Chapter 691: Look at this test paper, is it passing or failing? (64)

That evening's self-study session was unusually quiet.

Neither of them mentioned anything, or perhaps they didn't need to. They were both intelligent, and neither of them needed to.

Song Zhishu stopped recording; her slender figure was dimly lit under the lamp, illuminating her rubbing the tip of her pen.

“It’s time,” she smiled, slung her small backpack over her shoulder, and said, “Let’s go.”

Min Xiu then capped the pen and gave a soft "hmm".

We gazed at the stars and the moon all the way, yet the journey still seemed so long and arduous.

When they arrived, Song Zhishu wanted to talk to him as usual, even if it was just a solo performance, she would still enjoy it. But this time, Min Xiu took a step back, calmly looked at her, and gestured for her to go back.

Song Zhishu clenched her fists. Under the moonlight, her face, devoid of makeup, was like a thin veil of light and shadow, dreamlike and ethereal.

She nodded politely to him, then resolutely turned and went into the building.

Min Xiu raised his eyes and looked at the silent green mountains not far away.

It's as if nothing happened; tomorrow, everything will be the same.

He smiled slightly, then disappeared into the night.

How could I ruin my whole life because of him?

He's already lived a miserable life, why would he need to drag others along?

Consider it the only good thing I've ever done.

In the hazy moonlight, he seemed to hear a soft yet resilient voice.

"Xiao Min, you've done so many good things for Lao Wang, Teacher Xiao, and classmate Jiang! I'm so proud of you!"

He chuckled lightly in the wind, but it vanished in an instant, leaving only a faint trail of footsteps that faded into the line where the sky met the moonlight on the stone path.

Really? I don't remember.

Later, things became very complicated between them.

Even though nothing has changed, I still feel like something is changing.

They were all afraid of something—afraid of shattering a mirage.

But as autumn approached, a sudden change occurred: Xiao Lewei was kidnapped.

An Zheng was the one who discovered this. Xiao Lewei was used to going home at noon, and as a responsible partner, An Zheng would go to Xiao Lewei's building every day to buy her small gifts and pick her up for work in the afternoon. Later, when she was late, An Zheng panicked and went upstairs, only to find the place in a mess.

He was almost frantic, ordering his men to investigate the clues step by step, but to no avail. There were an unusually large number of clues, yet they were nowhere to be found.

In the end, he could only go to the school to find Song Zhishu and the others, and mobilize all available resources. They were naturally obliged to help, but to everyone's surprise, Min Xiu was the first to rush out.

His panic, loss of reason, and red-rimmed eyes were all so mesmerizing.

No one had ever seen him like this before, not even Song Zhishu.

In the original story, the kidnapping was carried out by Bai Chuqiang, Xiao Lewei's idiotic ex-boyfriend. However, the timing was much earlier, which made her wary.

Finally, following Song Zhishu's subtle hints, An Zheng and his men arrived at the remote, abandoned factory like a divine intervention. When Xiao Lewei was rescued, Bai Chuqiang was about to stab her in a fit of rage when An Zheng kicked him, causing him to vomit blood. Fortunately, Xiao Lewei was already unconscious; her clothes were disheveled, and her face was pale, but she was otherwise unharmed. On the way to the hospital, they encountered Min Xiuzhe, who was trembling and running around in a panic.

He stared blankly at the unconscious Xiao Lewei, the fierce aura lingering between his brows entwining him, making him feel like a ravenous ghost.

He asked her in a sinister voice, "Where is he?"

Song Zhishu gave him a deep look, realizing that he already knew who the murderer was.

She pointed to the location of the abandoned factory and said, "It's okay to vent, but don't do anything stupid."

His dull, lifeless pupils suddenly flashed with murderous intent. Without replying, he was consumed by a raging fire, his reason utterly destroyed, leaving nothing behind, which was utterly appalling.

He went on without looking back.

Song Zhishu lowered her eyes, her steps still quick, looking worriedly at the sickly Xiao Lewei on the stretcher.

Once everything was settled, Song Zhishu gave An Zheng some instructions, a fleeting glint in her resolute yet gentle eyes, before she stepped into the distance.

As dusk fell, several dark, thin openings appeared, from which emerged fragments of gull feathers and crow tails, like the occasional mournful cry of a hoarse oil lamp, layered on the tangled, swaying clouds at the edge, blending into a jumbled scene.

Song Zhishu walked step by step, with a hint of resolute determination that was hard to detect. The closer she got, the clearer her lonely figure became under the blazing sun, and the more her eyes welled up with tears.

She stopped in front of the boy sitting on the steps with his head down and back bent. A gust of wind rose, her skirt fluttered, and she leaped into the night with the white gulls.

Min Xiu's stiff fingers trembled slightly, and he didn't even look up at her: "You... lied to... me."

His voice was shockingly hoarse, as if each word was stained with blood, carrying a bone-chilling cruelty and fury, even more intense than when the two first met.

Song Zhishu wasn't as sad or scared as she had imagined. On the contrary...

She was too calm.

Like the transition from the fierce summer wind to the weak autumn wind.

She was so calm that even she herself could hardly believe it.

She slowly squatted down. She was already short, and now she was a step below him, so she had to look up to meet his gaze.

The dull, lifeless aura, the accumulated malice, and the long-suppressed killing intent within him all erupted powerfully upon seeing her face.

Min Xiu, however, did not back down. He bent down slightly and stared coldly into her eyes at close range. His undisguised hatred was like a venomous snake, but it was no longer like a cold blade passing by, killing without a trace. At this moment, even under the glow of the setting sun, his eyes were sticky and vicious.

His shallow breaths were all cool.

“Song Zhishu,” Min Xiu uttered softly, his fingers slightly curled. He wished he could grab her delicate, warm neck right now and cool down the blood that was beating inexplicably.

But he eventually stopped, though his tone was harsher, and he repeated, "You lied to me."

Something seemed to have been added inside. Song Zhishu looked at his handsome but pale face, as if deep in thought, or perhaps with a faint smile.

"What if we don't lie?"

She could have easily gotten away with it.

"Min Xiuze, what were you hiding back then?"

She shifted her gaze to the chillingly sharp dagger beside her, then chuckled softly, "So, who's lying to whom?"

"Min Xiuzhe, you don't know who ordered him, you don't know the whole story, can you really take responsibility for killing him?!" Her voice suddenly rose, her eyes red: "Do you think I don't know that you would definitely take his life as soon as you got the dagger?!"

Min Xiu stared intently at her face, which appeared desolate in the setting sun. "I'm asking you, if what I'm saying is true, is the person lying inside a corpse?!"

"Do you even know who's behind him?! This isn't your mission! You know absolutely nothing about him! If you're so capable, then risk your life!"
