Chapter 49 (Empty) Ode to the Wind 5

"Executor of the Fools, what else do you want to do by showing up here now?"

Narcida knew the Doctor had been observing, and she believed the prince from the Abyss knew as well. Otherwise, he wouldn't have left in such a hurry before even exchanging a few words with his sister.

"Damn it, what's this guy doing here?"

Paimon was angry at the newcomer, but she was still a little scared. However, little Paimon, standing next to the Traveler, was quite confident, clinging tightly to Luminous's clothes. Luminous had a bad feeling when she saw the Doctor, but she just narrowed her eyes and said nothing; she knew this wasn't the time for her to speak.

After a strange noise, Luminous felt very sleepy. In her last moments, she looked at Narcida's worried face and finally collapsed to the ground, falling into a deep sleep. Narcida checked on Luminous and Paimon, then turned her gaze to the Doctor.

"It's quite surprising that the prince of the abyss cares so much about our sixth seat."

Seeing the Doctor's upturned lips, Narcida was a little angry. During the battle, she had accidentally read the Minions' mind and learned many things, including matters concerning the Void, which was why Narcida wanted to keep the Minions alive. At the same time, she had also, of course, witnessed the Doctor's actions.

"You've done so many experiments on skirmishers, how could there be things you don't know? Enough with this useless talk, just state your purpose."

The doctor chuckled softly, "After waiting here for so long, I've finally found a chance to be alone with you. Wasting all that precious time has been somewhat worthwhile."

Nasita's eyes sharpened, and the two began to communicate and negotiate.

……

After the negotiations, Nasita reflected on every detail of the exchange. He was a meticulously crafted, insane man. He probably knew his own capabilities, revealing not a single flaw throughout, and Nasita herself hadn't been able to read his mind. Even when it came to destroying fragments of herself from different periods, he showed not a shred of pity. This was an arrogant fellow who didn't even have empathy for himself.

When the stragglers awoke, they found themselves in a room. Their wounds had mostly healed, and the broken pieces had been patched up with other materials. The room wasn't luxurious, but it was comfortably pleasing to the eye. With nowhere else to go, the stragglers closed their eyes, awaiting judgment. Now devoid of divine will, in the moment of shattered desire, they didn't know what to think.

Sanbing thought of Kong, unsure if he still had feelings for him. He wanted to see Kong, yet he didn't want to. Sanbing's emotions were always in turmoil when his former lover was involved.

Before the stragglers could stand there in a daze for long, Naxida returned.

"You're awake, how do you feel?"

As soon as Nasita entered the room, she found that the stragglers were already awake. Perhaps because they had finally gained their freedom after a long period of imprisonment, Nasita's tone was cheerful, like that of an innocent child.

"I repaired your back and neck. Is there anything that's uncomfortable? We can make some further adjustments."

Listening to Nasita's words, the soldier was somewhat puzzled as to why she was being so kind to him, but he still instinctively said, "No need. Why should the God of Wisdom be so meticulous with a prisoner like me? If you want revenge, just do it directly. There's no need for this hypocritical pretense."

"If you're tired, take a rest. You can become my collaborator, and it doesn't matter how long you stay here."

The soldier was very wary, and Narcida had no intention of reading his mind. The gentle goddess simply extended her small hand and gently stroked the doll's forehead. The gentle touch, like a breeze, gave the soldier a strange feeling. It wasn't unpleasant, but the soldier still reached out and opened that small hand.

The soldier refused Nasita's kindness and refused to say anything more. He closed his eyes and remained silent.

Nasita wasn't angry; she just smiled gently.

Over the next few days, Nasita would always bring him something. Most of the time it was food, but occasionally there would be some unusual items. For example, some strange papers submitted by sages. When commenting on these papers, Nasita would ask the soldiers for their opinions, and of course, she would only receive a "boring" response.

"I am a doll, I don't need to eat, so even if you put drugs in my food, it won't work on me."

The stragglers initially answered with malice. But looking into Nasita's smiling eyes, he began to shy away. Nasita's kindness was like a soft, warm cloth, gently wiping away the dampness and resentment from this defeated man. The pure kindness from the gods made this wounded puppet retreat. Yet he couldn't refuse, and it was too difficult to refuse.

The soldier's attitude towards Nasita softened a bit, and he started eating the food she had brought. He didn't seem to like the taste of anything sweet and cloying. Nasita, however, ate the food herself. So, on some warm, sunny afternoons, the two figures sat together, slowly eating. They didn't talk much, nor did they exchange greetings. But the atmosphere was unexpectedly warm and cozy.

When the soldier's wounds had almost healed, Nasita no longer kept him confined. She gave him considerable freedom, allowing him to go out as he pleased. The soldier was surprised but didn't say much. It was as if the god and the puppet had made a magical pact without prior agreement, each strangely trusting the other.

When Ying spotted the stragglers moving around in the Sumeru Temple, a mixture of panic and curiosity washed over her. She quickly caught up with the boisterous Paimon. The stragglers turned and glanced at her before leading the two into the Pure Goodness Palace.

The stragglers turned their heads away, not wanting to see that face that was just like the one in the sky: "Hmph, they really came."

Ying didn't intend to make things difficult for Sanbing; she was also curious about his relationship with her brother. She now understood why Sanbing had been so hostile towards her the first time they met—it was clearly because of her foolish brother. Seeing that Sanbing was unwilling to communicate with her, Ying looked at Nasita with pleading eyes.

Nasita watched the interaction between the two, a smile flashing in her eyes, and then she began to speak.

"Let me explain. After becoming a demigod, the skirmisher can connect to the World Tree, and he will go inside the World Tree to do some investigation tasks for me."

"Besides, the previous battle depleted most of the skirmishers' strength, and they no longer pose a threat to us. You don't need to worry."

Ying touched her nose, somewhat embarrassed. "It's not that I'm worried about that. This isn't my brother from before..."

"Mind your own business!"

The stragglers turned around angrily and yelled at Ying. Paimon shrank back behind Ying, looking rather timid. Ying didn't say anything, but thought to herself, "This guy still seems to care about his brother."

After speaking, the soldier strode forward. Nasita gave Ying a few simple instructions, and then Ying followed the soldier into the World Tree.
