"Phew... We're safe for now."

Lin Luo carefully checked the activity within a five-kilometer radius using panoramic monitoring. Apart from a few Martian lizards burrowing into holes, there was no trace of the terrifying school of fish.

The terrain here is high and the rocks are hard, making it unsuitable for the amphibian monster to climb.

Once the tension is released, a wave of exhaustion and hunger washes over you instantly.

Chen Shuang and Zhang Min exchanged a glance, their shock barely concealed. But hunger overcame reason, and the group quickly sat down and began a whirlwind of eating.

Spicy stir-fried rice cakes are soft, chewy, and bouncy; fried chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside; and hamburgers are substantial and filling.

Everyone ate heartily, their mouths glistening with oil, their faces beaming with happiness.

"It's so delicious... Waaah, I've never eaten such delicious rice cakes in my life."

As Zhang Min chewed, she mumbled indistinctly, the deep-seated exhaustion and fear brought on by the life-or-death race earlier actually vanishing under the comfort of the food.

"Warning: High concentration of acidic corrosive toxic fumes detected. Air toxicity index off the charts. Contact with living organisms within ten seconds will cause irreversible respiratory burns and skin ulcers," the cold, mechanical voice of the vehicle's computer announced.

“This fog… is highly poisonous.” Natasha’s face was pale. “If this were an ordinary shelter, this acidic fog would probably have already seeped into the ventilation system.”

"Don't worry, this car is airtight to interstellar standards." Lin Luo knocked on the window. "As long as you don't open the door, it's an absolutely safe oxygen chamber."

Looking out the window at the thick, impenetrable toxic fog, everyone felt a chill of fear. If they had been camping, or if their vehicle had broken down, they would have been reduced to a pool of blood by now.

"What is that?" Chen Shuang exclaimed.

"The radar is reacting! Living things... a lot of living things!" Yu Na, who was in charge of monitoring, said in a trembling voice.

In the mist, dark figures slowly emerged.

They are not very big; in fact, they are rather small.

When a dark shadow pressed against the bulletproof glass, everyone finally saw its true form.

It was an extremely distorted face, resembling a monkey but without hair. Its skin was a dark red keratin layer, and it had a mouthful of jagged fangs. Its eyes had no pupils, only the whites, which emitted a faint green light.

“A demon…this is a Martian demon!” Natasha’s voice was filled with unprecedented fear. “I’ve heard from veterans that these things only appear deep in the Dead Zone. They are more terrifying than zombies and mutated beasts. They are intelligent!”

Immediately afterwards, countless green eyes lit up in the mist.

Hundreds and thousands of them surrounded the amphibious assault vehicle.

“This place is far more terrifying than we imagined.” Natasha gripped her gun tightly. “Those fish in front of us were just wild beasts, but these things… are hunters.”
