Red Dead Redemption: The Great Philanthropist of the West
Chapter 53: A Return Trip to Saint Denis
The following day, Henry instructed his old butler to meet with Mayor James to handle the land purchase for Allen College and Allen Ranch. Once that was done, he would contact the construction company that had built the Quaker Bay estate and have them continue building the college and ranch. The college should be modeled after Phillips Exeter College, but adapted to the local conditions. Construction should be completed as quickly as possible while maintaining quality; visitors would soon be coming to tour it. If manpower was insufficient, he would recruit some white and Chinese staff, treating them equally.
Henry, accompanied by Megan, went to see the three councilors from the east, west, and south to formally sign the documents establishing Blackwater. He then handed Megan a detailed plan he had prepared based on the future development of the world, entrusting her with handling Blackwater's affairs on his behalf. Thanks to William's careful guidance and the girl's considerable talent and attentiveness, although she couldn't yet be completely independent, she was more than capable of being an executor.
The other three, after seeing Henry's simplified plan, were full of praise and glad they had joined Blackwater. They each sent their capable assistants to help Megan.
After finishing these tasks, Henry returned to Allen Ranch and met the Calander brothers and Jenny, who were recovering from their injuries.
Mike was still lying in bed, his face pale, staring blankly out the window, his gaze occasionally drifting to the liquor shelf beside the windowsill. He wanted a drink, but David wouldn't allow it; Dr. Jones had said drinking would hinder his recovery. David sat quietly beside Mike, reading a book, his left shoulder also wrapped in a bandage.
Jenny, leaning on her cane, limped to the edge of the horse farm, her eyes fixed on a pure white Arabian horse leisurely grazing on grass.
She didn't notice Henry until he walked up to her. "Stop staring, that's my Snowy. If you want a horse, I'll give you a rose-grey Arabian horse once you're healed, or you can have any other breed you want." Henry whistled, and Snowy, hearing this, ran over as soon as she saw it was Henry. Henry groomed her fur while feeding her some fine feed.
The little girl was startled by the sudden voice, but realizing it was Henry, her eyes lit up, and she exclaimed with delight, "Henry, you finally remembered me, your patient!" Then, realizing that Henry had just offered to give her a horse, she happily asked:
"Really? Henry, are you really going to give me a horse? I heard this breed of horse is really expensive."
At this moment, the little girl had cut her long hair short for some reason, and she actually looked quite dashing.
“Of course, now that I’m rich, it’s no problem for me to buy my sister a horse. And why did you cut your hair so short? You look quite energetic.” Jenny’s eyes dimmed a little when Henry called her sister, but she quickly recovered. It was good to have an older brother to rely on; she was no longer all alone.
“I want to say goodbye to the past and start a new life, so I need to have a sense of ritual. Isn’t it beautiful? I spent a long time thinking about how to trim it. You said you would take me in, so don’t go back on your word.”
"Of course, once you've recovered from your injury, you can work with Megan as her assistant. I'm currently setting up a private school. Once the school is built, you can go there to study and teach children to read and write. After you've learned from your teacher, you can then choose your own career based on your interests."
He took Jenny back to the Calander brothers and talked to them about the big heist, asking them about their future plans and whether they would be willing to leave the gang and come help out here.
“Henry, if you need us and are willing to take us in, we’d like to stay and work for you. However, we all have bounties on our heads, and we’re worried that it might cause you trouble,” David said after a moment’s thought.
"As long as you're willing to stay, don't worry about the bounty. In a couple of days, I'll have someone get you new identities, and then have two thugs who look similar to you in build to take your place. After trial, they'll be executed and the news will be published. You can live peacefully under your new identities from now on. Just don't go robbing anymore, okay?"
"If it could really be like that, that would be great. But it's going to be very difficult. How much will it cost? Henry, just tell me then, and we'll cover it ourselves. You just need to take care of things for us. We brothers were forced onto this path back then. Who would want to be hunted down every day if they could live a peaceful life? We've been on the run or on the run for years, and we're tired of it. But we're powerless to change it."
We only followed Dutch because he said he'd take us to a utopian place where nobody knew us. But over the years, I've slowly started to feel something's off, though I can't quite put my finger on it. Every time we think about our last chance, another one pops up. We've long since acquired the capital to buy land and become ranchers, and I don't know what Dutch is thinking.”
"Don't worry about the specifics of how it's done, I'll handle it. You'll see it in the newspapers when it's successful. In a couple of days, once Mike has recovered a bit more, you and Jenny can move to the Guy's Bay estate to recuperate. It's a better, more comfortable, and safer place."
There are now over twenty guards at the manor, all retired elite soldiers and skilled bounty hunters recruited by Robert. If you're bored, you can go fishing by the river and help train these guards, teaching them shooting skills and enemy tactics. We'll talk about the rest after you've recovered.”
After explaining things to David and the others, Henry, Li Yi, and Zhang Wei went directly to Blackwater Wharf and boarded a ship bound for Saint Denis.

Meanwhile, after several days of fleeing, the Van der Linde gang had temporarily shaken off their pursuers and set up camp near Lake Ovanjira. However, the atmosphere in the camp was somber, and everyone looked exhausted, silently and mechanically going about their tasks.
Sean, the Calander brothers, and Jenny haven't returned yet, and everyone realizes something must have happened. Besides John, who was slightly injured in Blackwater, Charles, who only joined the gang a few months ago, was also injured in Pinkerton yesterday while covering for the others, and can no longer hunt for supplies.
To make matters worse, the $15 stolen from Blackwater was never brought back, and even most of the gang's accumulated wealth over the years was missing. The money had always been kept by Dutch, who said that during the pursuit, while he was covering the retreat and fighting off the pursuers, he wasn't near the carriage, and the money box might have fallen off a cliff due to the bumpy ride.
