Chapter 42: The Plan to Take Down the Commander (10)

"Miss, if we do this... won't Commander Ji scold us?" Yu'er suddenly came to her senses and asked with some worry.

Song Zhishu paused, lowered her eyes, and a hint of sadness crossed her face. However, she raised her head again, her previous sadness gone, and said softly, "He can do whatever he wants. Even if he scolded me..." Her eyes flickered, and she said softly, "It can prove to me that at least he doesn't not want to talk to me."

Yu'er was completely confused and was about to ask again when she realized that she was already far away from her young mistress. She had no choice but to swallow her words and quickly follow.

Ning Xi certainly wasn't short of money; even the gifts Ji Rong had given her were probably priceless. Therefore, Song Zhishu wasn't worried at all about Ning Xi not being able to repay the money. In the evening, Song Zhishu sat alone in the hall, with only one lamp lit, quietly drinking tea. Every now and then, she would glance up at the dark doorway, seemingly not seeing the person she was waiting for, and then look back at the steaming tea in her hand.

Sure enough, a short while later, Ji Rong stormed into the room, which he had only visited twice before. Seeing the person still leisurely drinking tea, his anger intensified. He clenched his fists, the veins on his forehead revealing his unstable emotions.

When Song Zhishu saw Ji Rong's gloomy face, she stood up in surprise, ran to him, and said with a smile, "Welcome."

Ji Rong frowned, his sharp eyes sweeping over her brightly smiling face, but he couldn't find anything wrong with her. He could only suppress his anger and ask, "Why?"

He didn't ask the rest of the question, but he believed the person on the other end could understand it.

Song Zhishu's smile remained unchanged, though the adoration in her eyes was replaced by melancholy. Nevertheless, she still smiled and said, "I'm just fulfilling the duties of a principal wife."

The words had barely left her lips when the cold muzzle of a gun was pressed against her forehead. Then came Ji Rong's chilling voice, warning her, "Song Zhishu, let me make this clear: just be a good Mrs. Ji and don't meddle in things that aren't your business... Don't force me."

Just as he holstered his gun and was about to leave, the person behind him suddenly whispered, "Are you trying to prove to me that you love Ning Xi, right?"

Ji Rong's tall and slender figure paused, then he turned to look at Song Zhishu, whose smile had widened, and suddenly felt a little unsure of what to do.

“But I’m telling you now.” She stepped forward, her eyes filled with an unprecedented determination: “Either you kill me today, or I’ll take over Mrs. Ji’s duties.” Her gentle aura suddenly changed, replaced by a chilling intensity.

The ever-perceptive Ji Rong sensed something was amiss. He coldly stared at the smiling Song Zhishu before him, wanting to say something but unable to utter a word. After a long while, he finally turned and left. But the words, "You try it," still echoed in the room.

The empty room was left with only Song Zhishu. She stood there blankly, the smile on her lips slowly fading, and two lines of clear tears flowed down her face, falling to the ground and disappearing without a sound.

She slowly walked to the dining table, looked at the cold food, shook her head, and still ate with a smile.

At the very least, he's willing to talk to you so much... isn't that enough?
