Chapter 97 (Yun Qiu) Contract Part 2
"No, it's not."
Chongyun's voice was hurried, and his face showed panic. He was eager to explain to Xingqiu. Because he was too nervous, his voice was a little stuttering.
Seeing Chongyun's behavior, Xingqiu realized that Chongyun wasn't what he had thought. His expression softened slightly, but he still pretended to be very angry as he looked at Chongyun.
"They are fine, I shouldn't disturb them."
"No, what I mean is that I shouldn't form a contract with them regardless of how strong they are. My intuition tells me that they are not suitable for me."
"No, that's not quite right... Anyway, I didn't look down on them because they were weak. ...I'm sorry, I didn't put it well."
Chongyun stood nervously in front of Xingqiu. Although he wanted to explain clearly, his mind was still a bit confused due to nervousness. His words were also incoherent.
After listening to Chongyun's explanation, Xingqiu reached out and touched Chongyun's head. The soft hair softened Xingqiu's expression. Xingqiu recalled distant memories; with the passage of time, the past pain had left only shallow scars. Yet, the memory still caused a dull ache.
"I see."
Looking at Xingqiu's gentle demeanor, Chongyun suddenly felt a pang of sadness and pulled Xingqiu into his arms. "I sense that you seem very sad."
Xingqiu was held blankly in Chongyun's arms. Despite his clumsy appearance, the boy had such a warm and perceptive heart. How strange, humans are strange, and the boy holding him is even stranger.
Xingqiu was only thinking about Chongyun's strangeness, but he didn't push him away. Xingqiu was somewhat fond of the warmth of Chongyun's body, a warmth he had never felt in his long life here. It was a little hot, but not unpleasant.
Chongyun hugged Xingqiu for a while before realizing she was embarrassed. Her face quickly turned red, and her neck even blushed slightly. Xingqiu took Chongyun and left without disturbing the demons, departing quietly as if they had never been there.
Xingqiu took Chongyun to many beautiful places in the valley.
They walked from the winding stream to where the lakes met, from the lush meadows to the vine-covered areas, and through the silent caves to a place teeming with small animals.
Whenever Xingqiu encounters something new or unusual, he explains to Chongyun what it is: brightly colored flowers, strangely shaped trees, and even fruits with strange tastes.
Chongyun was excited; this wondrous valley held so much beauty he had never seen before. Xingqiu simply watched the excited young man from behind, finding today's experience quite interesting as well. Just being by Chongyun's side made Xingqiu realize that the valley hadn't been this lively in a long time.
The two wandered in the valley for a day, and as evening approached, Xingqiu led Chongyun back to the lake near the cabin. They sat down side by side by the lake.
As the moon rises, the lake changes. Tiny specks of starlight gather above the water, and a light mist rises. It doesn't obstruct the view, but it's still quite beautiful.
As Chongyun observed the changes in the lake, Xingqiu poked Chongyun's arm with his finger. Chongyun turned to look at Xingqiu. Xingqiu simply gestured with his chin towards the lake.
"Look, didn't you ask if there were any fish during the day?"
Chongyun looked down at the water. Small fish, which he hadn't seen during the day, had appeared in the lake. They were about the size of a palm, entirely silvery-white, and looked quite clever. As if noticing Chongyun's gaze, the little fish fanned a small spray with its tail, landing precisely on Chongyun's face.
Chongyun pointed at the little fish in surprise and looked at Xingqiu. "It, it hit me with water."
Xingqiu laughed at Chongyun's disheveled appearance and casually wiped the water off Chongyun's face. The coolness made them both shiver.
"These little fish are very clever. They're also a bit mischievous."
Chongyun responded with a muffled "Mmm," his eyes fixed on Xingqiu. For some reason, Chongyun thought Xingqiu was very handsome the moment he saw him. By the lake at night, with fireflies twinkling in the air, Chongyun thought Xingqiu was even more handsome.
"You haven't managed to form a contract with a fairy all day, aren't you angry?" Xingqiu's expression was indifferent, revealing neither joy nor anger. Chongyun, however, instinctively sensed that this question was not simple.
Chongyun thought about it carefully, and then replied to Xingqiu, "I won't force it. I always feel that these things depend on fate. Even if I meet a fairy who is suitable for me, it depends on whether the other party agrees or not. It's not up to me to decide."
“I know some exorcists treat their demons badly, and some contracts are even mandatory. I don’t think that’s right. What I want are companions, companions who can help each other grow and protect each other.”
Xingqiu was somewhat stunned by Chongyun's answer, muttering "fate" to himself. Then, looking into Chongyun's clear eyes, he placed his fingers under her eyes, leaned in, and gently kissed her.
"Look at that field of irises, aren't they beautiful?"
Hearing Xingqiu's words, Chongyun didn't have time to feel shy about his kiss. Instinctively, she turned her head to look at the irises blooming beside the wooden house. She saw even more starlight swirling around the flowers, like a brilliant galaxy in the quiet, dim night.
"nice."
Chongyun murmured his reply to Xingqiu, then he noticed the fireflies on the flowers drawing closer to them. Finally, they all gathered around him, around Xingqiu. Chongyun heard Xingqiu's voice.
"I'm a fairy too. Would you like to make a contract with me?"
As the fireflies gathered, Xingqiu appeared unbelievably beautiful in Chongyun's eyes. Chongyun felt she would never forget the scene before her: the handsome young man, surrounded by fireflies, gently extended his hand to her.
Really like.
Chongyun slowly took Xingqiu's hand in hers. Her eyes, sparkling like fireflies, were filled with the joy of spring blossoms, as pure as ice and snow. She stared at Xingqiu, somewhat lost in thought.
As their hands clasped together, they chanted an ancient incantation. Fireflies gathered around Chongyun as the incantation began, and when it ended, an iris flower appeared in Chongyun's palm, then faded and disappeared.
"iris?"
Chongyun's voice was tinged with doubt. Xingqiu looked at Chongyun, and Chongyun's image appeared in his golden eyes.
"Hmm. You don't like it? Then I'll be very sad."
As Xingqiu spoke, his expression turned aggrieved, and he covered his eyes with his fingers, as if he was about to cry.
Chongyun quickly moved closer to Xingqiu, awkwardly trying to comfort him, afraid he would really cry. Xingqiu couldn't help but laugh at Chongyun's attempts to coax him. Chongyun realized he'd been tricked, but he wasn't angry. He rubbed his head and sat obediently to the side.
Fireflies continued to linger around them; their destiny had only just begun.
