Chapter 58 Golden Wind and Jade Dew 1 Encounter
It wasn't until Mark lay back down in his seat and closed his eyes to rest that she snapped out of her daze and realized that she should properly thank this brave uncle.
During the remainder of the flight, Mark slept soundly, his breathing even and steady.
Wang Xiaomi, however, was no longer sleepy, and she would occasionally glance at Mark out of the corner of her eye.
Her gaze first fell on Mark's strong arms, the muscles clearly defined and exuding power.
Then, she looked at the man's exposed wrist and saw that it was already a little red and swollen, with the surrounding skin slightly red, and she could even see faint finger marks on the man's wrist.
Wang Xiaomi couldn't help but marvel at the sheer power in his eyes. It was easy to imagine how much force Mark had hidden in that seemingly casual grab.
After the plane landed, everyone disembarked.
Mark arrived at a hotel he had booked six months in advance. It was a luxury hotel, and he had booked a deluxe double room.
As soon as Mark entered the hotel lobby, he saw Wang Xiaomi follow him in. Mark then went to the front desk and asked the staff to change rooms.
The receptionist looked troubled and shook his head repeatedly, explaining that the hotel had a rule that reserved rooms could not be changed at will.
Mark was talking to the flight attendant when Wang Xiaomi noticed that the uncle who had helped her on the plane was in trouble, so she quickly walked over and asked what had happened.
When she heard that she wouldn't have to pay the difference in price if she switched rooms, she raised her right hand without hesitation and said in a clear voice, "Uncle, let's switch rooms. I've already booked a room here."
And so, the two of them successfully switched rooms.
Wang Xiaomi opened the door and was greeted by a luxurious double room with a sea view, decorated with flower petals.
The room was filled with a faint floral fragrance, and the large floor-to-ceiling windows faced the sea, with waves crashing in one after another, creating a breathtaking view.
Facing the sea, Wang Xiaomi felt overjoyed, as if her heart was bursting with happiness.
After Mark successfully moved to Wang Xiaomi's room, he tidied up a bit and changed into loose and comfortable beachwear.
He strolled out of the hotel, rented a beach chair from a nearby shop, found a spot he liked, set up the chair, and lay down.
The warm sunlight, like a soft golden veil, bathed him in its warmth. He stretched out his body, enjoying this rare moment of tranquility, and his tense nerves gradually relaxed.
Just as he was immersed in this comfortable atmosphere, suddenly, a "creaking" sound came from beside him, accompanied by the sound of heavy objects rubbing against the sand, as if someone was struggling to move something.
Startled by the sound, Mark slowly opened his eyes and saw Wang Xiaomi, her face flushed, struggling to carry a beach chair.
The bench looked particularly bulky on the beach. Wang Xiaomi gripped the edge of the bench tightly with both hands, trying her best to drag it, and unconsciously making "ya ya" noises, which was both cute and a little funny.
Upon seeing this, Mark quickly stood up from his chair and strode forward.
He easily bent down and lifted the heavy bench with one hand.
Hearing the noise, Wang Xiaomi looked up and immediately saw Mark. A surprised smile instantly appeared on her face, her eyes sparkling. She said, "Uncle, it's you! What a coincidence!"
Mark couldn't help but laugh, his smile appearing especially warm in the sunlight: "Isn't it amazing? It's such a coincidence. I saw you on the plane, then I met you at the hotel, and now I see you on the beach. You know, our wonderful experiences could be written into a funny story."
Upon hearing Mark's words, Wang Xiaomi couldn't help but giggle, her laughter as clear and crisp as a silver bell, echoing across the beach.
Mark smiled and placed Wang Xiaomi's beach chair steadily next to his own. He then carefully adjusted the chair and made sure it was stable before saying to Wang Xiaomi, "Come on, lie down and try it out, see if it's comfortable."
Wang Xiaomi was overjoyed and immediately lay down on the beach chair. Like a child, she gently rocked back and forth on the chair. Once she felt everything was alright, she said to Mark with admiration, "Uncle, you're so strong!"
Mark, however, said nonchalantly, "Hey, it's just a bench, it's really not that heavy."
Wang Xiaomi sat up and said seriously, "Uncle, that's not what I meant. I meant that on the plane, if you hadn't helped me catch that bad guy who was going to hit me, I wouldn't know what to do."
Later, while you were sleeping, I secretly glanced at that man's wrist; it was all red and swollen. You're really something!
Mark listened and said somewhat embarrassedly, "Really? Then it's probably because I used too much force. I was just trying to get that guy to sit down quickly and not cause trouble, so I probably didn't control my strength well."
Wang Xiaomi chuckled, her eyes sparkling: "Uncle, look! You protected me on the plane, helped me move a chair on the beach, and even switched to such a beautiful room with me at the hotel. You're so good to me, I'll treat you to dinner later."
Mark lowered his head and thought for a moment, then waved his hand and said, "Oh, these are nothing, just a small favor. I can't let you spend any money on them."
Upon hearing this, Wang Xiaomi immediately became anxious, sat up straight, and said, "How can it not be? Uncle, what you may consider a trivial matter is a life-saving favor to me. I really don't know what would have happened to me without you."
Mark kept waving his hands and said, "It's not that serious, it's really not that bad, don't worry about it."
Upon hearing this, Wang Xiaomi objected, frowning and feigning anger, saying, "Hey, uncle, why are you being so indecisive, a man from Beijing? I've made up my mind, tonight's dinner is on me!"
Mark actually admired Wang Xiaomi's somewhat chuunibyou (adolescent delusions of grandeur) personality. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Alright, since you insist, I won't stand on ceremony and let you spend money this time. But, can I ask you something? Don't call me 'uncle' anymore, I'm only 40 years old this year."
Wang Xiaomi frowned, tilted her head and thought for a while, then her eyes lit up and she said, "Okay, then I won't call you Uncle anymore, I'll call you Second Uncle."
After saying that, he couldn't help but burst into laughter, the sound of which was particularly hearty on the beach.
As night falls and the city lights come on, the hotel restaurant is bathed in soft, warm light.
The two sat down at the table, which was laden with a sumptuous spread. The tender and juicy steaks exuded an enticing aroma, the lobsters' bright red shells gleamed, and the grouper and king crabs were particularly eye-catching.
Looking at the lavish dishes on the table, Wang Xiaomi broke out in a cold sweat, inwardly groaning, "How much money did this cost?!"
Mark noticed her expression and couldn't help but laugh, "Don't worry, I have coupons. This whole table will cost less than 200 yuan."
Wang Xiaomi looked at him with suspicion, not believing that something could be so cheap.
Seeing this, Mark casually stopped a passing waiter and said, "Could you please calculate the bill for this table?"
Upon hearing this, Wang Xiaomi hurriedly took out her bank card, gritted her teeth, and said, "I'll pay, I'll pay. We agreed that it was my treat."
The waiter had already received a tip from Mark and knew perfectly well why he would accept Wang Xiaomi's bank card.
She smiled at Wang Xiaomi and said, "Miss, this gentleman previously booked a deluxe double meal at the hotel, which costs only 199 yuan for two people. However, this offer is only valid for payment made with his own bank card."
Wang Xiaomi asked unwillingly, "What if I use my bank card?"
The waiter carefully examined the dishes on the table and said, "Miss, if we use your card, this meal would probably cost around 3000 to 4000 yuan."
Upon hearing the huge price difference, Wang Xiaomi immediately pointed to Mark across the table and loudly declared, "Use Uncle's card."
Mark, seeing Wang Xiaomi's expression, couldn't help but burst into laughter. This slightly immature girl is quite clever; she's unwilling to suffer any loss.
After the waiter left, Wang Xiaomi looked a little embarrassed. She lowered her head slightly and said shyly to Mark, "Second Uncle, we agreed that I would treat you, but now it's your turn. That's not good. How about this, I'll treat you tomorrow. I can't let you spend money this time."
Looking at Wang Xiaomi's cute yet earnest expression, Mark smiled and said, "Oh, you clever little girl, I'm already very satisfied that you're willing to have a meal with this old man. I don't care who pays."
Upon hearing the words "old man," Wang Xiaomi immediately pouted and said with dissatisfaction, "What old man? Second Uncle, you're not old at all."
You said you're only 40, but if I didn't know your background, you'd look like you're in your early 30s.
Mark subconsciously touched his temples, where a few strands of gray hair were faintly visible. He smiled wryly and said, "Look, my hair is all white. Aren't I an old man?"
Wang Xiaomi shook her head vigorously and waved her hand, saying, "Second Uncle, there are so many people with white hair on the streets these days. Like young people our age, many of them like to dye their hair completely white, it's so cool."
My ex-boyfriend used to love dyeing his hair all sorts of weird and unusual colors. Seriously, Uncle, you don't look old at all. Stop acting like an old man!
Mark felt a warmth in his heart as he looked at Wang Xiaomi's earnest expression. He pointed to the delicious-looking seafood on the table and said with a smile, "Alright, stop talking. These dishes will get cold if we don't eat them soon. Let's eat quickly."
Wang Xiaomi was like a gluttonous child, tightly gripping a plump lobster in one hand and stuffing it into her mouth without any restraint, her cheeks bulging out.
With her other hand holding a wine glass, she tilted her head back and gulped down the red wine, looking as bold and unrestrained as a female knight-errant.
Even so, she didn't forget her curiosity. The fire of gossip burned in her eyes. She looked at Mark and asked indistinctly, "Second Uncle, I've noticed something. From my room to this meal we're having now, everything is for two people. But why are you alone?"
Upon hearing this, Mark gave a helpless and bitter smile, sighed softly, and said, "Isn't that simple? I got a divorce."
Then, Mark embellished his experience and told Wang Xiaomi about it.
He recounted his past with his wife, those beautiful memories shattered by Tianye's departure. He described how Tianye, for his own benefit, disregarded his family and children, and did a series of chilling things.
As Wang Xiaomi listened, she suddenly slammed her hand on the table and stood up, her eyes wide with anger. She exclaimed, "Good heavens, this woman is too ruthless! She's willing to abandon her family for her own selfish desires!"
"Second Uncle, a woman like that doesn't deserve you at all. You made the right decision to leave her. She's not worth your sadness." Her indignant expression made it seem as if she had personally experienced these injustices.
Mark pretended to say a few seemingly fair words in defense of Tianye, which caused quite a stir, as if igniting the anger in Wang Xiaomi's heart, making her even more indignant.
Wang Xiaomi suddenly plopped down next to Mark, casually draping one hand over his shoulder, her face flushed, clearly intoxicated.
Fueled by the alcohol, she began to confide in Mark about her painful and failed relationship with her ex-boyfriend.
Mark, on the other hand, fully demonstrated the charm and ability of a caring older man.
He would sometimes nod to show his understanding, and sometimes interject with a few well-timed words to guide Wang Xiaomi's emotions.
Under his "catalysis," Wang Xiaomi's emotions were like a roller coaster ride. She started by calmly telling her story, then gradually became furious. When she got excited, she even started gesturing wildly. In the end, she broke down in tears, crying uncontrollably.
During this process, Mark also cleverly got Wang Xiaomi to drink several large glasses of red wine.
Seeing that Wang Xiaomi was gradually becoming drowsy, her eyes were starting to glaze over, and she was beginning to ramble on and on, Mark felt that the atmosphere had been set up quite well.
So he slowly leaned forward and began to tell Wang Xiaomi about his unforgettable feelings for Tianye.
He portrayed himself as a man of deep affection, whose heart was still full of fields even after his divorce, making him a model of a good man.
Finally, Wang Xiaomi seemed to be moved by Mark's deep affection, or perhaps the alcohol had completely numbed her senses.
She cupped Mark's face in her hands, staring intently for a full five minutes, as if trying to uncover the secrets of his deep affection in his eyes.
Just then, the long-awaited system notification sound finally rang out.
System notification: Punisher, your special trigger skill, Soul Hook, has been activated. You have consumed 10 points of system energy and have 100 hours of life remaining.
