Chunhua was still unsure and wanted to look back, but Wen Yuanshu stopped her: "Alright, such a rare night view, just enjoy it and don't keep looking back."

"Can--"

"What do you mean 'but'? Enjoy the scenery. Who would dare to make a move in the palace?" Wen Yuanshu patted her hand and moved a step to the side. "Alright, don't stand so close to me. You're practically touching me. It's uncomfortable."

Chunhua sighed and had no choice but to stand there obediently.

"Mother!" Pei Zhicheng's voice suddenly rang out.

Wen Yuanshu and Chunhua both subconsciously turned their heads to look, and saw Pei Zhicheng running towards them with a smile.

Chunhua felt doubtful.

Is he calling Wen Yuanshu?

When did Pei Zhicheng ever call Wen Yuanshu that?

Pei Zhicheng ran up to her with a smile, but somehow slipped and bumped straight into Wen Yuanshu.

"lady!"

A series of exclamations rose from the shore.

Wen Yuanshu's body fell uncontrollably, and her vision gradually blurred.

The moonlight is so bright tonight that it's almost blinding when viewed from underwater.

Suddenly, a figure broke through the blinding light and came toward her.

The man was incredibly fast; in the blink of an eye, Wen Yuanshu was in his arms.

The person's face was covered by half a ferocious beast mask, making her look like a demon in the dark water. Then she swam upwards.

The two emerged from the water, Wen Yuanshu coughing incessantly while leaning on Lu Chengyuan's shoulder. She only calmed down after being patted twice on the back by Lu Chengyuan when they were taken ashore.

The women surrounded Wen Yuanshu in layers, and before she could react, she was covered up completely by several cloaks, which concealed her disheveled state.

Many people had already taken off half of their cloaks, but stopped when they saw that she already had enough cloaks.

"I'm taking Lady Hou to the Imperial Hospital. Please make way," Lu Chengyuan said, as he picked her up, cloak and all, and carried her slowly.

"Commander," a guard in embroidered uniforms hurriedly spoke up, "what should we do with this man?"

Pei Zhicheng was being held down by two embroidered guards, his shoulders pressed to the ground, half of his face covered in mud, and the fear on his face had not yet subsided.

He couldn't understand it. He had only bumped into Wen Yuanshu, and although he did intend to knock her into the lake, it shouldn't have been enough for the two of them to immediately push him into the mud!

He's still just a kid!

The old lady, Pei Zeyu, and Xie Qianjiao rushed over upon hearing the commotion, only to hear an extremely cold voice: "Take him under custody and await further instructions."

Lu Chengyuan strode away, heading straight for the Imperial Hospital.

The Imperial Medical Academy was very large, with some well-maintained empty buildings. Lu Chengyuan settled the people in and then summoned the imperial physicians.

The imperial physician came over and examined her carefully. He said, "Madam Hou is fine. She was just frightened and caught a chill because the lake water is cold in autumn. I will make her a bowl of ginger soup. Madam Hou can drink it."

Lu Chengyuan was relieved. After the imperial physician left, he pulled up a chair and sat down by the bed: "Did you take any spare clothes with you when you went out? I'll have someone fetch them."

Wen Yuanshu nodded: "Chunhua knows where it is."

The shadows of the trees outside moved, as if someone had left.

A short while later, the imperial physician brought over ginger soup, which Wen Yuanshu held in her bowl and sipped slowly.

Lu Chengyuan stared at her for a long time before finally unable to hold back and said, "Your house is really lively. Even a young boy like him is so unruly. He dared to lay a hand on you in the palace. What are you still doing at his house? Aren't you afraid of losing your life one day?"

His words clearly separated Wen Yuanshu from the Marquis of Anyuan's mansion.

He paused, then said, "Are you really that devoted to that Pei guy?"

Wen Yuanshu glanced at him but didn't say anything.

Her attitude was tantamount to acquiescence. Lu Chengyuan got up irritably and paced back and forth in front of the bed twice: "What kind of bewitching drug did that family give you? Since you're in the Imperial Hospital, why don't I find a few more imperial physicians to come and take a look at you!"
