Chapter 28 A Dead End

“Eunuch Li, he’s just an ordinary doctor. Of course he wouldn’t be able to detect such a serious injury.”

When the doctor saw someone pleading for him, he turned around and saw a woman covered in blood.

Although he looked somewhat surprised, he still cautiously echoed her.

"Yes...this person...is right!"

Gu Lingzhi narrowed her eyes slightly as she watched the doctor trembling with fear.

Her actions wouldn't cost an ordinary person their life.

As for curing the dead eunuch...

Hmph, how could that be?

Having already made up her mind, Gu Lingzhi spoke very tactfully.

"Eunuch Li should have witnessed my methods. Now you have two options in front of you. One is for me to operate on you and directly remove the blood clots in your lungs and internal organs. The other is to take medicine. However, the former will heal faster, while the latter will be slower."

Eunuch Li naturally had his own plans, and he certainly wouldn't dare let Gu Lingzhi actually operate on him.

"If you cure our family, we'll be in a good mood and might even spare your life. Give her the pen and ink, and let her prescribe the medicine!"

The pen and ink were already prepared.

Gu Lingzhi narrowed her eyes, a cold smile flashing across them.

The medicine prescribed by her would naturally be tested for poison when Eunuch Li drank it; it would be absolutely impossible for her to prescribe poison directly.

Although she was weak and her handwriting was crooked, Gu Lingzhi still managed to write out the prescription.

Eunuch Li nodded in satisfaction.

"Take her to another room first, and have someone apply medicine to her. If anyone makes her run away again this time, they'll come back to our house with their head in their hands."

"Yes, father-in-law!"

Gu Lingzhi gained a brief respite.

Because Li Gonggong's life was still closely related to hers, these people dared not do anything to her this time. She had been lying on the bed for a short while when a little maid dressed in ordinary house clothes was shoved into the room.

The girl walked over with her head down, holding a box of ointment.

She still had a fever, but naturally no one paid any attention to it.

Feeling dizzy and unable to muster the energy to do anything, Gu Lingzhi lay motionless on the bed, only occasionally lifting her eyelids to glance at the maid.

The maid lifted the clothes off Gu Lingzhi's arm.

The red, swollen, and purplish welts from the whip were very noticeable against her snow-white skin.

Because some whips have barbs, some of the wounds are severe, even bloody and mangled.

The little girl's hands trembled as she applied the medicine.

The medicine had a strange smell, but Gu Lingzhi couldn't smell it at all because of her fever.

Gu Lingzhi raised her eyelids slightly and, seeing that the little maid was hesitant to touch the wound, said in a hoarse voice, "It doesn't hurt, go ahead and do it."

Does it hurt?

She was trembling all over from the pain.

The stinging pain spread from the wound throughout her body, but she no longer had the strength to even groan.

The little maid seemed to have received permission, and tears streamed down her face. Gu Lingzhi couldn't help but want to laugh when she saw her expression.

Isn't she in cahoots with Eunuch Li? What's with that expression on her face? Sympathy?

But she couldn't leave the wound untreated; she didn't want to die from an infection.

The powdered wound medicine, sprinkled on the raw, gaping wound, immediately made Gu Lingzhi hesitate in pain.

But she still didn't make a sound.

There weren't many wounds on his front; most of them were concentrated on his back.

She knelt down, letting the maid apply medicine to each of her wounds, feeling that she still had a chance to be saved.

Pain is something you get used to after a while. Gu Lingzhi didn't know when she fell asleep.

When she woke up, she was dressed in a new set of clothes, though they were a little askew. Gu Lingzhi had a headache, but her forehead wasn't hot; her fever had subsided.

Although her body is frail, her vitality is still very strong, so it seems that she is unlikely to die under normal circumstances.

Gu Lingzhi narrowed her eyes and noticed that there were other people in the room. She glanced at the little girl standing not far away and slowly sat up from the bed.

Upon seeing that she was awake, the thin little maid came over and handed her a bowl of water.

She made a gesture without making a sound. Sensing her discomfort, Gu Lingzhi looked up and discovered that the little girl had lost half of her tongue.

The wound had healed, but the other person could only make sounds and couldn't utter a complete sentence.

Seeing this, Gu Lingzhi concealed the murderous intent in her eyes.

The door was pushed open, and a tall man stood in the doorway looking at Gu Lingzhi with a fierce expression: "Your father-in-law wants you to come over."

She responded lightly, and the maidservant tried to help her up, but Gu Lingzhi waved her away.

Gu Lingzhi was wearing simple coarse cloth clothes. Although the fabric chafed her wounds and it hurt a lot, at least it could cover her body.

She followed the man out, where a number of people were already standing in the hall outside.

Sitting on the soft couch carried by two people, Eunuch Li seemed much more energetic; the tightness and pain in his chest had subsided.

He smiled at Gu Lingzhi with great satisfaction: "I took the medicine you prescribed this morning, and it worked very well."

Gu Lingzhi lowered her head, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes. She glanced at Eunuch Li, who was drinking tea, and said calmly, "Of course it's useful!"

"How long do we need to take this medicine? Will we recover?"

"About a month!"

Eunuch Li seemed to be deep in thought, a hint of malice flashing in his eyes: "I see. Now that we have the prescription, we don't need to keep you here. Today is your last day. If you still don't sign... then you'll only have one way out: death."

Eunuch Li waved his hand.

Suddenly, several guards appeared at the door, each of them holding a fierce-looking wolfhound on a leash.

Eunuch Li smiled slyly, eager to see Gu Lingzhi's panicked and frightened expression: "These wolfhounds have been starving for two days. What do you think will happen if we let you pass?"

Gu Lingzhi suddenly raised her head and looked into Eunuch Li's eyes: "What does Eunuch Li mean by this?"

Eunuch Li pointed to the petition on the table beside him: "If you obediently sign this petition, I'll leave you with a whole corpse!"

As they were talking, someone had already placed a tray not far from her.

The tray was fully stocked with a white silk ribbon, a dagger, and a small bottle.

Gu Lingzhi glanced at it, then looked up. Her tone was calm, as if she hadn't been frightened by the threat of death: "Eunuch Li, since it's all the same path to death anyway, why should I choose it?"

With a helpless expression, Eunuch Li said, "If that's what you think, then men, throw her into the dog puddle!"

Immediately, someone stepped forward and grabbed Gu Lingzhi's arm. Two people held her shoulders on either side, preventing her from struggling. They were about to throw her in front of the wolfhounds, who began to howl and bark wildly, their eyes filled with a terrifying madness.

She tried her best to delay the two men, her forehead beaded with cold sweat, calculating the time it would take for the poison to take effect.

She was dragged to the doorway, where one of the dogs was right next to her, its mouth snapping against the hem of her skirt. The two people behind Gu Lingzhi, naturally ignoring this, saw her pale face and tried even harder to push her over.

Just then, Eunuch Li, who had been sitting properly on the bed, coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Yesterday he was only coughing up blood, but today he's actually spitting it out.

The bright red stain fell to the ground, and everyone was stunned. Even the two men holding Gu Lingzhi captive stopped in their tracks.

Seeing the wolfhound about to pounce on her, Gu Lingzhi breathed a sigh of relief.

She slowly turned around and glanced at Eunuch Li's face.

A hint of purple appeared at the corner of the other person's lips; it was immediately obvious that they had been poisoned.

Gu Lingzhi smiled and her eyes crinkled.

"Eunuch Li, how does this poison taste?"

"you……"

With a panicked and breathless state, Eunuch Li pointed a trembling finger at Gu Lingzhi and angrily shouted, "You poisoned her?"

Gu Lingzhi sneered, "Don't your subordinates know whether I poisoned her or not?"

She kindly brought this up, and many people's expressions changed.

The faces of the men who had previously tested the poison turned green instantly. They quickly knelt before Eunuch Li and explained, "Your Excellency, we have already checked, and there is really no poison in the medicine!"

Gu Lingzhi found it quite amusing to see the two sides fighting like dogs.

Although the medicine she prescribed seemed unremarkable and even beneficial to Eunuch Li's injuries, this was contingent on Eunuch Li not drinking the green sunflower tea.

Some things may not be poisonous at first, but when they come together, they become highly toxic.

"Kill her! Kill her for our family!"

Eunuch Li panicked completely. He shouted as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. He tried to cover it with his hand, but it soon soaked his front.

When Gu Lingzhi saw this scene, a cold glint flashed in her eyes.

"If you kill me, there will be no one to cure your poison!"

Only then did Eunuch Li realize the hidden meaning in her words: "You did this on purpose. It was all a trap you set?"

Gu Lingzhi remained noncommittal and offered no explanation: "Give me a fast horse, a thousand taels of silver, and some dry rations, immediately!"

"You wicked woman, how can I trust you?"

Gu Lingzhi chuckled: "Believe it or not, I will have someone deliver the antidote prescription to the military camp three days after we are safe. If I accidentally die during that time, well... then I'll have to trouble you to go to hell with me!"

Her lips curved slightly, her face radiating confidence.

Eunuch Li's beardless face was deathly pale, and his voice was shrill: "Hmph, if I let you go, where will I find you? Men, seize her! If she doesn't hand over the antidote, today I'll let all of you taste her flavor."

At Eunuch Li's command, the eyes of the guards who had been eyeing Gu Lingzhi for a long time immediately lit up.

Suddenly, a person tumbled and crawled in through the door: "Sir, something terrible has happened! We're surrounded!"
