Reborn in the 1970s, Zhang Sanniu's new life

Chapter 34 Farewell to the Past

When San Niu and Zhang Laosan returned home, Wang Cuihua was terribly worried when she saw that San Niu was drunk!

Quickly carry San Niu to bed, feed her some tea, and let her lie down and sleep!

Wang Cuihua closed the door and turned to scold Zhang Laosan, "You're such an unreliable father! How could you let your daughter drink! How uncomfortable must she be!" Wang Cuihua said.

"Oh dear, I wanted to stop her, but who knew that San Niu would pour all the wine into her mouth at once? She didn't drink much, just two sips. San Niu is young and has never drunk alcohol before, so she got drunk after just a little bit," Zhang Laosan said.

"Well, shall we still go to Beijing tomorrow?" Wang Cuihua asked.

"Go ahead, isn't everything ready? Oh, remember we need to get up early tomorrow, eat breakfast, and then set off. Oh, and tomorrow, put the bag with the money in my car, don't get it mixed up," Zhang Laosan instructed.

"Okay, let's cook breakfast early! We can eat when San Niu wakes up," Wang Cuihua said.

“Alright, let’s have noodles tonight! San Niu’s had too much to drink, some noodles will make her feel better,” Zhang Laosan said.

“Okay, I’ll knead the dough, and you help me start the fire,” Wang Cuihua said.

Wang Cuihua and Zhang Laosan were happily cooking!

San Niu fell asleep, but she was dreaming. She dreamt of her past life, of her hot-tempered husband who, after drinking, beat her. At that time, she was already sick and had been lying in bed for several days. Both of her children were at school and living at home. San Niu hadn't told them she was sick and had been in bed for days. Her husband was out drinking and gambling and hadn't come home for several days. Tonight, he came home and started acting crazy, dragging San Niu off the bed and beating her severely. Then he collapsed onto the bed and fell fast asleep!

San Niu wasn't beaten for the first two years after marrying him, but later, whenever he got drunk or lost money gambling outside, he would beat her to vent his anger. San Niu endured it all these years for the sake of the children, but now that she's thinking about herself and is going to die anyway, she doesn't want to endure it anymore!

San Niu endured the pain, slowly got up, found a rope, tied her sleeping husband's hands and feet together, gagged him with his smelly socks, and then took a knife and chopped off his right hand!

Her husband woke up suddenly in pain, sweating profusely, writhing in bed. San Niu, holding a knife, looked at him and laughed, "Let's see how you gamble and play cards again. I'm telling you, if you dare to go out drinking and playing cards again, I'll chop off your remaining hand and both feet, so you'll crawl around like a dog from now on!"

Her husband was so frightened by San Niu's fierce gaze and words that he trembled and kept shaking his head, indicating that he dared not do it again!

Looking at him now, San Niu felt that she had been too cowardly before. She should have taken action and taught him a lesson a long time ago. She was so late!

San Niu was afraid he would bleed to death, after all, he still had two children! So she found a piece of cloth and took the remaining half bottle of wine, sat on the bed, and bandaged his wounds while saying, "I'm going to die soon. From now on, you should work hard to earn money, raise the two children, and live a life where someone can support you. That way, I can die in peace. Do you hear me?"

San Niu's husband nodded quickly. Seeing that he had nodded, San Niu untied the ropes from his hands and feet. "Starting tomorrow, you'll stay home, feed the pigs, and farm. If you don't obey, watch out for the knife in my hand," San Niu said.

"Her husband was really terrified by San Niu. Standing by the bed, he said, 'I promise, from now on, I will listen to you, work hard, and never go out to drink or gamble again!'"

San Niu glanced at him, put the knife in her hand under her pillow, lay down on the bed and went to sleep!

Her husband, terrified, clutched his injured hand and went to sleep in his son's bed! The next day, before dawn, he got up to cook, feed the pigs, and bring food to Sanniu's bedside. After Sanniu finished eating, he took the bowl and went out to work in the fields. From then until Sanniu's death, her husband was very obedient, cooking, washing clothes, and working in the fields every day. He would also bring every meal to Sanniu's bedside. Sanniu was quite happy when she died; he had changed for the better, and her two children could rest in peace!

Wang Cuihua finished cooking and came in to call San Niu to eat, "San Niu, San Niu, get up and eat!"

San Niu opened her eyes groggily and saw Wang Cuihua, realizing that she had been dreaming. This was the first time in so many years that she had dreamed of her husband. It was time to let go of her obsession, say goodbye to the past, and start a new life!

Wang Cuihua looked at San Niu and saw that she had woken up. "Daughter, are you still feeling unwell? I made some shredded pork noodles. Get up and eat some, then go back to sleep," Wang Cuihua said.

"Mother, I'm fine. I'll get up now," San Niu said.

San Niu got up and ate a bowl of hot noodles with her family, which made her feel much better!

"San Niu, why don't you rest for a day? We can stay a day later," Zhang Laosan said.

"Dad, I'm fine now. Let's leave tomorrow. Everything is packed. There are a lot of us, and we'll drive three cars. It'll be safer with more people. Oh, Dad, wait a minute, could you put some sticks in the car? That way, if we encounter anyone blocking the road, we'll be able to handle them," San Niu said.

"San Niu, are you worried about safety on the road?" Zhang Laosan asked.

“Father, the journey is long, and who knows what might happen? So we’re just bringing it along as a precaution in case anything goes wrong. It can’t hurt to have it with us, Father, you don’t need to worry. Maybe I’m just overthinking it!” San Niu said.

“You’re right, we need to be prepared. I’ll go now and get some more sticks, oh, and two iron rods too. Take them all with me,” Zhang Laosan said as he went out.

San Niu thought for a moment, then went to the kitchen, took two rolling pins, and put them in the driver's seat of the car!

It's a journey of seven or eight thousand miles, which will take several days of driving, so it's always better to be careful!

The next day, early in the morning, Wang Dayong and his wife, along with Zhang Xiaojun and Zhang Dajun, all arrived!

Zhang Laosan took a few more sticks and placed them on the ground. Sanniu said to them, "If you encounter any robbers on the road, just keep driving forward. If someone blocks the road and you can't drive anymore, take the sticks and hit them hard to break them off. Don't be afraid. If you're scared and hesitate, our car, our money, and even our lives will be ruined!"

"Is it really that serious?" Zhang Xiaojun asked nervously!

“Yes, it’s that serious, it could even be fatal. So, if you encounter any of us on the road, don’t be afraid. My dad and I can drive, we’ll be in front. Just follow us,” San Niu said.

“Oh, okay,” Wang Dayong said.

San Niu looked at everyone, seemingly frightened, and said, "Don't be afraid. If we really encounter a robbery, we'll beat them up, drive off, and they won't be able to find us. So just keep hitting yourselves, it'll be fine. Okay, let's go!"
