The servants behind them followed suit, and they went along with Chunhua as well.
Wen Rang arrived early and had already arranged everything; the group went to the private room together.
The private room had already been warmed by a brazier, and even with the window open, it wasn't cold as long as you didn't get too close.
The two sat down and ordered their own dishes. A short while later, the waiter brought over the food.
The dishes at You Ran Ju are a bit lighter than those outside. Strangely enough, even the meat dishes always have a unique flavor, like the aroma of some kind of grass or wood. The taste is much fresher than ordinary meals outside.
"Miss Wen, don't you often come here to eat?" Wen Rang asked.
Wen Yuanshu nodded.
Upon hearing this, Wen Rang called over the waiter and brought out several more dishes.
"Young Master Wen, didn't you just return to the capital? How come you are so familiar with this restaurant?" Wen Yuanshu asked.
“You Ran Ju also has businesses in other places,” Wen Rang said with a smile. “Although different chefs cook slightly different dishes, the signature dishes are always pretty much the same.”
"I see."
Soon, all the signature dishes were served, and the two enjoyed their meal while admiring the snow outside.
"Miss Wen, have some water," Wen Rang said, handing her a teacup.
Wen Yuanshu thanked him and had just taken the teacup from his hand. Before he could even drink from it, the door to the private room was pushed open.
The man outside looked travel-worn, his black brocade robes almost losing their former luster, his head, body, and even his eyelashes were covered in snowflakes, and his chin was covered in stubble. When he looked at Wen Rang, the coldness in his dark eyes seemed even more frigid than the wind and snow outside.
Upon seeing him, Wen Yuanshu was immediately surprised: "What are you doing here?"
Lu Chengyuan strode forward, squatted down beside her, and then looked up slightly to meet her eyes.
His eyes were bloodshot, filled with pain that he could not hide.
When she met his gaze, Wen Yuanshu felt a slight tremor in her heart.
She had never seen Lu Chengyuan like this before.
"Who is he?" Lu Chengyuan asked, his voice hoarse. "Are you going to abandon me again, just like last time?"
Wen Yuanshu was taken aback: "What are you talking about?"
"Last time, you stayed in the capital for a while and then broke off your engagement with me. Now that we're not engaged yet, and I'm no longer in your way, are you planning to marry him directly?"
His expression betrayed his dejection, like a large dog that knew it was about to be abandoned, blinking its wet eyes and begging its owner to soften.
Wen Yuanshu awkwardly looked away: "Young Master Wen, I'm so sorry, we have to go now."
With that, Wen Yuanshu got up and pulled Lu Chengyuan away.
Lu Chengyuan lagged behind by a step and glanced at Wen Rang.
That single glance revealed a fierce glint, a chilling intent to kill.
Wen Rang's attendant even subconsciously took a step to the side, blocking Wen Rang's way, fearing that Lu Chengyuan would suddenly attack and kill him in the next second.
But Lu Chengyuan did nothing.
He obediently followed Wen Yuanshu away.
Watching the two figures leave, Wen Rang's eyes darkened slightly, a hint of loneliness flashing across them.
Meanwhile, Wen Yuanshu pulled Lu Chengyuan into the carriage: "Why did you suddenly come back without any prior notice?"
Lu Chengyuan held the person in his arms, took two deep breaths, and then said, "I missed you."
Because he missed her, he worked almost day and night during his time away from the capital, managing to finish everything in just half a month and rush back.
"Who is he?"
“The young master of the Duke of Li,” Wen Yuanshu said, “I met him once when I first came to the capital a few years ago, and I ran into him again a few days ago.”
Wen Yuanshu tilted her head and looked at his expression: "He sent me some things these past few days, and I was thinking of treating him to a meal to settle things."
"thing?"
Lu Chengyuan lowered his eyes to meet his gaze: "What is it?"
"Just some... kittens and puppies and stuff."
"Kittens and puppies?" Lu Chengyuan's eyebrows twitched.
Back at the General's Mansion, Wen Yuanshu took out the jade carvings she had collected over the past few days: "Here, these are all."
