Chapter 66 (Xiao Kong) Turning Around to Embrace the Sea 4

"Empty, empty, empty..."

Sora blushed a little at Xiao's call, as it was the word Xiao had learned to speak most fluently. Sora was also very patient, responding with "uh-huh" every time Xiao called him.

They spent the next few days together very well. A human and a merman got along exceptionally well. Kong taught Xiao a lot, and Xiao, like any student a teacher hopes for, learned very quickly and could even apply what he learned to other situations.

Xiao quickly became able to communicate well with Sora. Although Xiao was a man of few words, Sora already knew the exact character in Xiao's name. Xiao also learned some information about Sora: he was a fairly good painter and had a lovely twin sister.

The interaction between Sora and Xiao allowed their feelings to blossom rapidly, like a seed already planted in the soil that, once stimulated by their emotions, quickly grew into a towering tree.

As their time together slowly passed, the day arrived for Sora to return with the fleet. Sora didn't know how to tell Xiao that he was leaving; of course, he was reluctant to go. Therefore, Sora's expression would sometimes unconsciously pause, lost in thought.

Xiao clearly noticed the change in Sora, and naturally, he understood that Sora was about to leave.

Xiao was reluctant to leave; his nature compelled him to keep the human before him and not let him go. But his heart told him that Sora was a person who loved freedom, and he could not and should not be imprisoned in this ocean.

The merman's instincts resisted Sora's departure, and Xiao's restraint made him appear somewhat anxious. Sora, preoccupied with figuring out how to tell Xiao he was leaving, didn't notice Xiao's unusual behavior.

Seeing that Xiao seemed a little agitated, Sora simply assumed it was because he had been out of the water for too long and was uncomfortable. In situations like this, Sora would take Xiao to the rocks, where Xiao would soak in the seawater while Sora took off his shoes and socks and let the seawater wet his ankles.

Xiao looked at the considerate Sora and found it even harder to part with him. But he didn't show it; his eyes, however, remained fixed on Sora, watching him gleam in the sunlight.

Finally, on a sunny and gentle afternoon, Sora told Xiao that she was leaving.

"Xiao, I'm sorry, I'm leaving with the ship tomorrow. But I will definitely come back to see you."

Sora's eyes held both reluctance and guilt. Sora also loved Xiao very much, and the time they spent together was an unforgettable memory for him.

Xiao looked at Sora without saying a word, only lowering his head. Sora felt a pang of heartache at Xiao's reaction. This gentle merman never asked anything of him, only giving Sora what he could.

Kong sat down beside Xiao and hugged him. Human body temperature was much higher than that of merfolk, and Xiao felt as if he were melting into that embrace. It was so warm, like the campfire he had accidentally stumbled upon earlier. Only this embrace wasn't as scorching as the flames; this was a warm fire that belonged only to him.

Xiao quietly embraced the warm human, the frantic possessiveness that had been raging within him subsiding at that moment. He should be free; he should be a beautiful, free butterfly, not a delicate specimen displayed in a glass case.

Finally, Xiao touched Sora's cheek and told him gently, "I will remember you, I will never forget you."

Kong's eyes reddened slightly as he looked at the merman before him. A surge of emotion welled up inside him, overwhelming his reason.

"Are you an idiot? Why are you being so obedient!"

Sora pinched Xiao's face as if he were a little angry. Xiao's face wasn't soft, but it felt wonderful to the touch, like a precious gem hidden at the bottom of the sea, warm and smooth to the touch. Seeing Xiao's somewhat bewildered expression, Sora calmed down and told him emphatically, "I will come back to find you, I definitely will."

Xiao listened to Sora's answer, his eyes filled with expectation, and he nodded in response.

Time passed quickly, and the farewell between humans and merfolk was somewhat hasty, but they parted ways in a hurry. Sora was also a little puzzled as to why they had to leave in such a rush, only to receive a sigh from an elderly sailor.

"I'm in charge of monitoring the weather at sea. The weather has been too good lately, and I'm afraid there will be storms coming up. For safety's sake, let's head back as soon as possible."

Another sailor, overhearing their conversation, leaned over and said, "Don't worry, sir. He's the most experienced sailor on our ship. You can't go wrong listening to him."

Seeing the reactions of the others, some nodding and some agreeing, Sora had no choice but to help them pack, hoping to leave as soon as possible. After everything was packed, Sora stood on the deck of the ship, watching the island gradually disappear into the distance, feeling somewhat reluctant to leave.

Kūn touched the white mark on the back of his hand, gazing at the warm sunlight and calm sea in the distance, his restless heart gradually calmed down. It's okay, we'll meet again, we definitely will.

The return journey proceeded smoothly without any major problems; the people on board handled everything in an orderly manner. Sora wanted to help in some way, but unfortunately, there were no tasks assigned to him.

So he could only sit quietly in his own room on the ship, recording some of the things that happened on the island. Because he was thinking of Xiao, most of the records were about that handsome merman.

Sora wrote a lot, including scenes of their first meeting, some of the way he taught Xiao to draw, and Xiao holding various seashells he had never seen before and carefully placing them in front of him... Sora didn't know what the other merfolk were like, but he knew that Xiao was gentle and considerate.

Just thinking about the time spent with Xiao kept Sora smiling throughout her recording. During the time Sora was recording, the weather on the sea changed rapidly.

Dark clouds hung over the sky, and the calm on the sea was unsettling, with only a gentle breeze blowing softly.

Sora noticed the light had dimmed, closed his laptop, and walked out of the cabin onto the deck. He saw that there weren't many people on deck, and the entire ship was neatly organized, with cargo securely tied up, making the whole vessel look clean and tidy.

Sora approached the captain, who was still directing the sailors. The captain was quite serious and focused when facing the sailors, and it took him a while to notice Sora standing next to him. He was startled, then scratched his head and asked Sora a little embarrassedly.

"Young man, why did you come out? It's about to pour rain, but don't worry, we'll be at shore in about two hours. Everyone on the ship is very experienced, everything will be fine."

Because Sora had helped the captain before, and when the captain was sick, Sora found a friend to help him with treatment. Therefore, the captain took good care of Sora and spoke to him very gently.

"It's nothing, I just came out to take a look."

After talking with the captain for a while, Kong stood on the other side of the deck, looking at the dark clouds and sea in the distance.
