze seeped over from the bed. Gu Lingzhi turned her head and saw that the person, who was clearly ill and had no will to live, had her originally dark eyes light up.

That urge to survive made Gu Lingzhi feel a little embarrassed.

But she still explained earnestly, "You should know who I am. There are people trying to arrest me everywhere. I'm afraid I can't even take care of myself."

Upon hearing this, the man's eyes, which had previously flashed with brilliance, dimmed. He opened his somewhat chapped lips, but no sound came out.

Gu Lingzhi narrowed her eyes, knowing that the toxins in his body were taking effect, and even his mouth was ulcerating. The pain was enough to break a person's spirit, and it was truly remarkable that she could endure it for so long.

She couldn't help but feel a pang of pity.

Since they were both in the same boat, it was fate that she was able to meet him here. Gu Lingzhi didn't mind helping him alleviate his pain.

She looked around, took a pen from the corner, and wrote a line on the table: "This is a prescription. Although it cannot cure your illness, it is very effective in relieving your pain."

Gu Lingzhi didn't want to save him; it's just that there's no such thing as saving a person's life simply by prescribing medicine.

He was poisoned and not only had to take an antidote to remove the toxins, but he also had to clean up all the festering wounds.

Otherwise, in this dry and windy late autumn, one could die at any moment from an outbreak of inflammation.

After putting down the prescription, Gu Lingzhi stepped out of the military tent, but she had not gone far when she heard a cold laugh coming from the side.

"You little bitch, we've finally found you!"

Suddenly hearing a effeminate voice, Gu Lingzhi turned around abruptly.

Unexpectedly, Eunuch Li had been guarding the outside of these tents with his men. Gu Lingzhi was deeply moved by how much he cared about her.

Knowing she couldn't escape, Gu Lingzhi wasn't in a hurry: "It seems that Eunuch Li is quite skilled at guarding the gate."

That's a dog guarding the door.

Eunuch Li was so angry he saw stars, but he held back and, to avoid affecting his image, gave the order directly.

"Throw her into our lowly military brothel!"

"Yes!"

Gu Lingzhi watched the two men approach, her eyes wary and tinged with a hint of malice: "Don't come any closer, or I'll shout right here that you molested me!"

The two guards were stunned by Gu Lingzhi's words.

When Gu Lingzhi saw that Eunuch Li was about to make a sarcastic remark, she immediately stopped him from saying anything.

With her arms crossed over her chest, Gu Lingzhi didn't look like an exploited female slave at all.

"I did climb into your prince's bed, after all. If your prince found out that a fly had bitten off a piece of cake he had eaten, wouldn't he just swat the fly to death?"

That's a really apt analogy.

Gu Lingzhi's words caused Eunuch Li's face to turn pale and then red. "Take her away!"

The two guards indeed stopped touching her, and one of them led the way.

Gu Lingzhi followed leisurely behind, and soon they came to a somewhat desolate and dilapidated military tent.

The military tent was full of thin, bony women. Gu Lingzhi was pushed and almost fell.

When she turned around, the two guards had already disappeared.

Seeing the red marks on her neck, the women's eyes were filled with numbness. Gu Lingzhi's eyes flickered slightly, and she found a place to sit down.

Just then, a somewhat lewd-looking man scanned the inside of the tent, glanced in Gu Lingzhi's direction, and suddenly walked straight towards her.

A lewd glint lurked in his eyes as he rubbed his hands together. He held a steamed bun in his hand and approached Gu Lingzhi with a smile.

"My little beauty, are you hungry?"

Several people stopped eating and stared blankly at Gu Lingzhi.

Gu Lingzhi sensed the lewd look in the man's eyes, and she touched the dagger hidden in her sleeve.

The man looked displeased when he saw that she didn't react.

"Raise your head and let this soldier have a good look at you!"

Gu Lingzhi didn't move.

The man suddenly grabbed Gu Lingzhi's clothes and dragged her behind a curtain.

A murderous glint appeared in Gu Lingzhi's dark eyes.

The man was very strong, and she didn't react in time before being thrown to the ground.

A sharp pain shot through her back, and her whole body felt like it was falling apart. Gu Lingzhi bit her lower lip and glared at him angrily.

"My little beauty, if you behave well, I'll feel more comfortable. I've never seen anyone as beautiful as you in my entire life!"

The man grinned lewdly and reached out to touch Gu Lingzhi's face.

Gu Lingzhi turned her head away from his hand, her eyes fixed on him: "I am your prince's person. You can ask around and find out who served your prince last night!"

The man paused for a moment, then looked at Gu Lingzhi with a mocking smile.

The lewd man lowered his head slightly: "Little beauty, I'm only sparing your life out of pity. If you behave yourself, you might get to enjoy yourself a bit..."

Gu Lingzhi understood that this person was acting under someone else's orders and would not let her go today.

It's obvious who instigated this; how could the Third Prince's wife possibly tolerate her living peacefully on the frontier?

The look in Gu Lingzhi's eyes turned cold!

Before Gu Lingzhi could even react, the man pounced on her fiercely.
