One person: I, Daoist Master, am a cultivator of immortality!
Chapter 22 Rescue, Ghost Encirclement
Moreover, in the very fifteen minutes he spent deducing the Summoning Order, he had already decided which deity he would choose as his primary target for cultivating the Summoning Order.
The ideal target for cultivating this Divine Summoning Order cannot be too high-ranking, otherwise he certainly wouldn't be able to summon one in his current state. However, the rank cannot be too low either, otherwise using a low-ranking target as the primary objective would be counterproductive.
Therefore, among the many deities in Taoism, there is only one whose rank is both strong and not too high: Qingyuan Miaodao Zhenjun, Yang Jian.
However, summoning Yang Jian requires a means of communication, ideally through gathering the power of faith associated with him. Sun Yao immediately thought of Lu You's "Song of the Divine Lord": "I dreamt of the Divine Lord descending from heaven, his majestic presence beyond description. He drives a dragon-drawn chariot without horses, his presence before and behind him filled with spirits and deities."
But this is far from enough; these four lines of poetry alone are insufficient to attract the faith of the Pure Source Wonderful Way True Lord throughout the world. However, there are more than just these four lines of poetry that can specifically describe the Second Gentleman Erlang. Isn't there a most suitable way right in front of us? In Journey to the West, the old master Wu Cheng'en once wrote a verse of praise for the Second Gentleman Erlang, and using this verse to describe the Second Gentleman Erlang is perfectly appropriate.
With refined and dignified features, his ears reached his shoulders and his eyes shone brightly. He wore a hat adorned with three phoenixes and three mountains, and a pale yellow robe. Gold-embroidered boots complemented his dragon-patterned stockings, and his jade belt was adorned with eight auspicious symbols. A crescent-shaped slingshot hung at his waist, and he held a three-pointed, double-edged spear. He had once cleaved Peach Mountain with an axe to save his mother, and shot down two phoenixes with a slingshot. His fame spread far and wide for his slaying of eight monsters, and he formed a sworn brotherhood with the Seven Sages of Meishan. With a proud heart, he refused to acknowledge any celestial kinship, and his arrogant nature led him to reside as a deity in Guanjiang. He was a holy and virtuous spirit of Chicheng Zhaohui, whose boundless manifestations were known as Erlang.
Since we're going to use talismans as a guide, why not just combine the two together?
Thinking it over, Sun Yao roughly sorted it out and felt that Lu You's four lines of poetry were more appropriate to be placed before Wu Cheng'en's eulogy.
Placing the lines "I dreamt of a divine ruler descending from the heavens, his majestic bearing beyond description. He drives a dragon chariot without horses, and all before and behind him are spirits and deities," before "His appearance is refined and dignified, his ears reach his shoulders, and his eyes shine," in front of "His countenance is refined and handsome, his ears droop to his shoulders, and his eyes gleam," makes it seem like a hymn of praise. Before Sun Xingyao even had a chance to test this summoning command, his master's people had already arrived.
The newcomer was a middle-aged man who, though not wealthy, possessed an air of nobility. Guided by his servant, he swiftly ran towards the stage.
"Master, please save my son! I was hoping he would come back as soon as possible to attend the funeral and then return to his studies. But I never expected that this brat would disturb the ghost opera. He's been studying Western things all day and has gone crazy, causing such a ruckus at the ghost opera."
The wealthy man was quite reasonable; he rushed over and bowed to Sun Yao. Sun Yao quickly helped him up, and seeing that he didn't complain about the opera troupe, he seemed to be a reasonable person.
"Don't worry, sir, this matter isn't difficult. The reason I had my servants bring you here is to use your blood to rekindle his yang fire. To reignite the two yang fires on his shoulders, we need the blood of a close relative as a catalyst."
"Tell me what you need me to do, Taoist priest. I will do anything to save this brat."
"Don't worry, it's just taking some of your blood, it won't hurt you. You just need to prick your finger and drip two drops of blood onto his forehead."
As soon as Sun Yao finished speaking, the wealthy man ran to his son's side, cut his finger with a knife, and dripped several drops of blood onto his forehead.
"Does the Taoist priest have any other instructions?" After finishing the dripping, he asked Sun Yao.
Sun Yao was also taken aback; he had never seen anyone act so quickly. But since they trusted him, that was a good thing; at least he wouldn't encounter any obstacles in his work.
"It's alright, but don't panic if you see anything later. I won't do anything to harm him." Sun Yao gave the wealthy man a heads-up in advance, so that he wouldn't be affected when he lit the yang fire for him later.
"Please proceed with your actions, Daoist Master!"
Having received his assurance, Sun Yao approached the young master. He placed his hands on the young master's forehead, and then golden flames suddenly erupted from his hands. These flames ignited the blood between his brows, and finally, the blood melted into the golden flames, which then enveloped his entire body.
The servant panicked upon seeing the situation and rushed forward with his fist raised. However, he was stopped by his master, who seemed to be a discerning man and remained unmoved despite witnessing Sun Yao's move.
Sun Yao was pleased with this outcome. About the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, the boy, enveloped in his golden flames, suddenly opened his eyes and jumped up from the stage.
"A ghost! There really is a ghost!"
After the kid jumped up, he started yelling and screaming, "Ghosts! Ghosts!" He'd stirred up a ghost show, so how could there not be ghosts? It was already a miracle that the ghosts hadn't torn him apart. But letting him yell and jump around like that wasn't going to work, so Sun Yao chopped him on the neck with a chop, knocking him unconscious.
Letting him continue yelling like that would have unpredictable consequences. Regardless of the panic it might cause, it wouldn't be good for him either. After knocking him unconscious, Sun Yao reached out and placed him on the stage. Seeing this, the master and his servants immediately climbed onto the stage as well.
"Alright, I've healed him. All three Yang Flames on his body have been ignited. Although I knocked him unconscious, his life is not in danger. Once he wakes up, he'll be able to calm down. However, this kid has ultimately ruined this ghost show, and all the wandering ghosts in the audience will surely come and cause trouble."
As soon as Sun Yao finished speaking, he felt a cool breeze blowing from all directions. It seemed that these wandering ghosts couldn't wait for them to leave before coming back to cause trouble. Upon feeling this cool breeze, the two celestial masters who had been sitting cross-legged to meditate opened their eyes.
Seeing their master open his eyes, Zhang Zhiwei and Zheng Zibu also stood up and looked around. These wild ghosts did not take human form, so they were basically undetectable to people other than shamans, but they could see the presence of Qi.
As for Sun Yao, the reason he was able to see the existence of these wandering ghosts was thanks to his cultivation of the Qi Refining Technique, which allowed him to see them with his spiritual sense.
"This is practically a parade of a hundred ghosts! Where did all these wandering spirits come from? It's like a whole ghost show has been pulled here!"
This was the first time Sun Yao had ever seen so many ghosts. Let alone ghosts, he'd never seen so many people converging on him except during school exercises and sports meets. Now, instead of experiencing the treatment of a human gathering, he was experiencing the treatment of ghosts gathering. Actually, he was a little creeped out. Even if it were a hundred or so people with ill intentions gathering around him, he'd still feel uneasy.
