Chapter 20 (Zhimiao) The Golden Rose from the Desert 1
The secret marriage has been a long-standing, private affair.
Daily life of an old married couple
It was just an ordinary morning; the wind blew through the window screen and curtains, bringing a gentle caress.
After regaining consciousness, Elhesen glanced at Kavi, who was still drowsy and asleep, but didn't wake him. He simply gently pushed Kavi, who was curled up in his arms, away, being careful not to wake him, before getting up and leaving.
He went to the kitchen to prepare a simple breakfast for someone who was still sleeping. Kavi had gone to bed too late last night, and he didn't intend to wake him now. Once everything was ready, Al-Hysen made himself a cup of coffee and then sat at the table, bathed in the morning light, leisurely reading a book.
A clock hangs on the wall above the living room sofa. Kavi had spotted it in an old shop. It was said to be made using the craftsmanship of Zhidong, and it was very expensive. Kavi spent the whole morning haggling with Elhesen before Elhesen finally agreed to accompany Kavi to buy the clock.
It must be said that this clock is indeed quite exquisite. The wood grain is inherently fresh and refined, and the intricate patterns engraved on the clock frame add a touch of elegance.
Time passed second by second, and the clock dutifully chimed softly. Tick-tock, tick-tock... Al-Hysen listened to the clock and estimated the time.
"It's probably time to wake him up," Elhesen thought to himself.
Al-Hysen closed the book in his hand and downed his coffee in one gulp. Then he got up and went to his bedroom.
The wind gently swayed the curtains. The person on the bed had their eyes closed, their golden hair scattered messily on the pillow—beautiful, like a golden doll. Only a hint of sorrow lingered in their eyes, as if they had just had a nightmare.
Al-Hysen frowned, then slowly sat down on the edge of the bed and woke the person in bed.
"Kavi, wake up, it's time to get up."
The person on the bed slowly opened his eyes as Elhesen called out to him; clearly, he had had a bad dream.
Somewhat dazed, Kavi slowly sat up, his red eyes filled with the confusion of just waking up. The mist in his eyes quickly condensed, then turned into tears, slowly streaming down his face.
Al-Hysen wiped away the tear. His tone was quite gentle as he asked, "What's wrong, Kavi? Did you dream about something?"
"Dreams are mostly caused by the excitement of a part of the brain cells, and they are not real things... What I mean is, you don't need to take them seriously."
After Kavi regained consciousness, he glared at Elhesen upon hearing his words. Then Elhesen promptly changed his tune.
Kavi calmed himself down; the dream he had just woken up still evoked strong emotions in him. He rested his forehead on Elhesen's shoulder, and Elhesen stroked his hair to soothe him. The soft, blond hair was fluffy and felt very comfortable to touch.
"I...I can't remember what I dreamed about. I just think I saw a rose wither...the petals falling one by one..."
"Hmm, that's a flower I've been carefully nurturing for a long time. I watched it grow little by little from tiny leaves to beautiful roses. I don't know why I planted flowers in the desert, but even in the desert, it bloomed beautifully..."
Kavi rambled on, his tone shifting from initial confusion to growing certainty. Elhesen listened intently, having no doubts no matter how disorganized Kavi's words were; after all, dreams are illogical.
Kavi looked somewhat sad, perhaps because he had truly taken good care of that rose in his dream, and its withering had indeed brought him a lot of regret.
After talking for a while, Kavi's voice was a little hoarse. Elhesen took a glass of water from the bedside table and handed it to Kavi, gesturing for him to drink some to soothe his throat.
Kavi obediently took the water glass and drank a few sips. Talking about it had improved Kavi's mood considerably. Elhesen pulled him into his arms and patted his back. The silent companionship made Kavi feel much better.
The early morning mood came and went quickly. After a while, Kavi patted Elhesen's arm, signaling him to let go. Then, like a kitten, he stretched lazily, revealing a smooth, slender waist, fair and beautiful. He went to the bathroom to wash up and get ready.
Sitting at the dining table, Kavi was slowly eating his sandwich. His morning dream seemed like a closed chapter; although it still made him a little sad, he no longer felt the same sorrow he had felt upon waking.
Elheisen stood behind Kavi, his fingers running through Kavi's golden hair. He let down the smooth sections and then clipped the unruly strands with red clips. He had always loved Kavi's hair—its dazzling color and silky smooth texture. Although Elheisen rarely said it aloud, he loved everything about Kavi.
Kavi, this architect with a pursuit of aesthetics, not only has high standards for the designs he creates, but he also takes meticulous care of his own hair. Every time I see Kavi using different products to care for his hair, it reminds me of a little bird preening its feathers, round and adorable.
When he finished clipping the last hair clip, Al-Hysen patted Kavi on the shoulder, and they all knew that this was to tell Kavi that his hair was done.
After spending so much time together, the two developed a great deal of tacit understanding in their lives, often understanding each other with just a single gesture. They were used to each other's presence, like a large tree in summer, where flowers and leaves always grow together.
After everything was ready, Kavi prepared to leave. Before leaving, he gave Elhesen a sweet kiss, and then took Mehrak to the construction site, where he would be supervising the recent progress of the project.
As a renowned architect in Sumeru, Kavi's talent is undeniable, but what shines even brighter is his seriousness and meticulousness in his work. Perhaps you'll overhear his colleagues' comments about him in a tavern.
"Oh, which famous architect is he? It would be great to work with him, but you can't be careless. He's usually very easy to get along with."
After seeing Kavi off, Elhesen also packed his things and went out. As a clerk, he was mostly free, but not particularly free either.
After a brief period of busy work, Alhesen finished his daily tasks and began to have some free time. Glancing at the completed documents beside him, he suddenly thought of Kavi from that morning. Realizing he had nothing else to do, Alhesen got up and left the office.
The weather was perfect, the sun was warm, and the greenery along the street was lush. As Elhesen walked down the street, he thought, perhaps I should plant a flower at home.
Yes, it's the kind of flower that someone dreamed about in the morning.
