Chapter 281 The Red Thread of Love
Ning Zhi took a bank card out of her bag and handed it to Su Youzi.
"This is a small token of my mother's affection. There's a hundred million in the card; it's my little treasure trove, for your protection."
Su Youzi was stunned and quickly waved her hand.
"Mom, no need, I have money."
Ning Zhi shoved the card into her hand. "How much money do you have? Take it."
Su Youzi stuffed the card back into Ning Ta's pocket and said, "Liang Hong swallowed my money, and most of it will be returned."
He then added, "Moreover, I write novels and earn quite a bit of money from them."
Ning Zhi looked at her in surprise, "Writing novels?"
"Mm." Su Youzi nodded.
Ning Zhi looked at her, her eyes filled with relief.
"Our pomelos are amazing."
"So, please keep the money. I really don't need it." Su Youzi said earnestly, her eyes sincere. "If I need money in the future, I will definitely ask you for it."
"Okay." Ning Zhi put away the card, then reached out and hugged Su Youzi, gently patting her back.
"No matter what, Mom will always be your strongest support."
Su Youzi leaned against her, feeling the maternal love she had lost and then regained.
She closed her eyes, and a single tear of happiness slid down her cheek.
Ning Zhi's memories welled up, and she sighed softly.
She patted Su Youzi's hand, her eyes glazed over, lost in memories.
“Back then, your father passed away, and I thought you were gone too.”
Ning Zhi's voice was choked with emotion.
She took a deep breath and continued, "Back then, I was completely desperate about this world. I was utterly hopeless and kept thinking, what's the point of leaving me all alone?"
She raised her hand and wiped her eyes. "I'm in a daze every day, like I've lost my soul."
Su Youzi remembered that Ning Zhi almost gave up her life back then.
“It’s your mother-in-law, Linlin.” Ningzhi’s voice carried a hint of gratitude.
“She was afraid I would do something rash, so she stayed with me every day.”
“She helped me with the contracts with film and television companies in the United States. Then, she and Xiaowei co-founded ‘Shuangxia Film and Television’.”
Su Youzi blinked, her mind racing.
"Shuangxia, was it... was it founded by you, Mom?"
Ning Zhi nodded. "Yes. Linlin wants me to have something to look forward to, so I don't overthink things all the time."
"It was after filming that I gradually recovered and regained the motivation to live."
"She saved my life."
She looked at Su Youzi with gentle eyes and teased, "Back when Linlin was in school, she kept saying she wanted to be in-laws with me. When I was pregnant with you, and they said it was a girl, she was overjoyed and immediately had someone write a marriage certificate, just waiting for you to be born."
"I have a marriage certificate with Hoshino?" Su Youzi blinked, her mouth slightly open, a strange feeling welling up inside her. "I remember he mentioned that he had a childhood betrothal."
"Yes, it's you." Ning Zhi tapped her nose, her eyes smiling. "Fate is truly predetermined. After all the twists and turns, you two got married."
She continued, "After you got married, Linlin was afraid that you would feel uncomfortable, so she specially asked someone to calculate the time and planned to burn the marriage certificate after the New Year, but she didn't have time to burn it yet."
She looked at Su Youzi, her eyes filled with relief, "I've found you again. Everything is just right."
Su Youzi blinked, processing the massive amount of information.
Her relationship with Duan Xingye was destined.
After a moment of silence, she sniffed. "Mom, this is unbelievable."
Ning Zhi gently stroked her hair. "Yes, fate is such a wonderful thing."
On the other side, the Duan family's old house.
Charlene held an antique wooden box in her hand, her fingertips gently stroking the intricate patterns on the lid.
Then, they knocked on Duan Xingye's door.
Duan Xingye came out of the gym, his forehead still covered in fine beads of sweat, and walked over curiously.
"Mom, are you looking for me?"
Charlene looked up and handed him the box, saying, "Take a look for yourself."
Duan Xingye took the box, raised an eyebrow, and opened it.
On the yellowed paper, the neat handwriting was clearly visible.
A smile gradually crept onto his lips as he put his arm around his mother's shoulder, his tone playful.
"Mom, isn't your son filial? I've fulfilled your biggest wish by making you and Aunt Zhizhi in-laws."
Charlene sighed, her eyes filled with emotion, "What a coincidence."
She gently patted Duan Xingye's hand, her tone carrying a warning.
“You’d better treat Yuzu well. If you don’t treat her well, your mother-in-law won’t let you off easily, and neither will I.”
Duan Xingye's smile gradually faded, his expression turned serious, and his eyes became firm.
"I won't give you that chance."
He gripped the marriage certificate tightly in his hand.
The red thread of love had already bound them tightly together.
-
Midtown.
The warm yellow light shone on the soft carpet, illuminating the figures of the mother and daughter.
They nestled in bed, chatting away.
We chatted about funny things from our childhood and about each other over the years.
The wall clock had already pointed to three in the morning.
The mother and daughter lay on the soft bed, embracing each other as they slept.
Feeling the warmth emanating from her mother, Su Youzi felt a sense of security and quickly drifted off to sleep.
Ningzhi's tears slid down her cheeks. She gently patted her shoulder and hummed a lullaby, as if soothing a baby.
The next morning.
The sunlight woke the sleeping mother and daughter.
Chen Yan and Duan Xingye drove to Zhongcheng separately.
Su Youzi and Ning Zhi bid each other a reluctant farewell in front of the small villa.
"Mom, see you in Shenzhen." Su Youzi hugged Ning Zhi tightly, her eyes slightly red.
Ning Zhi gently patted her back, her reluctance clearly visible in her eyes, "Okay, call me when you get home."
"Hmm." Su Youzi sniffed and released Ning Zhi.
After watching Ning Zhi and Chen Yan get into their car and leave, Su Youzi turned and walked towards Duan Xingye's car.
"Why are you two each driving a car?" she asked curiously.
Duan Xingye started the car with a smile and explained, "I went to pick up Uncle Chenyan, and he came to pick me up too. We happened to meet on the road, so both of our cars came."
Su Youzi laughed and teased, "You guys really have no chemistry."
"Everyone's eager to pick up their wives." Duan Xingye raised an eyebrow, then took out an antique-looking wooden box from the glove compartment and handed it to her.
"what is this?"
Su Youzi curiously took the box, opened it, and found a yellowed piece of paper inside, covered with neat handwriting.
She carefully examined the contents, and gradually, her eyes welled up with tears.
"This is...our marriage certificate?"
Duan Xingye's lips curled into a mischievous smile as he reached out and pinched her cheek.
"That's right, my childhood sweetheart."
Su Youzi smiled and nodded sweetly.
Duan Xingye turned his head to look at her, took her hand, and kissed the back of her hand.
"No matter what, we are destined to be together."
